I am going to set myself a mission.

To try and get to 5000 posts by Big Brother 9.

i am know on my 2013th post! - only 2987 to go!

So not many more to go! - i will post here every few days to check on how many posts i have done, and each week i will give an average of how many posts in a week.

Wish me good luck!

Ben

Don't go posting like a nutter just to reach 5000 though, post count means jack so I really wouldn't worry.

But, good luck all the same.

They encourage nonsense and people with 10000000's sometimes think they are superior than someone with say 10 posts.
Why do you feel the need to be on a mission to have so many posts before BB9 starts?

Benji

I see what you mean, and that is one reason why people arnt chosoen for things such as TIBB: The Apprentice, Etc.

It's okay going for a high post count, but please make sure all your posts are worth while. Pointless posts could get removed. There have been a lot of these on the site lately and it is effecting the quality of the site especially in the Big Brother section.

For example posts like "the housemate X is great" are meaningless and they don't promote good debate. They might as well have not been posted. If you need to say a house mate is great say why and give reasons that way people can answer you back and a discussion can take place. Of course during a discussion short posts will occur but these should be made in such away as move the discussion on.

Also starting "Chat and Games" type threads in "General Chat" to increase post count is looked down on by the Moderators and the Admin team. These threads will be moved and could be deleted.

but red, rnt we allowed to type what we want, its our opinion and what we think. Which is the point of a forum.

:)

Ben

The point of a forum is to have a discussion about opinions.

How can you do that if you faced with 101 posts saying housemate x is great and that is all. It's great to think that housemate x is great but people want to know why so we can talk about it.

Without that information the place might as well close down.

Benji
16-09-2007, 01:18 PM
i know, but you dont have to elaborate on what you say, But i know what you mean.

Good, it wasn't just aimed at you because you started this thread it was really a general observation on a lot of the posts recently. The thing is when you get these short replies all the time some really good threads just die. I'm sure you have noticed that with some of the ones you have started.

Benji
16-09-2007, 01:23 PM
Yeah! I know what you mean.....Roll on 5000!

Matt08

The post count doesn't go up anyway on Chat and Games etc.

Red Moon
16-09-2007, 01:26 PM
No but it does in the Big Brother section and it is them that suffers from a lot of the short posts which not make for a good debate.

Chat and games is just that and you would expect a lot of short quick chat posts there.

Benji
16-09-2007, 01:28 PM
i didnt know that!!!!!!!!!

Red, tell me if the posts don't count only and only in the chat & games section or in some others ? Thanks ! :spin2:

Maybe some sort of new penalty system should be introduced to target rubbish threads and if you get below a certian number then you get punished.

Benji
16-09-2007, 01:32 PM
but how would you disguinish between pointless posts and useful ones? People would be arguing with Mods and saying 'its my opinion, not yours, i can write what i like' it would cause too much Hassle for Mods

I think it would be at the admin and mods descression if they think that the thread is pointless or not.

Benji
16-09-2007, 01:34 PM
But, still they would get loads of hassel from people saying that there posts arnt pants etc.

Red Moon
16-09-2007, 01:42 PM
I can't remember where they count or not now. None of the chat and games section count or it's subsections.

To answer Benji, it shouldn't be needed really every post should be useful in someway and move things forward just like you are doing now. You just have to add a bit of information that moves things on. You are very good at it. You are doing it now.

As for the penalty system there is one and it's called the karma system. How it is meant to work is you give karma for good posts and take it away for poor ones. If it was used correctly then it would encourage good posting. Thing is people use it badly and the system has become pointless. What they do is give karma to there friends and take it away from people that have views they don't agree with. The quality of posts element of the karma system has been lost.

We already do when we close pointless threads... it goes with the job.

The Karma system failed before it started, it was obvious that now the whole idea is lost. It's just a campaign now, people are advertising them at all the time.

Benji
16-09-2007, 01:52 PM
they are - your correct, Maybe the admin should come up with a different method of awarding people.

This could have been a task on The Apprentice.

That is why a lot of people have turned it off now.

In principle it was a great idea but once it was used badly the whole idea was sunk. Some people got massively negative karma and became unhappy with the site. I know some of those people were really upset and felt like leaving.

It would have made a good task.... how to encourage people to make better posts.... that a good idea and I guess a subject we could talk about in this thread to.

U2U me and I will put it in the Admin section to see what the others think.

I have to go. I'll check back here later as see what you all come up with.

Thanks for the good discussion. Well done.

Benji

Maybe we should have a U2U count. - like the post count.

Matt08

Maybe the karma system should only be able to be changed my mods and admins according to good or bad posts. All users would have to have it displayed but other 'normal' members wouldn't be able to change it.

Benji
16-09-2007, 02:05 PM

The karma system just need to be used correctly Benji sent me a good idea which I will mention in the Admin section, known as the TiBB towers, and I know Sticks has come up with some good idea's to in the past. Maybe this is a subject that we need to revisit.

It had been interesting since this subject has been brought up that there has been some improvement in the quality of peoples posts on the site. Especially while we were discussing the subject. Maybe we can all do our bit and when people just say I love housemate X we can ask them why. Lets get people thinking about what they post and get them to think a bit more. It would make the site so much better.

5,000 quality posts are worth so much more than 5,000 rubbish ones.

I think a few aspects of the forum could do with re-visiting. I think that one of the re-visited things should be banned members. Pisshead overstepped the mark, but I think eager posters like Linda should be allowed back on. Maybe perminantly banned members should only be banned for something like 3 months depending on their quality of posts and general attitude towards things before they were banned.

Red Moon
16-09-2007, 10:34 PM
I know what you mean and we have discussed possible changes to the warning system that allow member to have warnings revoked for good behavior, but there is only so much time we have to spare for the site and most of that is spent checking the threads and reading posts. We don't have endless time to rewrite the software the site is based around and make endless modifications. I wish we could sometimes to make life easier for the members, the moderators and the admin team.

I know what you mean about established posters like Linda, but others on 3 warnings who are equally as established have managed to tow the line. People with 3 warnings do get an cetian amount of freedom to break the rules before we act. We tend to warn the in threads or by U2U.

We don't ban people without thought. For example it was over a week before we as a team decided what to do when we banned Linda and Nodis. They was a lot of discussion about it. The same is true of any long standing member we ban. It happened with SMC and other members. In fact in a lot cases someone will try and council these long standing members. This happened with SMC.

I think you have to understand we need some kind of ultimate sanction. Some form final punishment and without it we would lose control. The members that are banned have normally crossed the line once too often or pushed the rules to far.

The loss of any quality poster, even if you don't like their views is a great loss. You need the people you disagree with to make a good debate. But also what you need is a mutual respect and understanding of that person and a feel for the quality of that persons posts.

Well make sure they are all good posts and set an example for others to follow. That is how we started it this debate and it is all I asked for.

Lets make this the best Big Brother fan site on the internet.

Benji
16-09-2007, 11:10 PM
what are you talking about, it IS the bestest Big Brother online.

i think we should try and get the webiste in a newspaper or something.

Red Moon
16-09-2007, 11:24 PM
It has been in the newspapers.

People find us and they stay. I came here from the Channel 4 site during Big Brother 5. I'm so glad I did. I have talked and discussed with wonderful people about a programme I love watching. I have even found the woman I love. The baby is due next month.

It's the quality of the members and their post that make the place. If we keep that up we will be the biggest and most popular BB site in the UK. If we have one aim that is what it is.

With that it is goodnight.

The site was in the newspapers. It was the Daily Mirror's 'site of the day' on May 9th 2007.
