Britney track limps in at No. 85

Things have gone from disastrous to catastrophic for Britney Spears, after hearing news that her new single 'Gimme More' crashed-and-burned in the US Billboard charts.

The track limped in at a lowly number 85 on its debut, after the 25-year-old tarnished the would-be hit with a lacklustre 'live' performance at last weekend's Music Video Awards.

US reports say radio stations across the country are shunning the song, failing to give it airtime.

Unfortunately for the down-and-out star, she's receiving no sympathy from fellow music cronies, particularly from super-star producer, Timbaland.

The composer, who has worked with Britney's ex-Justin Timberlake, attacked the beleaguered songbird saying it's her own fault for rejecting an offer to work with him.

Timbaland said: 'She needs a story'

He continued: 'She has no comeback story. That's the problem. She has to have a team. She needs to come back with Justin doing records; [then we'd see headlines like,] 'She went back to her ex and she's making smashes.'

'But instead she got so big-headed and was like, “Screw you, screw you, I don't need nobody”' the 36-year-old said backstage at the Awards.

He then offered Spears a second chance, adding: 'She should humble herself and make a phone call and say, “I'm sorry.” She knows what she's sorry about.'

'She needs to say, “I was wrong,” and it'll definitely move forward. … That's all she has to say.'

Meanwhile, Britney is busy trying to defuse another feud with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, 29, ahead of their custody hearing in five days time.

She paid a visit to her lawyer's office and reportedly spent four hours with Federline and his legal team.

According to sources, Britney just wants to end the battle and start a new chapter but K-Fed's sources deny he's after her money but say he remains concerned about the welfare of his sons, two-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old, Jayden James.

The song isn't even out yet. It's at 85 based on airplay, which is bloody good.

"Gimme More" is getting ready to hit iTunes, and is expected to do very well. According to The New York Post, "industry experts expect it to climb fast when the digital version comes out Oct. 2." Billboard's Silvio Pietroluongo says the single is expected to debut in the top 20: "I guarantee you, when the song comes out on iTunes, it will probably make it into the top 20. It's also getting more and more radio play. All of her other songs have debuted in the lower half of the chart. Without a digital single, you can't debut much higher than she did." Keep requesting "Gimme More" at your local radio stations. Below are the current statistics according to Billboard for Britney's first single "Gimme More:"

The Billboard Hot 100: #85
Pop 100 Airplay: #25
Top 40 Mainstream: #25
Pop 100: #41
Hot 100 Airplay: #61
Canadian Hot 100: #53

"Britney Spears may have drawn criticism for her seemingly lethargic performance on the MTV Video Music Awards, but her new single, "Gimme More," is racing up the charts at top 40 radio.

The cut posted the most increased plays on R&R's CHR/Top 40 chart for a second straight week (up 976 spins) and climbs 25-20 on the tally, marking Spears' first top 20 appearance since "Every Time" in summer 2004.

Spears last graced the survey with "My Prerogative" in the fall of 2004. Her prior best entrance was the No. 24 launch of "Me Against the Music" in Oct. 2003. "Gimme" is Spears' 16th charting title this decade, tying her with fellow former Mouseketeer Christina Aguilera for most by a female in that span.

On Billboard's Pop 100 Airplay chart, "Gimme More" jumps 25-16. The cut is expected to be released digitally later this month or early next; Spears' new, as-yet-untitled Jive album is due Nov. 13."

On top of that, "Gimme More" has moved up to #20 on Billboard.com. Congrats Britney!

she's crap, timbo is right, he knows his ****....... britney was wrong to think she could turn out any half arsed rubbish after being away from the charts so long.
The only way her records will sell is from the pity that you peeps are showing her.
lets face it she's no xtina aguilera..........Britneys voice has never been her saving grace.
At least Xtina has a great voice to back up her shoddy tunes.

I love the new Britney Spears song, she's definitely picked the right moment and right style of music. The indie phase is kinda falling flat on its face now, personally I'm moving onto electro music, the beat to the song definitely fits into that category. I think Gimme More could quite easily hit the top spot, and I really hope it does!

Plus, Britney is not "fat" like so many people are saying. She was visibly unfit, but she definitely wasn't fat. I didn't think the VMAs performance was that bad either, you could tell she wasn't anywhere near as in shape as she used to be, but it was OK!

I agree Z, but I really hope it gets the top spot. She deserves it, and the song itself is really good. The media over her is so corrupting, I hope it doesn't affect the song in the charts.
