Johnny Cash has died in a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 71.
It is reported he had suffered respiratory failure following complications from diabetes.
Cash was a towering figure in American music spanning country, rock and folk. He was known worldwide as 'The Man in Black'.
Cash's manager, Lou Robin, has confirmed the singer's death, saying he passed away at around 1 am local time (6am BST) at Nashville's Baptist Hospital.
