Britney Spears named 'worst celebrity mum'Britney Spears has been named the World’s Worst Celebrity Mum.

The troubled singer, who is currently caught up in a bitter custody row with ex-husband Kevin Federline over their two sons, won 32 per cent of the votes to beat former Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona into second place.

Number three in the poll by internet research company onepoll.com went to Big Brother racist Jade Goody followed by cocaine-loving Kate Moss. Spice Girl Victoria Beckham came fifth.

In sixth place is glamour model Jordan, who was seen out partying just weeks after giving birth to daughter Princess Tiaamii.

Heather Mills McCartney, who has a daughter, with Beatle legend ex Paul McCartney is at number six while Madonna is at seven.

The Like A Virgin singer was recently visited by the Malawian social services to test her suitability as a parent before allowing her to officially adopt two-year-old David Banda.

Ulrika Jonsson is at number nine followed by Jude Law’s ex-wife Sadie Frost at number ten.

The results of the poll, of 2,000 Brits, couldn’t have come at a worst time for Britney, 25, who following her split from 29-year-old Kevin was spotted partying without any underwear on. She later shaved her head then spent a spell in rehab.

An LA judge is said to be preparing to revoke her temporary custody of the two youngsters after he ex-bodyguard claimed she took drugs.

Her recent attempt at a pop comeback was slammed by critics after she performed her new single Gimme More at the MTV awards, forgetting the dance moves and lip-synching out of time.

Katona is alleged to have taken drugs and is in the middle of a custody battle with ex Brian McFadden over their daughters Molly and Lily-Sue.

John Sewell, managing director of onepoll.com said: “Britney has had a rough ride lately, and this isn’t going to make it any better for her.

“She needs someone to help her get her life back on track so she can concentrate on looking after her children.”

They sell themselves on the public stage of life, if they don't want to be featured in such lists they should live more private life's.

I don't think that's very fair, especially when where ever she goes she has a crowd of people following her, and sometimes she can't even get about.

She's just picked on because people know she makes mistakes, and they use it against her.

Sure, these women have brought it on themselves in terms of what they do in the public eye; Britney Spears in particular.

But the fact is that the opinions of the media and those who come up with such lists don’t matter at all in my view when it comes to such issues.
At the end of the day, it’s the children of these celebrity mothers who are the ones to say whether their mum is ‘good’ or not.

And nobody should believe otherwise.

Personally, I don't think anyone can call someone a bad mother accept for their kids. They'll be the ones who will be brought up by her, and until they're old enough to decide whether they agree with this poll, I don't think she should even be named that.

Does that go for the others too?

Yes it does. Each of them are in the media, as well as Britney, so it doesn't change for any of them. No one should be telling these mothers they're bad, it's demeaning.

Basically I agree with you the media can't judge these people as mothers and they shouldn't, but as long as people want to read this stuff and carry on buying the trashy celebrity magazines this this sort of poll will be published.

We are given what we want in these magazines. Cheap gossip and hash judgments and they sell millions of copies a week.

I totally agree. This is just unnecessarily harsh. What a great thing to wake up to: "You're the worst celeb. mother!"

I agree with you, that's a very valid point. But these people do have feelings, they do make mistakes - just like everyone else. Unfortunately their lives are printed for our pleasure, which I'm sure would make you mad if you were in the papers everyday for doing something which a celebrity 'shouldn't'. It's not surprising how these days celebrity has a completely different meaning.

I feel it might say more about man and society than we realise.

Years and years ago we would live in communities where we knew a large number of people around us. Some of these people would be the subject of gossip and moral judgments would be made about them. Good mother bad mother etc... These people had one advantage over the celebrities they could defend themselves in the local community or leave to where they are not known and start again. Towards the this period (1940's) we saw the rise of the movie stars, the first celebrities. There coverage was very controlled by the studios until the the 1960's. It is this stage that life in Britain started to change and the old style communities started to break up for good. The last being the mining communities during the miners strike in the 1980s

Communities like those in the past hardly exist any more. People are now more isolated from the people around them they have ever been. There is no gossip in the same way as there was back in the 1930s and 1940s. So to replace that source of information we have the modern celebrity who we gossip about and make our moral judgments based around there actions. It something that is as old as civilization itself. The thing for the celebrity is that they don't have the ability to get away from the media. They can't more town or get away. They can't defend themselves without being attacked back in the international media.

It's not something that can be put right over night. It not something that has going away. The break down of local communities and the globalization of the media mean that this is now the norm.
