I've been fat when I was younger, I made a diet during 4 whole years, it was hard but it made me stronger and it does explain my social situation now. Harder, Better, Faster and Stronger as the Daft Punk would say.
I did fit the gym, I'm not fat anymore and I help "fat" people at the Marseille Hospital as I'm the President of the local organisation for helping these people.
It's been the battle of my life and I'm proud of it, it's something that people can't understand until they are in that case, it was the hardest thing in my life.

I find it funny how some "fat" people are taking offense from the question...
Nobody insulted you, or remarked on your weight...just purely asked the question, which you chose to answer.
So if you're going to get offended, all you're doing is displaying your own insecurities.
Anyhow, no im not fat.
Being 6ft 4 helps =] although I am technically one stone overweight for my age and height, but you can't tell. Nothing a few trips down to the gym wouldn't sort.
Some people are fat due to their parents being fat etc...
Which is horrible, because they're naturally bigger due to no fault of their own.
People who are fat without the excuse of family/glandular problems, are usually people with issues. Comfort eating is the most common reason why people are fat, closely followed by people who just eat too much and are lacking a life. Which results in barely any exercise/walking/activity.

I would hate to be fat, you'll regret it when your older and you have several heartattacks and heart failure. When your a teenager, it's your last chance to sort your body out.

The only issue with being fat is...
As happy as you may be, it can restrict you from certain activities.
It also effects your health, and could knock a few years off your life.
You might not care now, but when you're older and you die at the age of lets say 71? whereas if you'd stayed slim and healthy and lived until 85? you'll wish you could have had an extra fourteen years im sure.
Billy

It does depend in which situation you are, you can't blame a fat person for being offensed by that question, it's normal. I've been like them and I've been offenced and sad when I watched a topic on tv and stuff.
It's not an insult, it's just something you would like to not talk about.
There is a difference between people like Billy who don't want to loose anything and I, who had so many problems in the life and finally did find a paradise in food and stuff.
People don't eat like that for pleasure, I can confirm you as I work a lot with these people and normally they had loads of problems.
People like Billy are proud and it's good for them, however they have to be careful for the health.

i agree slimmer is better and being fat has many other bad things as well as health problems, remember Pete Waterman's opinion of Michelle Mcmanus winning Pop idol, all he saw was the size of her and ignored her vocal talent
he was thinking through his bank balance at the time and he was right, where is she now:puzzled:

Gemmer...
If you're 5ft 5 and 7 stone...and think you're overweight, you best be careful.
If one day you decide to try and lose a stone because you think you're fat, you'll be underweight if anything. And it could cause you serious harm.
Sunshine30 I know what you're saying. But some people are bullied for being tall, yet if someone asked the question "are you tall?" in the forum, I wouldn't be offended by it. Even though im 6ft 4. So when a fat person does take offense, it is mainly due to the fact they're a little insecure that they're bigger.
In todays world, there's lots of people announcing that they prefer larger people anyway. And Billy, if you're healthy then that's good =] I have no idea how overweight you actually are so I obviously have no idea if your weight causes you any problems or not.
But it seems to be in people's best interest to stay of an average weight.
Too skinny/Too fat will seriously effect you when you're older.
Even healthy average people suffer many problems when they're of a certain age. Just standing up or walking around can have a strain on you. So throwing over/under weight into the situation could have bad results.
So yea, in short, all im saying is that people who are over/under weight have plenty of time to do something about it now, so that they don't suffer later. You don't have to listen to what im saying, but you may benefit from it when you're older.
You don't want to wake up in 40yrs with serious health problems, feeling pain every day of your life and being on a wide range of tablets, just because you couldn't be bothered to do anything 40yrs earlier.

It's based on self-perception though really. I'm not thin.
And sunshine30, you're completely right - it requires a lot of self-motivation and nobody but the people themselves who want to lose weight can do it.

I know, I'm not saying that only fat people are bullied but it's normal that people find it offensive. And of course, fat people are insecure, then they wouldn't be fat, only and only if they don't want it.
For Billy, I have to say, don't listen anyone except your doctor, it's a story between him and you. That's your choice and well done for that choice.

Five stone? seriously? How old are you Shorty? if you don't mind me asking.
I weigh over 16st. Which sounds ridiculous I know, but with being tall and twenty years old, comes a lot more weight.
Apparently I should be 14-15st for my age and height.
Hence why I cycled 20miles yesterday!
If I can manage to get myself out of bed in the morning, i'll most likely cycle another ten miles or so.

Some people are just naturally thin. And it can be the other way round. I think I'm somewhere in the middle, but because I like junk food a lot, my weight fluctuates more rapidly. I can lose weight easily but put it on just as easily, which makes me think I'm fat. It's so easy for thinner people to make fun of people who do have fat on them because they're happier with their bodies and in todays society, if you're overweight for your age you're seen as fat and it's normal to be 20 and be 7 stone.
I am fat, but I've never been bullied for it and I'm so grateful for it because I'm insecure as it is, never mind if I got taunted for it. People have obviously said things behind my back but I'm lucky enough not to have had it said to my face.
I don't blame my parents at all though, it's got nothing to do with them!
I think I have a problem with my gland though so, that might be part of my problem.
A lot of people don't have to work hard to be thin and a lot of them think they automatically have the right to make fun of someone who is overweight.
Commenting nastily about someone's weight is one of the harshest things you can ever, ever do. No matter how much someone seems to be confident of the way they look, everytime they look in the mirror, they will be reminded of that comment someone made to them and people look in the mirror a lot more often than they realise.

i know its creuel when people make fun at fat people but when we watched the x-factor and saw that fat family we just think cruel thoughts it cant be helped and many can admit or lie to that but its true
loads of people are happy being thin or medium or fat and are happy to live that way but i am happy being thin while others are happy bein medium or fat so what:puzzled: those that are happy can stay happy and those who are not can try and improve there weight whatever:rolleyes:
if someone says something bout fat people to fat persons face then it is awful but many do and for those that gett horrible things said bout them behind their backs then that is to be expected,if youve experienced bullying for being fat that must be awful and if youve escaped it then your lucky but most dont and the bigger the person the worse it is prob
people make fun of overweight people for all kinds a reasons and spite is prob one of them surely im not like that though but i still sympathise and would advise for some to improve themselves for all kinds a reasons, you can naturally have your stomach stapled or another op but thats an emergency measure open to anyone, but not so great. most fat people expect to be bullied in their life it is to be expected no matter how cruel it comes over and that is awful, but just like anything which looks obscene or diff they do say stuff i guess the two choices available is to either ignore or be proud of what you are no matter what size you areand either live with it or hope to improve on it if you can but if your glands are that way then its op or nout

I would go to surgery tomorrow but they would just turn me away.
For me though, I'd rather be bullied than someone feel sorry for me or sympathise 'with' me, I find that so bloody patronising!

i understand bout people patronising fat people and that is terrible in how many people think and gob off, im short and that bugs me and trust me when i say that people pick on short people as well as fat people but many are cruel and when someone is fat people say stuff without thinking:sad:

The NHS will only do it if your diagnosed with being depressed and surgery is the only thing that will cure your depression and also you have to legally be 18 in this country to have surgery or cosmetic surgery if it isn't a medical procedure.
Yeah, people can just say "fat" without thinking about it but it is quite an offensive term. (well, in my eyes, when it's said nastily)

No, I was like major skinny in Yr 6 so I put on loads of weight, but when I stopped eating breakfast recently ive lost a stone so now I weigh like 8 and a half or something, and Im happy with the way I look for once, I am trying to diet a bit at the moment still.
I don't really think theres any problem with 'fat' people, as long as its healthy. No one can be 'obese and proud'.

I can't stress enough how much this topic isn't directly rude to anybody...
When you can't see people over a computer screen, and you ask the forum if they're fat or not, it's the equivalent of asking them if they're tall or have blue eyes.
It's entirely in that persons head if they choose to take offense from this topic, it's nothing to do with the topic itself. If you're insecure about your weight and get offended by this topic, then that's a problem you need to address yourself. If you're happy with your weight, this topic won't bother you at all.
Don't blame topic creators for your unhappiness about your appearance.
It's equally as silly as someone posting a topic on hair length and colour, and you not being happy with your current hair colour/length and being offended by the topic creator for asking the forum about it.
Anyhow...
People on a whole do tend to be quite shallow. Im sure a large majority of people have thought something bad towards someone fatter/uglier than them. It's natural instinct to judge someone's appearance, your brain makes a judgement within seconds of whether you find that person repulsive/normal/attractive and it's something you can't get away from. You instantly establish whether you fancy that person looks wise or not.
The problem is, whether you choose to voice any bad thoughts.
If you do, it's usually because you're trying to make yourself feel better. Either that or you consider making fun of people hilarious..which says more about you than it does them.
If you choose to mention a persons weight because you're genuinely concerned for them or their health...and think they need a push in the right direction, then that's fine. But that person might not necessarily want help.
There have been some people claiming that they're lucky to weigh next to nothing...I don't think that's luck. If you can't put on weight you may have an unusually small stomach, and be more fragile to disease and infection. Very skinny people are just as likely to have internal problems, even though they feel fine, their body is struggling to support itself on the inside.
So maybe very skinny people shouldn't think they're lucky, or better...
Infact they're just as unfortunate as those that are overweight when it comes to health.
Even in terms of attractiveness, over skinny people aren't a pretty sight to most men. Unfortunately, a lot of girls trying to be size 0 think over skinny is a good look...
As a man, I prefer my women without their hips poking out and their collar bones in full view.

The difference between "fat" and "obese" is that when you are supposed to be fat, you are not neccessarely unhealty but when you are obese you are unhealthy and you have some problems.

At one point in my life I was obese, but to most people I just looked overweight, that comes down to the fact that I am 6ft tall! I am a lot slimmer now, not waif like I have to say but an average size. Everyday is a struggle for me as I so easily gain weight, but it's worth it for how my size makes me feel.
I have no issue with people because of their size, we all make our own choices in life.

Well..... I'm pregnant atm so yeah..... I am fat
Normally without le bump I wouldnt say I was fat, or skinny.... I have a curvy figure, slim waist but curves in all the right places.
When I went thro my divorce last year I went down in weight dramatically and I hated it. I was very skinny and it just didnt suit me.
I'm a size 10/12 normally so I dont think I would class that as fat
Everybody is different, what some people class as fat others would class as overweight, while what some would class as skinny others would class as underweight.
I think its all about being comfortable with who you are and thats the only thing that matters

Wow I'm really surprised by what people said, it's always cool to see that some members do agree and had a past like mine so we can talk about it. I'm glad to help people to with my past, that's why I love TIBB.

I think you will find a whole lot of us have had to battle the bluge Remy, it isnt easy as you well know and it is something you have to stick with forever otherwise your size goes back up. I hate after a holiday all the extra work I have to do from over indulging BUT I dont let it spoil my holiday either.

I know it's something that you keep forever in your mind even if like me, you were training hard in order to get a fit body. My size went back up but I won't forget what I've done in order to be here....nothing to eat for christmas and your birthday and including your parents because they don't want you to be umconfortable. Making a big diet when you are obsese idn't easy and touchs all the family.
And I'm glad to work with the hospital in order to help these people who need some support.

No, I am rather skinny for my age. I'm not fond on food at all, but I still eat it. I don't want to have Anorexia but I don't want to have Bulimia, so I just eat normally.

I would hate to be fat, you'll regret it when your older and you have several heartattacks and heart failure. When your a teenager, it's your last chance to sort your body out.
Can i say something "matthew" but how will you know ALL fat people will get heart attacks..
can you tell the future..NO..
so dont say to billy. you will regret because you will get ah eart attack.. because he probably wont, so dont say that because its like insulting fat people..

I can say and confirm that saying that "fat" people would possibly have heart attacks won't upset them.
However, some can be annoyed if some people repeat at all the time that they are unhealthy. As I said, 2 categories of big people exist, the ones who want to loose weight and who are severely uncomfortable and some like Billy who are proud and made a difficult choice.
