CELEBRITIES are to act as Big Brother for the first time in a spin-off of the reality show.
Famous faces will take turns to boss around housemates in Big Brother Celebrity Hijack.
It replaces Celebrity BB – “rested” after this year’s race row fiasco involving Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty.
A spokeswoman said: “Viewers will be able to see the celebrities as they act as the voice of Big Brother.
“In addition, the stars will also help set tasks, make their own rules, and help cause havoc.”
Producers normally voice Big Brother on the Channel 4 show.
This year they will help choose the housemates, and are looking for “extremely talented, but ordinary” people aged 18 to 21.
The spokeswoman added: “The idea is to see how these gifted housemates, who have excelled in the real world, will cope under the guidance of Big Brother’s celebrity hijackers.”
The identity of the stars is not yet known.
The show will air on E4 in January.
...this sounds a bit boring, if true.

to be honest i dont really understand it. Does this mean that the celebs are choosing housemates tasks etc, for bb9 or another one to be shown on e4 in jan?
Where was the source for this?

BREAKING BB NEWS
Day 132, 07:30
Big Brother's been hijacked!
Many celebrities have caused chaos ON Big Brother, but in January 2008 - for the first time ever - a rogues gallery of stars, slebs and boffins will be seizing control to actually BECOME Big Brother.
From dictating tasks to interrogating inmates and controlling nominations the great, good and ghastly will be ripping up the rule book, holding rewards to ransom and generally creating mayhem alongside the REAL Big Brother in 'Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack.'
Their willing hostages? A houseful of Britain's most exceptional and extraordinary 18 to 21 year olds.
Over the next few weeks Big Brother will be combing the UK's hottest young artists, athletes, scientists, musicians, entrepreneurs, fashion gurus and dons in every other field to assemble a cast of pure prodigies.
If you're aged 18 to 21 and think you've got the talent it takes, make sure you come back here later this week for full details on how to apply.

I'm not sure. I have a feeling this might be a set up to trow people off course. They might have set up this fake show in order to fool contestants.
This sounds quite intresting... depending on how it plays out.
It seems to be larger budget than we expected.
Having said that, they probably had a CBB budget ready anyway and are just spending it on this now.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/bigbrother8/a77207/new-big-brother-spin-off-show-in-january.html
A new Big Brother spin-off show featuring celebrities and ordinary people will air in January.
Big Brother Celebrity Hijack will be shown on E4 and will replace Celebrity Big Brother, which has been given a break from its annual scheduling.
The programme will give celebrities the chance to take on the role of Big Brother in setting tasks and challenges for a set of "extremely talented but ordinary" people aged between 18 and 21.
None of the celebrities involved in the show have been revealed yet.
A show spokesperson told The Sun: "Viewers will be able to see the celebrities as they act as the voice of Big Brother.
"In addition, the stars will also help set tasks, make their own rules, and help cause havoc.
"The idea is to see how these gifted housemates, who have excelled in the real world, will cope under the guidance of Big Brother’s celebrity hijackers."
Doesn't interest me really, I thought they'd do something with the format in order to help shape the future of the show, but yet they are sticking with celebrities, which you know on E4 will just be Z-Listers.

So basically it's the exact same thing except celebrities do the voice of BB. Some "experiment".

That's what I thought; like them telling Chantelle it would be a mix of celebrities and non-celebrities, but really she was the only non-celebrity.
sounds interesting hope it goes well!

Well atleast we know what it is know!
Seems a it strange, but on the website it said contact us if you think you've got what it takes, meaning that the auditions are purely for BB9 as I have hoped!
This is a rubbish idea though to be honest. What the hell is it?! Its just BB with Z-listers doing the voices!

If you read the articles properly, it appears that the celebrities will be the producers, not just the voices.

Yea, I know! It was just to make my point come off as more dramatic!
By the way, this means {Checkmate} was wrong. Inside information . . .

I'll expand on my ideas for what it is when I said it will be like Britain's Got Talent meets Big Brother.
It says the housemates will have talents, from artists, musicians, scientists, athletes, fashion guru's etc. It also says celebrities will be the voice and basically producers of BB, as they will be setting tasks etc.
So I reckon it will be more of a talent show rather than where a bunch of strangers just go in and sit around for a month or so and nominate each other and leave it to the public.
The celebrities will all probably be from the specific 'talent fields'. So you'll have a celebrity musician, a celebrity scientist, celeb athlete, celeb fashion expert, celeb artist etc. And they all set tasks according to their skills.
The housemates may be grouped up like X Factor, or they may play individually, but I bet it's to do with them trying to perfect their talent with the coaching of celebrities of the same talent.

One thing I have to say I like about this is all the housemates we get to meet! We get the celebrities and the normal people.
Although, the idea actually makes it sound bigger than CBB doesn't it? How is this specially made for E4?
Well anyway, another world first for BBUK!

First of all, it's new.
Secondly, the cast is between 18 and 21 y-o and from every part of the society, so we get more diversity.
And finally because the celebs will be back and put a huge mess in it !

Back in 2000 when Channel 4 issued a press release for Big Brother, did you think "wow, this will be must see TV, lets watch 10 people sit around all day and vote one out every week"? I don't think anyone thought it would be good, or have the impact it has had. So wait before making judgements like that.

It may turn out good, but I'm still disappointed because I don't think it's the direction BB needs to take. When the word 'experimental' was branded around I assumed they would use BBX to play around with the format, try new tasks and twists that change the course of the game and have to make the housemates work a bit more and then the ideas that are successful they could adapt into Big Brother 9. But no, once again it's all this gimmicky stuff.

This is probably wishful thinking but could it not be that this is all just a pathetic cover-up. Its for 18-21 year olds and its a chance to meet celebrities at the same time as possibly getting a zeleb status afterwards. Alot of people are going to audition for this. What if say, it is all talentless wannabes who think they're going into the safety of this Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack but in actual fact discover when they get in its a completely different show and its a much harsher BB.
If not, what the hell did you expect?! Honetly!

Sounds really, really crappy
Will the Celebrities be living in the house? Or will there be two houses. I think it's going to be more documentary than reality.
Will Davina present or be involved......
I remember Davina sayiyng in an interview that she would like to take on the role of Big Brother.

My first post on here and I feel I have to comment on this January show
My personal opinion is it's a waste of time, time which could have been better spent making BB9 into a real blockbuster
Didn't we have enough screaming banshees on BB8 ie Twins, Charley, Chanelle, etc.
I don't understand what this show is trying to do or prove but under 3 months to find z-lebs is cutting it a bit close. I mean, which celebs would be willing to give this parody of an club 18-30 holiday camp show a go?
Never the less, I will give it a few days to make summary judgement but I can't see it catching on

The chances are they will get more celebrities for this than they will for a normal CBB because their egos won't get bruised, nor will their reputations be tarnished...

I think the point made is that people would sign up to this show thinking it is Celebrity Hijack when it is something different. I think its a perfectly valid point even though I like the idea of the celebrities taking over.
