How about a thread where we identify a song from a few lyrics?
Here's one to start:
Love, let me sleep tonight on your couch
And remember the smell of the fabric
Of your simple city dress :conf:

Come on folks, don't be spoilsports, have a go!
Clue number one:
The writer and performer of this died in tragic circumstances in 1997, and IMHO he was a genius!
kaphc
28-10-2003, 03:45 PM
Sorry ROB, I don't recognise those lyrics at all! With your clue, I'm thinking Kurt Cobain or Michael Hutchence, but I can't imagine that you would think either of them is a genius?
Romantic Old Bird
28-10-2003, 08:17 PM
Absolutely Kaph, I didn't think either of them were.
Perhaps I pitched it a little to obscure.........sorry.
I'll tell you who and what it was, and then give you an easier one, OK?
It was Jeff Buckley from his album Grace (1994) and the track was 'So Real'. Don't know if this will wiork, but if you haven't heard him try this SO REAL (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/recs/radio/krex/-/track/B0000029DD001005/ref=pd_krex_dp_t/002-2140449-1394433#)
OK, now for one you should get!
You'd say I'm putting you on
But it's no joke, it's doing me harm
You know I can't sleep, I can't stop my brain
You know it's three weeks, I'm going insane
You know I'd give you everything I've got
for a little peace of mind
kaphc
29-10-2003, 03:05 PM
I know that one - it's a Beatles song. Is it called "So Tired" or "I'm so tired" or something like that?
I hadn't heard of Jeff Buckley but I've just looked him up and he was the man who wrote "Hallelujah" on the Shrek soundtrack which is a brilliant song!
Romantic Old Bird

'I worked all through the winter

We had to sell the telly
Late evenings by the fire
With little kicks inside her'

Well I think it's LEE's turn to set a lyrics question, so maybe if we ask nicely, she might choose something that we can guess!
Over to you LEE .....
Romantic Old Bird
17-11-2003, 01:52 PM
Well, Lee was fully right - so indeed, over to you LEE:thumbs:
This is quite an old one, but a classic
Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through they can't understand.
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end.
Romantic Old Bird
18-11-2003, 12:31 PM
Oh dear, memories Lee - this was already an oldie when OH and I smooched to this the night we met in Spain......
It took me years to realise it was Nights in White Satin and all a bit erotic.
I had girlish romantic dreams of Franco Nero as Sir Lancelot in a white Satin tunic..........
Quite right ROB
Your turn again
Romantic Old Bird
19-11-2003, 01:33 PM
Okeydokey, try this:
[i]
Realms of bliss
Realms of light
Some are born to sweet delight[/1]
That'd be 'The End of the Night' by 'The Doors' ROB
I think this one will be quite easy...........
Once in a while
Two People meet
Seemingly for no reason
They just pass on the street
Suddenly thunder showers everywhere
Who can explain the thunder and rain
But there's something in the air

is this flight of fantasy

I think you've stumped us all on ths one, LEE!
If I had to guess, I would wonder if it was one of Tony's songs but I don't have a clue which one!
You are sort of right Kaph as it is an old Spandau song.
Let's see if anyone can get which on it is though - come on Janette, I thought you would know this one
Romantic Old Bird
26-11-2003, 12:55 PM
Hello Lee,
I dug out my old Spandau Ballet collection and there it was!
'I'll fly for you' on Parade
At last
You are quite right ROB and Tony still sings a version of this, though he didn't include it on the last tour.
Over to you :spin2:
Romantic Old Bird
26-11-2003, 06:38 PM
Thanks Lee.
Try this one for size:
Well I don't need nobody else
All I need's a single ticket
When I travel on my own
Not afraid to be alone
That's from 'Got my Feet on the Ground' by 'The Kinks' ROB
:dazzler:
OK, what's this then
The photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
Turned around backwards so the windshield shows.
Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse.
Still, it's so much clearer.
I forgot my shirt at the water's edge.
The moon is low tonight.

OK, this one is an old and a new song:
"Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy birthday – happy birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen – sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me – no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson
Look right through me – look right through me"
Good luck!

Mad World by Tears for Fears, also by Gary Jules in the film Donnie Darko.

Absolutely correct James! I love the version that appears in Donny Darko.
Over to you for the next lyric ...
James
03-12-2003, 10:25 PM
Sometimes you're better off dead
There's gun in your hand and it's pointing at your head
You think you're mad, too unstable
Kicking in chairs and knocking down tables
In a restaurant in a West End town
Call the police, there's a madman around
Running down underground to a dive bar
In a West End town

From the wonderful "Shrek"
Did you know they're doing Shrek 2 with john Cleese as Fiona's father?
It's going to be fantastic!

I've had a go at some of these I'll have you know.
Will put my thinking cap on and see if I can put a title to these lyrics.
Here's a clue - this band are currently supporting UB40 on their UK tour and a friend of mine went to see them last Thursday and said both bands were brill.
God you lot are hopeless  Janette has asked for another clue, so here it is.
This song wasn't very punk really and it was from a damn good album which people might think was Australian from the title - they'd be wrong though.

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait

Thanks Avril
Try this one folks:
Now jimmy looks sweet ’cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule
It’s a real mean team
We can love
Oh yes, we can love
Brother’s back at home
With his beatles and his stones
We never got if off on that revolution stuff
It was such a drag
Too many snags

The wonderful David Bowie with "All The Young Dudes"
Why be afraid if I’m not alone
Though life is never easy the rest is unknown
Up to now for me it’s been hands against stone
Spent each and every moment
Searching for what to believe

At last!
I knew it had to be Gloria Estefan, but I didn't know which song . . . . . I do now! :hello:
'Coming out of the Dark' :dazzler:
Hope I'm right now!

I checked and that is correct Kaz.
I'll ask another because I heard it recently...
I'd try to tell you that the things we had were right
Any more would give it away, and there are two possible answers...

Correct Janette, the other possible answer was Another Chance by Roger Sanchez...
If I had another chance tonight
I'd try to tell you that the things we had were right
