Indeed. This has obviously been made just to stir up some religious debate of some sort.

Ive seen other pictures/films whilst I was studying at college, which were again of the devil appearing in smoke...
My friend showed it to our lecturer and he just plain laughed, and said he could mess around with it and make a devils face if he wanted.

You can either use photoshop to edit each frame of a film to look like a face appearing then place it into a film editing program, or just plain use photoshop to edit one picture.

My friend made a website the other month using flash, and decided to mirror quite a detailed background so it'd be symetrical. When he did, the devils face emerged perfectly in the middle...
And it wasn't simple like the one above, but was quite detailed and had horns and huge hollow eyes. That was pretty strange since it was genuine.

More simpler than that, just pure pareidolia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia)

Looks like photoshop to me also.......However images/shapes are often created in clouds/smoke even tree branches...

As no one even knows a devil exists let alone what it lookes like the image if created accidentally proves nothing at all.

It also hasn't been photoshopped. AP news agency were the ones who took it and they are a very credible world news agency and they said that it was not photoshopped in any way, and scientists analysing the pic have agreed.

Like I said though, it's pure coincidence.

It all depends on what yo believe in! If you believe that their is a satan, then you'll admit that the video is pretty convincing. If you don't believe then you'll not accept that it is there.

Not necessarily. Sticks is a Christian and therefore believes in an evil force (satan, if you like) - and even he accepts that it's Pareidolia, in which there's been many instances of.

Sorry to use you as an example Sticks.

Not a problem

At the community centre we rent for our church service there was a cartoon picture of "the Devil" which has been put up for Halloween. To me it looked like Mr Tumnis the fawn in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The popular image of the devil seems more related to Pan and fawns. If you look at the 2nd letter to the Corinthians it states that Satan can masquerade as an angel of light, in fact according to Jewish mythology, he was the most beautiful of the angels before the angelic rebellion. I can not find reference in the NT that lends credence to the cartoon image of the devil, to with a red horned man, with a goatee beard and a pitch fork. If it is there, let me know the book chapter and verse.

The only comparisons with animals that come to mind, are serpents, Genesis 3 and Revelation 20, or a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8).

God reminds Satan in Ezekiel 28:12 that, "You were...perfect in beauty."

The modern-day image of satan is simply a commercialised image, easy to sell as a product.

I genuinely think that could be real, as when I look at the image without thinking of a dragon? or whatever it is, it just looks like a regular photograph.

Then when someone draws the lines in place, you can make out an image of a dragon/devil/whatever they're assuming it to be.
Not that it means anything, as ive seen many images featured in things throughout my life.
Some people who study photography might have done this as part of their course, and had to find images of things within other things. And it's surprising what you can find if you look hard enough.

Also, Lauren...if something is photoshopped with genuine skill [perhaps even the photographer for the agency photoshopped them himself in order to make some extra money.] then it doesn't matter how credible the agency is, the image could still be photoshopped or real. On the off chance that the agency has a photoshop expert employed, who analyses the pics to see if they're edited...even then, someone could still outclass his observation skills, with their high level of photoshop skills.

As for scientists...
I don't see how they can do anything more than what a photoshop expert can do. They could analyse each pixel and look for signs of techniques used, lighting and angles, but surely if it's done properly scientists wouldn't have any reason for knowing either.
