I've seen a few members around here who, as they aren't English, but are equally not South African, are "supporting" South Africa in the rugby world cup tonight.

Why is this the case? Is it no more than a joke?

Because I don't think so.

In my opinion it's quite sad to go against the team that put you out of the competition, and it's even sadder when I see members of the Home Nations (Scotland, Wales) supporting South Africa.

Well so, yes I do support South Africa even if I'm not South African. I love rugby, I practive rugby, my father was a rugbyman, well, rugby is a serious matter and I always supported more the South African team than the English one.
It's not because you have beaten us last week that I support South-Africa for tonight's finale.

And the "sad" thing is an opinion, some people aren't obligated to support the same team as you do so respect that.

Similarly, with football in particular, there's always a "rival team" - eg. Arsenal hate Tottenham Hotspur, vice versa.

Shaun I thinks it because deep down we all love to hate our rivals. I am an ice hockey fan and love to hate the Nottingham team, no matter how good they are I generally refuse to acknowledge them as being any good what so ever.

All I can say on rugby and football is:

1. I find it hilarious when people support their home teams purely because they live there. And call it "their team" whether it be England, or your local town.
It's just a bunch of common men who wouldn't so much as give you the time of day, usually foreigners who aren't part of your town/country, yet they're worshipped by adoring fans just for the mere throwing/kicking of a ball. Most are usually the "cocky lads" types that bullied people at school because they didn't have the brain power to hold a decent conversation, and played sports in order to be "cool" and also because they weren't capable of anything else (not all, but most).

2. Without so much media attention and ridiculous prices on players and teams, these sports would be nothing. It'd be as important to people as squash, or badminton. It doesn't matter how "skilled" the players are, sometimes they do well and sometimes they don't, sometimes they score and sometimes they don't...which amounts to it being as exciting as watching ten kids in the park playing football.

Let's put it this way... if there are two housemates ('A' and 'B') in the Big Brother house that are rivals, and you support 'A'. Both are nominated for eviction and your favourite is evicted, you don't want the rival to go on to win the series, do you?

I support South African because my dad and uncle is orginally from SA, so I have south african in me. It's not that I dislike England it's just I want to stay loyal to the team that I honour more.:thumbs:

Meh, I'm welsh and I'm supporting South Africa over England. I'm not anti english or anything but I can't stand the rugby team so I support anyone who's against them. Sorry but that's the way I do it.. you probs don't like it, but everyone's different.

I support Wales, but I still wanted Australia to win the world cup so I was happy that they won against us earlier on in the competition.

Anyways I love my rugby and at the moment South Africa are the better team, so I hope they do win.

It's just a bunch of common men/women who wouldn't so much as give you the time of day, usually stupid people who aren't part of your town/country, yet they're worshipped by adoring fans just for shouting and sitting around doing nothing. Most are usually the "cocky lads/ladetts" types that bullied people at school because they didn't have the brain power to hold a decent conversation, and went in, in order to be "cool" and also because they weren't capable of anything else (not all, but most).

2. Without so much media attention and ridiculous prices Hello and closer give them would be nothing. They'd be as important to people as nurses or shop assistants. It doesn't matter how "loud" the house mates are, sometimes they do well and sometimes they don't, sometimes they get a job out of it and sometimes they don't...which amounts to it being as exciting as watching ten people sitting in a pub.



I used to like to see all the home nations do well, now I want the non English teams to lose. This only came about as a reaction to the English haters.

Sounds like your own personal "comeback" or revenge on those who hate the english, even though im sure none of them are aware as to what or who you support.

That's sound logic if ever I saw it.

Also, if you're saying such things about Big Brother it begs me to question why you're actually here. And comparing people's likings towards individuals with personalities, which is common place amongst the history of mankind, to that of people supporting one group of people over another due to ridiculous reasons such as where they live, or to spite english haters isn't even worth noting.

I follow Leicester Tigers as I am from Leicester. I follow England as I am English.

I am just repaying the favour to the other home nations.

Oh, and I support my team not who plays for them.

Why am I here. Yes I dislike BB but I dislike racists more. So when Nodis came here I followed to see if he would continue spouting his vile filth, and to wind him up. I have never hid that fact. I met a few people here that I got on with so I stayed. You will hardly ever see me in any of the BB sections though as it holds zero interest for me.

What's so funny about supporting your towns team? I support Stevenage and all the players give 100% for the team week in week out and they have passion in playing for the side, the bond between fans and players is strong.All the players make time for the fans and appreciate the support.Whenever I've spoken to any of the players and said well done, they'll always make time to speak and even shake my hand.

I'm sure there are players who are like you've assumed they are but to label all of them like this is just misguided.You've clearly just taken on the example of some overpaid, foreign premiership footballers and put all others in the same bracket.

You obviously have very little interest so it doesn't mean as much to you and you cannot appreciate it.
