I would like to ask what Vista would I need to use just for a home computer as im on windows XP still but my mate said I need to get windows Vista so any advise is welcomed thanks :hug:

I'm not sure your friend is giving you some good advice, to be honest. Microsoft will be supporting XP for many a year as people are reluctant to upgrade to Vista. To totally upgrade would mean that every single driver for every single application needs to be re-written. That's going to take some time. Believe me.

I hear differing report about Vista some people I speak to love it and others hate it. Upgrade but only if you want to, I don't think you're going to need to for a few years.

I work alot with the NHS. Some of the hospital trusts I work for have tens of thousand of PC's all running XP. I know for a fact that they're going to be reluctant to upgrade to Vista. There's no way I see Microsoft refusing to support them. Stick with XP.

dont bother switching to vista yet!they havent brought out service pack 1 or 2 and some programes still havent updated to work on vista so theres no need to get it yet IMO.but if your getting it the best version to get is "Vista Home Premium"

Ann, you do NOT need to upgrade to Vista right now. In fact, Vista is quite buggy at the moment from what I hear, so I wouldn't recommend it.

I suggest you stick with XP for now and wait for a while.

As for what package you should get, I would suggest Vista Home Premium.

I also suggest you download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor - click here to get it (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx) - before you buy to ensure your computer can run it.

Vista is awful at the moment. Even places like PC World are telling people to stick with XP. Atleast wait until summer 2008 before you buy it, they should have all the problems sorted by then.

I have Windows XP on my computer, but then Vista on my laptop.

I don't think we'll be upgrading the computer until next year, because we're still pretty used to XP and it works fine etc. Since I bought a new laptop, it came automatically with Vista and I actually quite like it, and it's just as easy to use.

Vista is prettier to look at than XP but it doesn't exactly let you do a whole lot more, and it likely slows things down on older machines.

I'd only get it if you are buying a new computer.

I've changed my opinion on Vista and have decided i'll get it after Christmas when Service Pack 1 comes out.
