If we look at evolution, one creature doesn't transform into anything else over its lifetime...
[unless you're going to argue over caterpillars etc, which isn't relevant.]
It's the offspring that changes when it is born, and is born as something slightly different.
Therefore an egg was hatched by something that was chicken like, that was changing throughout the generations, until finally a chicken was produced from an egg.
So the egg =] would be my answer.
Eggs kept hatching over a very long period of time, and each time they hatched the creature was slightly different until finally, one day a chicken was hatched, thus the introduction of the first ever chicken.

The egg.
Dinosaurs were hatched from eggs way before chickens ever came in to being.
Now if the question was what came first, the chicken or the chicken egg then my answer would be the chicken. As until the chicken came in to being there could be no chicken egg.

The egg of course ! So many animals are from the eggs.
But the question is a good one because without eggs, no chicken but with no chicken, no eggs lol
You gotta love Catch 22.
MY religious studies teacher said it was the chicken.

That's the point, you still get eggs with no chicken...
Creatures that were slowly evolving into chickens were laying eggs, each time the egg was laid the creature would be slightly different, until finally one of these chicken like creatures laid an egg that hatched a chicken in its form we know today =]
It's as simple as that.
If you think god put chickens on the planet, then you might think differently.
If you believe in science/evolution, then the above is the correct answer. As I said before, the egg came first. As no creature can evolve into a chicken through its lifetime, making the chicken impossible to be first.

Neither came first. millions of years of evalution happend lol. thats like saying how did humans start. The mother? or the child? Evalution just shaped it to be that way.

We know that the human being is from a type of monkeys (lol)
I think that at the beginning, there was no eggs and no chicken, only weird things who became the creatures.

Chickens are evolved from birds, which evolved from the only surviving dinosaurs

Again, animals don't evolve in their lifetime...
They evolve over millions of years or more.
They also evolve through birth. So occasionally when the animal was born, it was born slightly different.
So that's just plain false.
An ape gave birth to another ape with less hair and an evolved skeletal structure etc. Ape's kept giving birth and the same thing kept happening more and more, until we got humans =]
So we came from the "mother" as you call it. Which was an ape with human attributes. An ape didn't just wake up one day and turn into a human, this isn't TRANSFORMERS you know.

The egg comes first, because they are the H'orderv's (You get a hard boiled egg cut in half, scoop out the yolk, mix it with mayonaise and place it back in the hollow and serve)
The chicken comes in the main course in cock-o-vin with white wine sauce.
