Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

Take my advice. NEVER MOVE HOUSE - EVER!!!!!!! and if you do NEVER DEAL WITH THE WOOLWICH

I sold my house in September, I was supposed to be moving in November, then the people at the bottom of the chain pulled out and everything went back on the market. That got sorted quite quickly and they found new first time buyers and about 10 days later the original chain got reinstated with new people at the bottom. Fine, we thought, that puts it back a bit but we should still be moving before Christmas.

Then things started to go wrong.

It became fairly obvious that my buyers buyers were using delaying tactics and that they didn't want to move before christmas as they were really dragging their feet about everything. It got to the point about 3 weeks ago when it became obvious that we were not going to complete before christmas, however we were assured we could still exchange and then move in early January - the 6th was booked.

For the last 3 weeks EVERYONE has been chasing these people to get their survey done and I heard 2 days ago that this still hadn't happened and that the problem lies with the Woolwich - the company the buyers in question are getting their mortgage through. Apparently they are inundated at the moment and they aren't coping with the number of offers they have in and are not getting surveys organised in time. We've chased and chased and had finally found out today that at least the survey has now been approved, though a date hasn't been booked yet. My financial advisor friend told me this morning that she hates dealing with the Woolwich, that they are a nightmare and this isn't the first time she's had a deal slowed down or messed up by them.

Hopefully the survey will happen Monday or Tuesday of next week and we will be able to exchange in the first week of the new year - we have now pencillied in a revised moving date of 20th Jan.

I just can't believe how long all of this is taking - I sold my house in September for gods sake  I never really believed people when they said how stressful moving can be, well believe me it is, I think this is the most stressful thing I have ever done.

As some of you know I have reasons for wanting this move to happen ASAP and the longer it is going on the more panicky I am getting. I'm sure everything will work out fine but at the moment it is taking over my life and I just want it all over and done with.

Happy Christmas everyone and wish me luck sorting this out in the new year.

Lee - I should pass on the address of 'my next door neighbour' at work.

You two could commiserate with each other.

He too sold his house in September and the one he is hoping to move into is actually empty. He has had problem after problem none of them his fault and comes in every day - threatening to kill either the estate agent, the people who are holding everything up etc etc. He should be OK if anything happens cos he's a criminal defence solicitor so a he says he could claim mitigating circumstances.

He has a year old son and had packed everything away hoping they would be settled in, but has had to unpack everything again.

So its not just you Lee - not that its much help to you, but at least one other person is suffering too.

It's absolutely ridiculous that an important contract such as a house move can be messed around by some people and yet there's no comeback!

There should be a way of pushing them into sorting it out!

Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!! House chains are the worst things in the world (well p'rpas not as bad as disasters and terrorism but they're pretty grim!)

Anyway, I hope that things are picking up for you this side of Christmas LEE, and that you can get those contracts exchanged so that things are binding and you can get access to your new house.

Just thought I'd let you know the latest in this saga.

Yesterday we should have exchanged. What actually happened yesterday was that the people who have been causing all the trouble decided to try their luck and see if they could get away with reducing their offer on my buyers house by £2,500

So we haven't exchanged, my buyers and their buyers are arguing about the money (I think the offical word is negotiating lol )

I am just soooooo p*ssed off. We might exchange today, or hopefully on Monday, but there doesn't seem to have been one stage of this process that has gone smoothly. :bawling:

I'll keep you posted.

Is your work colleague fairing any better Busybee?

No, he is tearing his hair out. I just told him about you and he said something to the effect of "are you sure they arent in my chain" cos the same thing has happened to him. Someone is having trouble with finance (allegedly sorted out) and has made a lower offer. He has a young baby and have now unpacked everything they packed before Christmas. He is due to exchange on Monday (but as he says "which Monday")

Best of luck Lee. Everything comes to those who wait though some have to wait longer than others:hugesmile:

We still haven't exchanged :bawling:

On Monday yet another problem reared it's head when someones mortgage paperwork got sent to the wrong place and therefore still hasn't been signed.

I've been up in Manchester all week and even though we haven't exchanged I have still been given the keys and have started to decorate.

I am now definitely NOT moving on the 20th, it has been put back yet again, this time to the 29th, because of this mortgage cockup.

The person I am buying from is getting really annoyed by all of this and he is now saying that if it isn't sorted out in the next few days he is pulling out.

My Estate agent is hoping that we will exchange on Monday, though this is exactly what he was saying to me this time last week so I'm not holding my breath.

Lets just hope it all gets sorted out soon cos if this guy does pull out I am completely scuppered.

This is just getting silly now and I'm getting suicidal.

The missing paperwork did get back to the mortgage broker on Friday, but they are still not issuing the mortgage offer cos the guy concerned is Italian and they have to get it approved by someone else - not sure who but I got the impression that they had to send it off somewhere.

Why the hell didn't they tell us this last week

His solicitors will not issue the contract to be signed until they have the mortgage offer in place so the earliest we are going to exchange now is probably Friday, Thursday at a push, and Friday also happens to be the last possible day we can exchange to get the monies in place to complete on the 29th.

My vendor is still saying that he will pull out if we don't complete on the 29th, he might be scaremongering, but I have met him and I have a horrid feeling he means it.

I just don't think I can take any more of this - Boris's Bar here I come.

Don't be so bloody silly, of course we HAVEN'T exchanged

Current situation:

The Italian guy's mortgage references still haven't come through and we are now being told that the earliest that the Halifax expect to be issuing his mortgage offer is Tuesday which makes it impossible for us to complete on the 29th as his monies won't be available in time :bawling: They are still assuring us that is is merely a paperwork problem and that there isn't an issue with the actual mortgage itself, lets just hope that this is the case (we need a finger crossing smilie lol )

There is another problem as well now, but even though it is causing an extra delay it is actually quite a good thing. It involves my vendors solicitors and some missing paperwork and therefore it means he cannot legitimately threaten to pull out any more as he is now part of the cause of the delay

We are now talking about exchanging on Thursday of next week and completing the end of following week, which puts it back into Feb. The other annoying thing about this is that it is the day before Jet and I are off to Scotland for 4 days with Mr Hadley and Mr Cox and it will all be a bit of a rush - still at least it doesn't clash completely as that would be a absolute nightmare (not that this isn't more horrendous than my worst nightmare already! ) and I know of a least one forum member that would be very disappointed if we didn't make the Dundee gig :bawling:

I'm shattered as I have been up and down the country and living out of a suitcase for the last couple of weeks. Pretty soon I don't think I am going to need my new house at all cos what with decorating it even though I might not even get it, doing well over a thousand miles driving and not to mention fitting in a few gigs and bevvies along the way, I think I will have finally gone completely insane and be living permanently in a mental institution.

I have only just got back from Birmingham and I now have about 35hours at home before having to drive back up north again for the Liverpool gig and Jets birthday celebration so I think I am going to go run myself a nice bath and even though it isn't even 7 o'clock yet I'm going to go to bed!!!

I hate my solicitor. I would never recommend her to anyone else, she has been useless, never does anything unless you chase her, never gets back to me or my Estate Agent or my vendors solicitor, and this morning she told my vendors solicitor that there wasn't a completion date yet and that it was still open ended  even though she had spoken to me half an hour earlier and agreed we were all gunning for the 5th Feb. This got my vendor all fired up and threatening to pull out again - I have managed to calm him down though and he's not going to do anything providing we exchange this week - which please God we will.

I phoned her up and she says she never said anything of the kind and they must have got the wrong end of the stick, but I'm afraid I don't believe her as I know how useless and non commital she has been to me over the last few weeks.

29-01-2004, 10:56 PM
Right I m not quite so worked up now. Its amazing what a couple of Buds can do to calm you down lol

What actually happened over the last couple of days is this.

The day before yesterday the Italian guys mortgage offer was approved and got sent out to the solicitor, it arrived yesterday he went in and signed his contract and paid his deposit, but for some annoying reason he didn't get around to doing this until 4pm  so it was too late to exchange.

This morning we went to exchange and suddenly the solicitor for the Rowes (the original buyers from hell with the Woolwich and the reduced offer - remember them lol ) suddenly realised that his clients hadn't signed something they needed to - I mean come on, what do we pay these people for for gods sake  - so Mr Rowe had to rush over from work to sign his paperwork and he couldn't get there till just after lunch.

At this point we still thought we would just about make exchange today.

Then the solicitor for the Italian guy refused point blank to exchange cos he said his client wasn't happy with the 5th for completion day. Now this was completely inaccurate as my estate agent had spoken to the guy this morning and he was completely happy with the 5th, so we had to contact the italian guy direct and ask him to go and kick his solicitor and get him moving. This he did and he instructed his solicitor to exchange NOW!!!!! with a completion date for the 5th and that he was 100% happy with this!

That was at about 4:30 and we were all waiting for something to happen, but the italian guys solicitor dragged his heels to the point where it was suddenly too late for today as well.

At this point we all screamed very loudly and went off down the pub!!!!!

There is now no reason under the sun why first thing tomorrow exchange shouldn't happen. My vendors solicitor is ready, so is my solicitor (and that is a miracle in itself - see my earlier post about how much I HATE her lol), so is my buyers solicitor, so is the Rowes solicitor, and if the italian guys solicitor isn't ready now we're all going to go around there personally and stand over him till he is lol

Wish me luck

I didn't think I could ever hate a solicitor more than I have come to hate my own over the last few months, but the Italian guys solicitor has just taken over her crown.

He is still refusing point blank to complete on the 5th, he says he doesn't have enough time. I'm sorry but that is complete b*&%*!ks, if he had done his job properly in the first place he would have had loads of time and there is no reason under the sun why he couldn't have called the money 2 days ago, or at the very latest yesterday  I hate him :mad::mad: and I have just discovered he is a bloody locum!

We have all now had to agree on a completion date of the 9th instead of the 5th, but as we have done this it should mean that we can exchange today.

I am so angry, I should still be able to move in next week as planned as I had arranged with my vendor to move in early anyway, but I am not sure now what implication this has on the Edinburgh and Glasgow gigs for Sunday and Monday of next week. Don't panic Kaz, the Dundee and Aberdeen ones are definitely on, but god knows whats happening now for the start of the week.

Thanks everyone

Now its all happening I have so much to do it's frightening  I'm actually moving on Tuesday and the removals men are coming around tomorrow to do my packing for me and I am not ready in the slightest. A couple of months ago I was really organised but it has dragged on for so long that I'm certainly not anymore.

Still at least I haven't got to do all my packing myself so I suppose thats a bonus.

I'll see you all in Boris's later for a well deserved drink.

After all the hassle, it must be weird to think that this is finally it and that the move is happening!

Wave to Surrey for me before you go LEE. And hope that the removals people are good (and good-looking too, might brighten up the day a bit!!)

Can I just say that I was in LEE's new house yesterday and it looks fantastic!

All the time that stupid Italian pillock was messing her around, LEE has completely redecorated and recarpeted the whole house!

Good on ya girl!

(can't wait for the housewarming!!!!!)

I have soooo much to do still, I was doing quite well yesterday until my buyer, and new friend, Sarah invited me around to dinner. We finished a couple of bottles of Red wine off between us to celebrate the move, and I feel very much the worse for wear this morning - definitely in need one of those hangover cures thats being talked about over at Boris's Bar.

Anyway, this will be the last time I am going to be online for a couple of weeks - NTL are coming around later to pick up my digibox and I will therefore lose my internet access :bawling: As I am going up to Scotland almost immediately after my move for a week I will probably not get chance to set up my new wireless broadband until I get back.

Wish me luck guys and I'll see you soon

Hi everyone

I'm here at Janettes after a VERY busy day.:spin2:

I can't believe how much we've managed to achieve today, the removals men have worked their little socks off and all my stuff is now in my new house, all the furniture is in the right place and a hell of a lot of the boxes are unpacked as well  I still have a lot to do obviously, but I never thought we would have got this far in just one day.

Anyway I am now going off for a well deserved bath followed by a glass of something.
