Friday 28 December 2007 8:00pm - 9:00pm on ITV1.

For almost 50 years, the residents of Weatherfield have had us chuckling in our living rooms with a combination of killer one-liners, slapstick farce and razor-sharp Northern wit.

Viewers will be treated to classic comedy gems from the archives and also learn some of the secrets behind that unique brand of Corrie humour revealed by the actors themselves.

Most cast members agree that it is Blanche Hunt, played by Maggie Jones, who gets the best comedy lines.

William Roache MBE, who plays her son-in-law Ken Barlow says: “The writers never miss an opportunity for a bit of humour. Generally there isn’t a situation so bad that Blanche can’t make worse.”

Ken Morley and Sherrie Hewson recount the time Reg Holdsworth’s waterbed left them with a sinking feeling, Kevin Kennedy and Angela Lonsdale tell us why having Norris Cole present at the birth of your child is not a good idea and Bill Tarmey talks about the time he donned a dress and a wig to become Ida Fag.

Liz Dawn, Malcolm Hebden, Roy Hudd, Wendi Peters and Michael Starke also fondly recall their favourite comedy moments.

The executive producer of The Funny Side of the Street is Sarah Murch. The producer is Richard Mortimer. Made by ITV Productions for ITV1.
