I thought I might discover some interesting/funny tales by asking this....
myself?
Obviously as a very young child I was oblivious to the fact that Santa was infact fictional but tbh as far back as I can recall I was always suspicious.I must have been a very cynical child and maybe still am however my suspicions were confirmed one night near christmas when I was in a local fish shop with my dad and i cant remember exactly what the lasy behind the counter said but i put two and two together and relaised that my suspitions were correct lol.

When my father had a cancer, it was about the 1st of december, he thought he was going to die so he brought me to the supermarket and told me "listen son, santa claus doesn't exist, I'm sorry but that's life, you will learn that life is not easy...choose your presents"
I was 7 and I didn't react, I'd rather to see my father alive than Santa Claus, I didn't think about it.

But now, my father is alive and I really don't care Santa Claus doesn't exist lol

When I hide one night (I wanted to see if I could see Santa lol) and saw my mum putting my stocking on the end of my bed, I also heard her and my dad sorting out mine and my brother's presents out  I remember, my mum tried to make out that Santa was too busy that night and he asked her to sort out the presents and put my stocking on the end of my bed, I wasn't having any of it

It was the last day at school before the Christmas holidays and I asked a friend what he had asked Santa to get him, he said he didn't exist so I went home and kept asking my mum but she just said don't be silly and so I just believed her and went on happy as normal.

It got to a few days after Christmas and my mum told me he weren't real, probably didn't say beforehand as she didn't want to ruin xmas for me and she'd already got the present, or maybe she just liked getting the extra mince pies and glass of brandy each year .Sod knows where the carrot went!

I can't remember really, probably from people at school. This year i've got to pretend that Santa is real again because I have a younger brother who's almost 3.

My best friend said 'My nan says Santa isn't real' so i asked my mom and she said 'No he isn't' and i said 'Next thing you'll be telling me is that the tooth fairy isn't real' and she bowed her head, i was mortified lol.

It's funny as my mum has never told me or my brothers santa isn't real and even when I ask now my mum denies the fact that santa isn't real.
So I kind of just worked it out.

When I was about 9 and I discovered it was my Grandad dressing up as Santa at the local club. My brother had already guessed but I wasn't convinced until the following Christmas when he'd broken his leg and I recognised it was him by the plaster cast - he'd told the little kids that "Rudolph kicked him"!

Santa was real, once

His name is a corruption of St Nicholas (See here for more details) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Nicholas)

He is not to be confused with Father Christmas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Father_Christmas) who were two separate entities, as the latter is more related to the Green Man tradition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man)

For the totally committed the North American Aerospace Defence Command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NORAD_Tracks_Santa) has a Santa tracking website (http://www.noradsanta.org)

BTW

I can not remember when I learned the truth about this tradition, all I can remember is I do not have a Christmas spirit, because it died in the night suddenly in 1986

The Christmas' where I believed in Santa were definetely the best and the most magical. When I was 11/12 and knew he wasn't real it wasn't the same.

Still I don't blame my parents for pretending Santa gave presents as it made Christmas special not that I don't love Christmas because I do and it's my favourite time of the year.

At around the age of 8, I kind of realised through the fact that I saw one of my Christmas presents (it wasn't hidden very well). I was into writing the notes and putting them in the fireplace and everything. At that stage, part of me knew it wasn't true but I still wanted to believe in Santa! It didn't upset me greatly, but I did get a little emotional. After that it all sort of wore off.

I honestly can't remember. Though I was pretty old when I found out, older than others anyway, I've always been really gullible.

Santa got drunk one night and crashed so the elves had to hand deliver the boxes to the door.
