Big Brother auditions turn into a damp squibBIG Brother Nine is set to be a damp squib as Wales’ wannabes stayed away from auditions in Cardiff.

By 11.30am just 179 people had bothered to get out of bed to brave the wind and rain for the chance to appear in next year’s show.

In January, contestants for Big Brother Eight queued for as long as nine hours.

This year only the truly desperate made their way to the Millennium Stadium. Not even the chance to meet Big Brother Seven runner-up Glyn Wise tempted candidates to the capital.

Yesterday, producers Endemol demanded potential contestants’ surnames were not revealed in the Press, saying they would not be allowed on the show if they were.

Marcus, 36, from Gloucester, who manages a branch of home furnishing store Dunelm Mill, said: “Cardiff is usually packed and you are queuing for hours. I’ve never been to an audition where I have been this close to the front of the queue.”

Porthcawl hairdresser and mum-of-two Melanie said: “I’ve watched the show since the very first programme.”

Only 179 people turned up, I can now see BB9 being a disastor.

im sure its not reli a problem
only 16 or so people are gonna get in anyways
and if they had a good turnout in Manchester then theyre doing ok :D

Part of the reason why there is such a low turnout is because of the timing. Having auditions before christmas was madness as a lot of people are doing exams, planning holidays, shopping and just simply don't have the time to audition. The auditions were not as widely advertised as they usually are.

Doing exams?

The majority of people auditioning for BB don't need to worry about exams.

Actually if you look at previous series there have been a lot of students in the house: Shell and Stuart BB5, Glyn and Michael BB7 and Sam and Amanda BB8
