I'd be lying if I said I wasn't shocked - but, the result made the show all the more exciting and unpredictable in a way. I missed last night's finale, but my mum was supporting Leon and she was really pleased that Leon won. I always thought he didn't have as much talent; however, he's the one who had the biggest journey, whose voice developed. And, thinking about it, the £1 million recording contract would probably benefit him the most, as I think Niki mentioned in an interview a few days ago - which was a sensible comment to make.

I don't know if he'll be as successful as previous years' winners, but with him being young I'm sure he'll improve and develop and will most likely have a bright future ahead of him now that he has won. I could always see Rhydian and SD picking up some sort of recording contract, but not Leon: bless him. I guess I underestimated his loyal fanbase and was going off polls far too literally: numbers of votes count just as much. Above all, congratulations and good luck Leon! I'm sure his fans in particular would love to see more of him.

That's what happens when you have a man who is adored by girls from the age of 9+

Against a man who some people think is odd, or arrogant etc.

Leon is too nervous and shy on camera, when he won all he could say was "errrr, thankyou"

It'll be really awful to watch him on tele doing any interviews, because there'll be a little bit of tension and awkwardness with the majority of people he speaks to. So he won't become a major success what so ever.

What will keep his career going however, is the mass amounts of girls who think the fact he's overly shy and quiet on camera is a "cute" thing.

But even they'll get bored of it eventually when he has nothing of interest to say, but comes out with the same predictable words every time.

Granted, he seems to have much more of a personality off camera...
But most people won't be seeing him off camera.

Leona was going the same way as Leon probably will, due to her quietness, but someone writing her what some people would consider a "decent" song and spamming it all over the radio every two minutes for weeks on end...has helped her keep her career for a while longer.

Will Young didn't really disappear.Months after he won pop idol he had 3 singles that went to number one and then other one went to number 2.He also had that duet with Gareth that went to number one.This was all around the same time as Gareth was having his best success

Gareth's first single knocked Will's song off the top of the charts but sold less.Will's first album sold more than Gareth's.Then as we all know Gareth's career went downhill on the 2nd album whilst Will went on to have a more successful 2nd album than even his 1st.

So really Gareth wasn't having more success than Will.I think he may have brought out a couple of singles from the 2nd album before Will did but then again that was no surprise seeing as Will was actually writing his album instead of just getting songs passed onto him or doing covers and it was only a couple of months difference.That's probably the time you're alluding too.
