It’s hard to believe that the Spice Girls first single was only released eleven years ago. In the time since then they’ve had bucket loads of awards, #1 records and a couple of world tours. They made a movie, pinched Prince Charles on the bum and with their various eating disorders have put on, and subsequently lost, approximately 857 kgs between them. [This figure may not be correct.]

They’ve all had solo projects outside of the Spice Girls but none have been nearly as successful as their Spice careers which is why it is so exciting that a Spice Girls Greatest Hits package was finally released earlier this month, just in time for Christmas!

There are a few versions of the pack, depending on your level of Spice-obsession. All of their singles are included here, from the one that started it all Wannabe all the way through to their comeback single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) and all of the spice-hits in between, as well as one other new song and Move Over from the Pepsi commercial they did in 1997.

There’s the standard CD version that contains either radio or single edits and the Special Edition that comes with a bonus DVD of all the videos. And then there’s a Limited-edition box set for the ultra fans which features the CD, the DVD, a Karaoke disc so you can hold your own Spice-party at home and also comes with a remix disc of the singles, featuring DJs like David Morales, Motiv8, Soulshock and Junior Vasquez. If you purchase through i-tunes, you also get seven bonus remixes that are different to the ones on the remix disc.

Of the two new songs, Headlines is the official Children In Need single for 2007 they performed it at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show a few weeks ago. A slow ballady number sounding similar to Viva Forever, it’s not a bad song but certainly not the chart busting hit everyone was expecting from them. Thankfully, the other new song Voodoo is boppy, fun-n-funky and more along the lines of what you’d expect from the Spices.

As a Greatest Hits package it hits the mark time and again and if you’re a Spice fan, it’s the perfect pop-filled soundtrack to summer.
