I read that this morning, I can't wait for the results show, to be honest I was shocked. I thought they would go a lot further in the show and expected them to make the final.

I have been thinking about what Simon keeps saying about David Cook coming across as arrogant. And he does at times and it affects his performances in a noticeable way. Although he is always good, he can be fantastic when he tames that arrogance. Simon points it out in order for him to get it under control and it seems to work for one or two performances then it returns.

I have been thinking about what he is doing while he is singing and what he is doing wrong that makes him come across the way he does sometimes. I'm no music expert but I do have a similar expertise in another field. Looking at the times Simon has said he has been arrogant and comparing those performances against the real great ones I have come to this conclusion

What he does when it works is he lives in the moment. He lives song, feels words and completely connects with music. He doesn't worry about what his doing he just gets on and does it. He becomes connected and in the moment. The words have meaning and you can see it and feel when he sings and what you see is special. When he gets it wrong he is out of the moment. He is not connected with the words or the music in the same way. It's like the performance is some kind of repeat of something he did before that was good and he knows was good and he can't let go of it. He just repeating the performance and judging himself and telling himself it is good. The problem is it comes over as being arrogant. This judging process and the desire and the self instilled knowledge that he is good gets in the way and stops himself being good. What he lacks is the belief in himself that once he has done something good he can do it again so he relies on the past memory of that good performance. The problem is our memories play tricks on us and the repeat performance is never the same it is degraded and this judging process gets in the way. Every time you perform live it has to be done live not from memory otherwise it will look false.

What he needs to do is let go of he past and live in the moment every time he performs. He has to know he is good enough to sing without knowing or worrying if he is good. Basically the trick is to just do it. Never think look at me I'm good. Just do it. It's the hardest lesson to learn as singer, an actor or any kind of performer.

I agree and that is what is wrong with these types of shows. The public have favorites and they are the winners. A lot of the time it's not based on talent alone. If that was the case the person that went on this week would have still been in the show next week.

I think David Archuleta will win. The producers are desperate for a successful male winner. As Red Moon has said Archuleta has the dollar factor written all over him. He appeals to tweenage/teenage girls, the so-called 'Archies Angels', who vote in their millions for him. He ticks all the boxes, he's young, good looking and has a clean cut 'boy next door' image that Americans love.

I personally find him quite bland and boring.

And? It's called an opinion.

Jason has a great voice and is one of the more all round talented contestants, along with David A and David C (Although David A's voice puts drags him down in my books.).

Brooks voice is one of the worst, and nothing special. Kristy's is just awful. She shouldnt have made the Top 24 IMO.

Carly Smithson - 10/10. Performance of the night in my opinion. Would rather have seen David C sing this, but Carly's reminded me a lot of when Kelly Clarkson sang it, and I think it was beautiful.

David Cook - 9/10. Amazing. I was expecting it to be so bad but it was in fact really good. Best male of the night by far.

Kristy Lee Cook - 9/10. Surprising eh? She's growing on me because she's the underdog, but I think she was actually incredible. Her best performance by far, even if you could hear the country in her voice.

Syesha Mercado - 8/10. Good, a lot of power, and although I think the song choice was good for her, I think it'll let her down.

Brooke White - 5/10. Okay. It was good, and up until near the end I was going to give her a seven, but it started to sound like all her other performances. Also, she messed up on the piano at the end.

David Archuleta - 4/10. It got dull and repetitive. His voice is annoying, the song choice was bad (Leon was better) and he sounded like Kermit from the Muppets.

Jason Castro - 3/10. Again, I found it boring. I can't believe he's still there, and should've gone way before Ramiele or Michael.

1.David Cook-Although I know how good he is at adapting songs to fit his own style even I was worried by this song choice,there was no need to be.I thought he was brilliant, the arrangement and his voice just everything worked. 9/10

2.David Archuleta-I thought he sung most of the song really well but he came a bit unstuck with the ending where he tried to shift things around too much.I'd like him to try something a bit different next week as he's done ballads for quite a lot of the competition.8/10

3.Carly Smithson-I was really hoping that she would nail it but she didn't quite do that for me.Don't get me wrong, I thought she did a very good job but I wasn't really wowed.8/10

4.Kristy Lee Cook-It started out kinda rough for me as Kristy's not got a very good lower range but once she got into higher parts of the song I though she sung it really well.7/10

5.Jason Castro-This turned out better than I expected, I had this down as week Jason would really struggle but he put his own slant on the song and I thought he did a decent job.6.5/10

6.Syesha Mercado-Here's the deal, Syesha's got one of the most powerful voices in the competition but I think she really overdid things this week.At times I couldn't really understand what she was singing and it just turned a bit screechy.6/10

7.Brooke White-She's obviously not got the vocal skills to really belt out the song like Mariah but she did convey the emotion of the song, just a shame that she sounded so out of tune.5/10

David Cook - Music Of The Night;; 10/10. He was incredible. I think he would make an amazing Phantom and atm, I really want him to win.
Syesha Mercade - One Rock 'N' Roll Too Many;; 9/10. She's gone up so much in my estimations. Last night was definitely her best performance yet and I hope she stays.
Carly Smithson - Jesus Christ Superstar;; 8/10. I was dreading this because I thought it'd be awful but she turned it around. She showed a lot of strength and power in her voice.
Brooke White - You Must Love Me;; 6/10. I thought she was okay. Again, I'm finding her increasingly boring due to her repetitive performances but this was slightly different. I didn't enjoy it that much though, and she seemed really nervous throughout. That made me nervous!
David Archuleta - Think Of Me;; 4/10. OMG. He forgot the words. He mumbled his way through. One of most famous. Phantom of the Opera songs. Ever. He won't be in the bottom but I really think he deserves to be.
Jason Castro - Memory;; 1/10. Seriously. It was awful. He tried to change it but screwed it up so bad. I hated it, the judges hated it, and if he's not in the bottom then it's a travesty! lol.

Bottom 3;; Jason, David A, Brooke.
However, we know David won't be, so I think undeservingly, Syesha will be.

1.Syesha-This was one of Syesha's best performances of the competition.Showed a lot of personality and the strong voice was evident throughout.Deserves a place in the top four.8/10

2.David Cook-It was interesting to hear a different side to David and I think he showed what a great and versatile voice that he has.I can really see him winning.8/10

3.Carly Smithson-Put a lot of energy into the performance and I felt the arrangement really suited her.She does have the tendancy to oversing but on
a song like this it didn't matter.Good Job Carly!8/10

4.David Archuleta-It was a pretty nice vocal from David but nothing spectacular.He kinda mumbled the song at times too.7/10

5.Jason-It was never really going to be a theme that suited Jason but I think he gave a below par performance and it was pretty boring to be honest.5/10

6.Brooke-Well she got off to the worst start ever, the pressure really seems to be getting to her and it just came across as such a shaky vocal.It makes me feel on edge just watching her.5/10

I really want Syesha to win but she has been in the bottom now 5 times, if she is in the bottom next week and survives it will be a new record currently held by season one, third place finalist, Nikki McKibbin. Brooke has to go next week. I really dislike her and her voice is ****, it's so boring, has nothing to it. She need's to learn some range cause her voice is FLAT (as is Jason's) but Brooke annoys me more.

Well that's no fun! Brooke helped us take out CarlyPlant, in the amazing results show last week, a true VFTW victory. But as soon as we said hello, we had to say goodbye. It was a great, crazy few weeks, filled with awesome VFTWness. But now, we move on. Probably to Jason, right? No poll is necessary this week as there aren't many choices left. Yes the little puppet has the 'cute' looks (if you go for that type of thing :rolleyes:) but Cook has the unique raw talent and ability to reform songs and put turn them totally on their heads

David Cook might be better off not winning as he can go in own direction, most the winners seem to be manipulated into recording set songs rather than write their own.Kelly Clarkson managed to move away from that in her last album but even then the record bosses found a way of messing things around with the singles.

I think on the night David A was the best. His performance of "Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me" is my favorite of the series.

I agree, Melinda or Gina should have won S6, but I think Jordin is still better then Carrie or Taylor. Paris should have won S5, IMO. Taylor was awful.

Paris was good, but I liked Katharine from the very start.
She won me over with Over The Rainbow in the final and I honestly thought she'd win. Taylor WAS awful.

Gina's voice was fantastic, and she reminded me of a modern 'My December' era Kelly? She was voted off WAY too early.
I think Carrie's better than Jordin, but I don't particularly like either of them. lmfao.
I found Blake's debut album MUCH better than Jordin's. Audio Day Dream is one of my fave albums of last year.

Kelly+David are my only fave winners though. Although I'd put Kelly first atm, I wanna give David time? If his music's anything like his Analog Heart album then it'll be phenominal.

Chris Daughtry should have won season 5, he's had great success since the show finished whilst Taylor's just kinda faded away.Elliott Yamin should have been the other finalist that year, he had an awesome voice.

I preferred Blake to Jordin last season but she was still a pretty decent winner.

I pretty much agreed with all the other choices for winners.

It probably helped Chris not making the final as he was allowed to get the band together, not that he wouldn't have done well on his own but it just worked out so well with the band.I can see them carrying on having great success.

I can also see both David's going on and having really good career's.I'm certain David Cook will make a great album of original songs and his sound is very mainstream at the moment.David Archuleta will most likely be hooked up with a lot of good pop song writers to produce the type of songs that will appeal to his fan base.Both of them are doing very well on US iTunes at the moment.Last time I looked the top 10 was made up of 6 songs from the pair of them.

I agree. A Chris/Katherine final for AI5 would have been a final of the two most consistent performers that year. Elliot Yamin was good but too inconsistant and Taylor Hicks won due to his 'Soul Patrol' fan base. Dan is right in saying that Taylor has faded since winning. Its strange because as it said on Vote for the worst - Soul Patrol seemed to understood the concept of picking up the phone and voting for him to win why dont they understand the concept of buying his records to boost his career.
