Nicole Richie’s boyfriend Joel Madden has written a gushing blog entry about the couple’s newborn daughter – and it sounds like he’s gone from moody rock star to proud dad in just a few days. Here are his super-cute words in full…

[b]Well I am finally home with my beautiful girlfriend and our brand new little daughter. Harlow Winter Kate Madden was born on January 11th 2008 at 3:13pm. She weighed in at 6 pounds and 7 ounces. She is 19 inches long and growing everyday already! She really is a wonderful addition to the GC/DCMA/DEADEXEC family. We are so blessed to have this beautiful little baby in our lives. I want to thank everyone for all the love and kind words they’ve sent our way. We apologize we weren’t accepting and gifts/cards/calls at the hospital, but if you’d like to send something, we’d rather you make a donation to the richie-madden foundation, which we started in Harlow Winter’s honor. She looks so much like her mom its crazy! She eats like a little maniac and she’s really sweet. She barely ever cries, even when daddy is changing her diaper, and believe me I suck when it comes to diapers, but I’m learning! I can’t wait to show off some pictures, until then, THANKS!! and GOD BLESS….. Joel

Helps give the child stability and security

Issues of legitimacy should they ever want to get the child into a church school?

Issues of inheritance?

In olden times, and I am not sure if this is still the case today, if the parents were unmarried then the fathers name was not permitted on the birth certificate and they had to put Father unknown - I believe there was a case in 1982 where a soldier who was killed in the Falklands conflict was not going to be put on the birth certificate of his fiancée's child by him, because of this rule.

And already I am aware of some on this forum who are in the same position, and maybe they could tell me if it is still the case that the father's name can not go on a birth certificate if he is not married to the mother, or if they have scrapped that rule.
