the aftermath of super saturday

Eight national finals on one night... What are the odds for ending up with some good old controversy, and some steamy gossip? Eurovision.tv looked into the most juicy stories...
Leading story across Europe is the victory of Dustin the Turkey in Ireland. What is "the last option for Irish success at the contest" for one, is a "terrible disgrace for the other, serious competitors in the Irish national final" for others. In an interview with the fan site Esctoday.com, former Eurovision Song Contest winner and jury member Dana, said: "I think if we treat the Eurovision Song Contest as a joke, we should pull out. Otherwise it's disrespectful to the many countries who take this seriously and to whom winning the competition means a great deal". She also proposed an alternative way of selecting Ireland's Eurovision Song Contest entry.Earlier, she already said that she "doesn't blame the turkey," but that she "does blame the turkey's who voted for it." Press agency Reuters described Dustin as an "unlikely ambassador for Ireland's rich musical tradition."

Meanwhile, on the other side of Europe, controversy striked the Romanian selection once again. Plagued by several pull-outs and disqualifications, the writers of the winning song face allegations of plagiarism! According to fan site Eurovisionary.com, the Romanian broadcaster composed a committee to investigate the allegations. Nico & Vlad Mirita performing Pe-o Margine De Lume won the competition, gaining 271 points altogether.

No Eurovision Song Contest without gossip, rumours and a scandal each now and then. Fortunately, it wasn't all about the scandals this weekend. For example in Croatia, where Kraljevi Ulice finally won the national selection after several attempts over the past years, and in Iceland, where top favorite Euroband won the ticket to Belgrade. This weekend also brought the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest a wide variety of music styles, from a classic ballad in Poland to traditional europop in Iceland, and from turkey-flavoured disco sounds in Ireland to DJ-mixed dance from Bulgaria.

With nearly half of the 43 participating countries left to pick their entries for the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest, there is not even the slightest chance of predicting possible winners yet.

i was thinking about dustin last nignt, don't get me wrong he is a great perfomer and that was a great perfomance!!! but think, if he was in the X Factor final and won against leona becuase he was funny and a great perfomer, its not right is it. there will be some fantastic singers that can perfomer really really well in the ESC and i dont think its fair!

ireland is much better than that! but i still love dustin and i love the song! he just cannot sing to save his baby chicks

but may i also add eurovision isen't fair! so good luck dustin! i just thought you can do much much better than a turkey!! thats almost saying theres no other talent in ireland so were sending a turkey! but the thing is theres FANTASTIC TALENT IN IRELAND SEND SOMEOE TALENTED!

but apart from that i love him!

Eurovision.tv to stream Greek national final!!!!

im really happy about this because my mum has her soap on another channel at the same time!!!

Eurovision.tv's esctv will stream the Greek national final for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest live online, in cooperation with broadcaster ERT. Tomorrow night, three artists will compete for the Greek ticket to Belgrade.
The show will be hosted by Betty and Mathilde Maggira.
The Greeks will follow the same format as last year, featuring three artists. Chryspa, Kalomoira Saranti and Kostas Martakis will compete for the ticket to Belgrade. The winner will be decided by a professional jury and televoting.

Tomorrow, Eurovision.tv will bring you a full story on the upcoming event.

so if you want to watch too help yourself you may not understand what they say but there will be a commentator comentating in english ( i think?) so its worth a go! lol

GO GREECE!!!! <3

I don't know if you have already read that but there are security issues about the contest.
After the elast week's events against the US embassy in Belgrade, the national TV channel and the producers don't know if the contest will take place in Belgrade.
If not then Finland will host the show but it has to be confirmed if the contest will be aired from Belgrade or not.

Oh No!

i hope its in belgrade!

It just seems complicated because the producers and the national TV channel can't, at the moment, confirm there will be no incidents towards the crowd or anybody else.

Ps: A big LOL at the Irish entry, it's so ridiculous. :laugh3: That's why I don't like Eurovision, at all.

It is a joke, it's like "Worst song of the year" contest. It can't be taken as serious, there are no talents at all in the competition. I think in these shows like X Factor, they should add as a part of the the winner's prize, the right to join the Eurovision contest. The level of the competition will raise a lot more. But it would work if all the countries do that.

Malta take the contest very seriously and have been soo close to winning, they came 2nd a couple of years in a row. winning would mean so much to them since it is a tiny island and the eurovision would bring massive tourism to the island. Go Malta.

Each participant will sing one song. A jury and televoters will decide who will represent Greece at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.

Chrispa - A Chance To Love
Kostas Martakis - Always & Forever
Kalomoira - Secret Combination

Here's some infomation about greeces posable entrys

The 22-year old Chryspa released her debut album at the age of 18. In the past years, she released four more albums - the latest one last October.

Kostas Martakis is 23 years old. He started his career as a model and took part in Dream Show, a TV reality show. He has released one CD, Anatropi. Lately he represented Greece in the New Wave Festival where he finished in a joint 4th position.

New York-born Kalomoira Saranti, better known as Kalomoira, is 22 years old. She was the winner in the popular talent show Fame Story in 2004. Her debut album, Kalomoira, became gold. Kalomoira appeared in one of the longest running soap operas in Greece, before hosting a morning show. Her last album appeared in 2005.

Art director of tonight's show is Fokas Evaggelinos, who also had the artistic lead at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens.

The final will be hosted by the sisters Betty and Mathilde Maggira.

Greece has been successful over the past years - in 2005, Greece won the contest thanks to Helena Paparizou, her team and My Number One, in 2006 and 2007 Greek representatives finished top-10.

With Secret Combination, Kalomira Sarantis will represent Greece at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. That was the result of a long national final, broadcast live from Athens earlier tonight.
The Maggira Sisters (FANTASTIC PRESENTERS) hosted the live show, which didn't only feature last year's Greek Eurovision Song Contest representative Sarbel, but also the 2008 representatives from Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Romania and Slovenia.

It's a nice song, very impressive. It can't be worse than last year and this year, the public didn't chose the entry....and it's better this way.
Good luck to Sebastien even if we already know an eastern country will win because of politic reasons. That's why I really don't like this show.

It's not a fair competition, this contest want to show off new european countries in order to make them involved in Europe. It's like "Yay I won I'm truely a european country". So countries like France, Germany, Spain, Italy etc can't win at least not for the next 5 years.

I think there's restrictions on which languages the songs have to be in.

Even so, I don't think it matters. English is the language most commonly regarded as the most-used (though not demographically) in the world, and a lot of its music, and American music, filters into European music charts anyway.

Andy Interview!

Earlier in March, Andy Abraham won the show Eurovision - Your Decision, with the song Even If and will go on to represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest Final in Belgrade. Eurovision.tv's Glen Webb caught up with Andy to discuss his thoughts and plans in the build up to Belgrade.
Eurovision.tv : Can you begin please Andy, by sharing a little about your background, how big a part music has played in your life and what projects you were involved with prior to appearing on the X Factor talent show in 2005 in the United Kingdom?

Andy :"Well, music has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember. There are so many great genres i've experienced like Ska, Big Band, Soul, RnB, Reggae, Lovers Rock, Jazz Funk, Fusion, Pop, House Music, Garage, Rap, Rock, Heavy Rock , that's enough for now, so you can see i've been busy. I think my first interest in music came at school, when me and some friends would get together and make up songs for fun, but that faded when school finished. Some years later my sister joined a band and got me involved, but my interests were on having fun and not music. Then, sometime down the line whilst working as a printer, I started taking part in singing competitions, and even though i never won any i always got to the final, so i figured maybe i did have a voice. Then, while still working as a printer i did a tribute act base on the Lighthouse Family called Houselight Family, catchy yes, but due to tragedy i decided to leave my job as a printerand go to music school. I was only there for 9 months, where i met two guys and we formed a group called Tru-Mix, we wrote about 30 songs, nearly got ourselves a big independent record deal, but due to unforseen events, it fell through, and that's my musical journey up until the X Factor."

Eurovision.tv : At what stage did you decide to apply for the X Factor show?, What were the reasons for the timing? Did anyone encourage you to apply, or was it your own conscious decision?

Andy : "I have to admit, I had no intention of doing the X Factor personally, my wife watched the previous year where G4 and Steve Brookstein took part, and after asking me if I would consider doing next years X Factor, and with my answer of no she still decided to forge my signature on the application form and entered me in to it!. Thank god she never listens to me!."

Eurovision.tv : You only narrowly lost the X Factor final by a small percentage of votes to Shayne Ward back in 2005. What did the appearance on the X Factor help you to achieve musically? What have you been doing in the past years since your X Factor appearance?

Andy : "Yes you're right, I only missed out by 1.2% of the votes, and to this day i still think the 2005 X Factor was by far the most naturally entertaining show there has been. After the releases of My Impossible Dream & Soulman albums, a nationwide tour followed all in the space of a year. I felt then that it was time to start writing songs again,to prove to myself i could be involved in the creative side of music. For the last year i've been creating an album that i would be proud of, an album of songs that have so many musical influences."

Eurovision.tv : How did the decision arrive to enter a song to try and represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest?

Andy : "I got a call from the BBC, asking if I would be interested in doing the Eurovision Song Contest, and once I had heard of their interest,I somehow knew Even if was the right song to enter."

Eurovision.tv : During the first round, so called experts decided that Michelle Gayle's song should qualify to the final round ahead of yours. How did you feel at that point? Did you still have faith that Terry Wogan would select you as the wildcard finalist?

Andy : "You know, I think music is just a matter of taste, and i'm so glad that Terry Wogan has good taste hahahaha!, to answer your question I didn't feel sad at all because the audience seemed to love the song anyway, and i felt i had made a good impression on the judges."

Eurovision.tv : The United Kingdom has suffered poor results in Eurovision of late, only one top ten appearance in the last nine years in fact. What do you think the reasons are for this? What do you propose to do in order to reverse this trend in Belgrade?

Andy : "Who knows for what reasons we havn't done as well as we'd like, but one things for surei'm gonna make it very difficult for the judges based on my performance and song i hope!."

Eurovision.tv :Finally, do you have any plans for the next months prior to Belgrade to promote the song? When is the single to be released? What does the rest of 2008 hold for you Andy after Belgrade?

Andy : "My plans are to finish recording the new album by the middle of April, and to promote the single Even Ifin the United Kingdom and as many countries in Europe as possible. I'm looking to have the single released around 2 weeks before the Eurovision Song Contest show. The rest of 2008 will consist of a tour ,the release of my third album, maybe a further single and more touring but whatever i'm up to you'll be the first to know!."

Eurovision.tv would like to thank Andy for the time spent on the interview, and also thanks go to Paul Piggot at LaDigit for his help with the organisation of the interview.

I agree and Dissagree!

I agree that the perfomance that kalomira done to get into eurovision lacked something explosive! The comments from people are saying Greece is the underdog atm but there performance might give them the crown!

I agree... Not bias or nothing
