We have a soap ratings thread and a Big Brother ratings thread so I think we should have a ratings thread for all those other TV programmes out there.

Basically if a show doesn't get good ratings it is axed. Ratings show how popular a show is and help decide how much advertising slots in between shows go for.

You can't judge how POPULAR a show is yourself.

You can however judge how good it is.

The higher the ratings, the more advertisers and money broadcasters get for letting those advertisers advertise on their channel e.g. if Harveys wanted to advertise during Loose Women and Dancing on Ice, they would have to pay a whole lot more to advertise during Dancing on Ice because a lot more people watch so people are more likely to see the advert.

It must be embarrassing for ITV to have News at Ten finish fourth

I watched Ladette to Lady last night as well, it was a lot better than BB :joker:

No, I mean, I know what they are for, but I don't understand why people care about them enough to have a whole thread for them.

Because it's a part of the show too, I mean, that means everything for the producers. You know, many people are interested about it, it shows how much the show is popular (or not)

TV producers are more concerned with ratings than the programs, in fact they couldn't give a stuff about the programs as long as its providing high ratings so it brings in money and it can be recommissioned so they don't have to think up new ideas.

I'm not exactly a fan of ratings, but I can fully understand why people want to discuss them because the higher ratings are then the higher the chances of the show returning for another series. It also reflects the success of the show.
