View Full Version : are you worried about your daily salt intake

I say this as I am munching on a packet of Walkers crisps and was looking at the back of the packet.
it says 'SODIUM* 0.2g PER 25g PACK' and '*EQUIVALENT AS SALT 0.4g PER 25g PACK'
Salt is 'sodium chloride' so why separate the two on the back of each packet, the mind boggles :eureka: well mine does.
Btw, it says that our recommended daily intake of salt is 6g for MEN and 6g for WOMEN and 4g for CHILDREN 5 - 10 YEARS OLD. When I have chips which is quite often I tend to put loads on, big mistake you think? Im only 20 so perhaps its not so bad as someone who is elderly

Its funny but I tend to put much less on when Im having a gravy dinner than when Im having just a simple fishcake and chips or burger and chips, then I kind of go mad. Plenty of pepper to which I love to bits ACHOO! ACHOO! ACHOO!
I'm a bit worried about mine. My food always looks like its been dropped in compost then in chalk I put that much salt and pepper on mine

I'm starting to. I always just looked at how much fat products contained, I never really worried about salt. Then I watched that Jamie Oliver show...changed my life.

To be fair, I only do that when I'm eating crap, and Sunday dinners which is half and half, but more pepper than salt with gravy. I tend to eat healthily most of the time so its not really a problem

I used to smother my food in salt. I now only use it when cooking. I don't add it at the table. With pepper i am the other way round. I used to hate it. Now I can't get enough.

Its almost a pun that. You can make yourself sick by adding salt to a drink of water apparently. Dont fancy trying it lol

Well I'm not exactly worrying... but I do try to put as little salt on my food as possible. :)
I'm not a particularly salty person anyway. Sugar is more my thing. :spin2:

I'm terrible - I don't even give it a second's thought. In fact, I don't tend to think at all about what I eat. I realise that's bad though, especially considering how conscious everyone has become about what goes in their food (which is of course very reasonable).

I don't really care about my salt intake if it tastes nice it goes into my mouth.
