What'd you think about it?

When you can get fake fur, its kind of pointless killing animals when the same effect can be achieved without killing it. However, I am for using animal fur and skin when the animal has been primarily killed for food because more uses are coming from it and it seems more worthwhile to kill it. But I am strongly against companies who kill animals, strip their fur then dispose of the rest. I think its a waste.

To use fur as a fashion item is selfish and cruel.

But what really gets my goat is when celebs turncoat.

In the late 80's Madonna was very verbal on being anti fur, she went jogging in hype park while here on tour and always wore an anti fur message on her t-shirt saying "Fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly people."

So why does she now wear fur and is even taken to wearing mink fur on her eyelashes... yes thats right.... her eye lashes.

Take Naomi Campbell was sacked from being a PETA representative after she wore a full-length mink coat at a Milan fashion show.

Its shocking at what some animals go through:

The shocking footage from a recent investigation into the Chinese dog and cat fur industry reveals the slaughter of millions of dogs and cats that are bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and strangled with wire nooses so that their fur can be turned into trim and trinkets. Their fur is often mislabeled as that of other animals and exported into the United States, the European Union, and other countries, where it may be sold to unsuspecting customers.

How many fur bearing animals are slaughtered for one coat?

To make a 40 inch fur coat, it takes about:

200 chinchilla
45 opossums
20 foxes
50 muskrats
125 ermines
40 raccoons
18 lynxes
20 otters
100 squirrels
35 rabbits
16 coyotes
8 seals
60 mink
30 rex rabbits
16 bobcats
15 wolves
50 sables
25 skunks
12 silver foxes
100 hamsters*

*Shop found making jackets with lining made out of fur from hamsters
and abour 100 hamsters were killed for each jacket.

I think it's truly disgusting. Animals are already killed for food, and now they are being killed for clothing. What next?

Kiz that quote on how they're killed is truly devastating and cruel. I can't believe people go out and willingly kill like that.

I think its disgraceful, animals should not be killed so that ignorant people can look good. Animals need it to stay warm and safe what do humans need it for? I think its terrible that animals are harmed and abused all for the sake of selfish, ignorant people!!!

the problem with the fur trade is similar to the meat trade. cows/pigs/lambs are slaughtered so we can eat their meat; if we choose to be vegetarians; it won't make the slightest bit of difference. the animals would have been slaughtered anyway.

just imagine how much meat wastage there is. so much so; you would hardly believe it actually. I'm not just on about (out of date) meat; I'm on about meat in butchers and supermarkets and even those who supply to them which ends up being wasted. anybody's one man/woman crusade to try and prevent cattle being killed for their meat is doing it all in vain. the slaughtering shall go on for ever; as sad as it may seem to some.

I have said in my first sentance (the fur trade is similar to the meat trade); not-exactly-the-same. because animals get killed for their beautiful fur; then after the fur has been made into a coat; the coat will hopefully be sold to a customer; probably for a hefty price.

Animals will continue to be killed for their fur; even if a few hundred people choose to buy (fake fur) instead. all it shall mean is that there will be plenty of unsold (real fur) coats awaiting customers; more-than-likely sitting in storage somewhere. but if they build up too much and the buyers become less; then those (real fur) coats lying dormant in some stock room may come on the market at a knock down price. somebody shall buy them; as there is still a market for them.

personally I think it should be a crime to kill animals for their fur; made totally illegal (worldwide). we are no longer living in the dark ages; (fake fur) coats are available and they are equally as good as real fur; so whats the point in needless killing?

I say (kill the fur trade) and (stop killing the animal) but my little voice won't get heard (neither will most of us) by those who have a business to run. the fur trade is a business; a very profitable business which makes quite a few people very wealthy indeed; at the sad price of the animals life.

singer; jane wiedlin entitled her second album (fur). she chose that title for the very same reason;

1. stop killing animals for their fur
2. (refer to question 1)
