According to notorious gossip rag National Enquirer, the Dirty Dancing star was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the end of January, which has spread to other organs, and has been receiving chemotherapy in California. From BBC News:

American actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, his agent has confirmed.

His agent said reports that the Dirty Dancing star had only five weeks to live were "completely untrue".

The 55-year-old is currently undergoing treatment and is continuing with his filming schedule, he said.

Swayze, who also starred in the hit film Ghost, was diagnosed with cancer more than a month ago, the New York Post reported on its website.

Let's hope that his recovery goes smoothly, the magazine who said he only had 5 weeks left to live sickens me. Completely out of order and shameless.

Such a shame but sadly cancer doesnt discriminate over who it attacks, star or not!

Pancreatic cancer is a nasty, nasty cancer to have. Often you dont get symptoms until it is well progressed, by that point it is incredibly difficult to treat. Sadly the pancreatic cancer recovery rate is pretty poor. It is "often" linked to heavy drinking and I am pretty sure he had issues with alcohol many years ago. Such a shame for him, he really has a battle on his hands now.

The survival rate is 5% if I remember correctly.

I hope Patrick keeps strong and recovers, it's sad. My aunty was diagnosed with that cancer earlier this year, can't believe that the survival rate is only 5%.

I didn't realize that the survival rate was even as high as 5%. I thought that pancreatic cancer was pretty much a death sentence. Who knows, he may have more than 5 weeks to live, but if the reports are true, it probably won't be much longer than that. :(
