My Grand dad has it, he can't even dress him self now, you say things to him and he doesn't remember it 5 minutes later.
It's heart breaking for my dad because he doesn't even remember who his kids are.
He's had 2 strokes this year, almost losing him twice.
I don't have any other Grandparents, he's the only one i have left and he doesn't even know who i am :(.

He's had it for 8 years.

She cant really remeber who any of us are and i probably spend the most time with her  its horrid because ive lived with her all my life and shes always been the one helping me and now its the other way round. I cry so much about it but i try not to anymore. She has a carer twice a week and my auntie comes down too look after her for 3 days in the week. And i look after her on Thursday and Monday and Friday afternoon  x

I am so sorry to hear that your family members are afflicted with this horrible illness. It is just such a cruel thing for anyone to have.

My friend was on the phone with me only an hour before I came on here which is pretty ironic now I am talking about it here.

He tells me how his father just doesnt know where he is sometimes and those in the room with him, his wife and son are strangers to him so I must guess that he gets confused and just hits out. But maybe your nan might be different hopefully. It can take different strains

I could sitting in a room with her and ill go out for 5 mins and come back in and she'd think i was another girl. Shes now scared of being alone in the dark shes crying right now because she dosent want to go to bed (it really is like going back to childhood). Unfourtunatly its me that has to put her to bed so its horrible having to sit here and listen to her crying  x

This may not be much help for those who have this, but this research (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7326839.stm), seems to suggest a way to protect against it.

Meanwhile, this organisation (http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/index.php) may be of some assistance to those who have relatives affected by this condition.
