Muslim call to adopt Mecca time over GMT
Muslim scientists have argued that Mecca time should be adopted because Mecca is the true centre of the Earth.
At a conference held in Qatar, under the title: "Mecca, the centre of the Earth, theory and practice", one geologist was of the opinion that unlike other longitudes, Mecca was in perfect alignment to magnetic North.
He said the English had imposed GMT on the rest of the world by force when Britain was a big colonial power, and it was about time that changed.
I don't really know enough about the subject to comment objectively on the scientific validity of what they suggest. But I don't see too much wrong with GMT, and although there is no hope of this suggestion ever coming to pass, I still rather resent it. What do others think ?
