Muslim call to adopt Mecca time over GMT

Muslim scientists have argued that Mecca time should be adopted because Mecca is the true centre of the Earth.

At a conference held in Qatar, under the title: "Mecca, the centre of the Earth, theory and practice", one geologist was of the opinion that unlike other longitudes, Mecca was in perfect alignment to magnetic North.

He said the English had imposed GMT on the rest of the world by force when Britain was a big colonial power, and it was about time that changed.

I don't really know enough about the subject to comment objectively on the scientific validity of what they suggest. But I don't see too much wrong with GMT, and although there is no hope of this suggestion ever coming to pass, I still rather resent it. What do others think ?

If they want to take on a new time in Mecca then who am I to mind. After all, loads of other cultures and religions have there own calenders with their own new years and the like.

If however they are suggesting the world takes on a new time system then they can cock off. I like my watch too much to change it.

Let them have theirs and we will stick with ours.

Personally I think they've got a point.

No way. Im not Muslim, I have no wish to have this happening. Its not fair, anyway, It could work out that at 2pm for us we will be in total darkness. They can just get lost. They suck up to their religion to much and it would bve forcing other religions to adapt anothers custom.

"It's us and them is it?"

As in "us" who quite like our system and "them", who want to change it? Sounds fair to me.

But as I say I don't know if they want the world to change or not. If all it is, is a name change then it is no different the the French having CET.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Theres nothing wrong with the current system and everyone is used to it.

I find the muslim religion to be quite extreme in some ways, why change the time to ther "special" time because how it is at the moment is perfectly fine.

If they want to adopt Mecca time for themselves then that's fine but it's wrong to impose it on everyone else. It would ultimately serve no purpose changing it though I think.

I have had enough. If either of you starting picking fights with each other, leading each other on then I will issue one or both of you with a warning. You know who you are.

I suggest you put each other on ignore.
