THE salary of crisis-hit Channel 4’s chief executive almost DOUBLED last year – despite the Celebrity Big Brother race row and quiz-show scandals.
Andy Duncan took home £1.2million while the channel lost £7.8million – its first deficit since 1992 – its annual report revealed yesterday.
His 2007 deal included a £450,000 loyalty bonus for staying for three years. It came as station chiefs warned spending on programming would probably fall this year.
Channel 4 chairman Luke Johnson defended the pay, saying it was agreed in 2004.
He added: “Salaries at Sky and ITV are substantially bigger.”
The station was fined £1.5million in 2007 over phone-in cons and rapped for breaching broadcast rules over Celebrity BB.
