View Full Version : Constructive Posts

I've noticed the amount of posts which are using just one or two word replies or just a smilie have increased.

Really, what's the point in posting a reply if it's not going to be constructive for the forum? Posts with just one or two answers don't really give anything to the forum and may as well not have been posted.

I thought this should be brought to people's attention in the run up to Big Brother 9 as I understand that a) Admins and mod's don't like it and b) If it didn't happen then the forum would be much more interesting.

Moan over.

I have to disagree to a certain extent. Its not quantity , its quality. Who cares if someone replies with a post that simply says 'Thats funny' or 'Lol'? I think we have better things to be worrying about. Just another example of people taking this forum too seriously.

Theirs some posts that go on for hundreds of words , each one as full of **** as the last. Pick on them instead I say.

Then theirs the basic question thread , with members not knowing , so they just reply 'No' or something. Now THATS annoying. Why bother letting us all know you dont know something? Its idiotic. Nothing but a badly disguised attempt at post whoring.

The "Yes" and "No" thing was the bit I was thinking about when I was writing this thread. I don't mind the "That's funny" or something similar to that.

Theres a certain member who constantly posts irelivant videos and pictures in threads and posts things like' nope, sorry' and 'no' to advice/questions as well as many other posts that don't move anything on and/or are funny.

I see what you mean then. And completely agree. Or , in a few lesser words...

'Yes' :joker:

I have a feeling that admins/mods just associate one word posts as a bid to increase post counts.
If you are a one word poster, then unless you're going to post something constructive then please don't bother posting at all as it's annoying..

I think we all know who we are talking about in this thread. One of TiBB's most "extreme" posters as they put it.

Yeah. In fact , I think its so obvious at this point , some people may want to edit their posts to make it less obvious before said member turns this debate into another thread about himself.

I couldnt help myself. It had to be done. I didnt want to be the one to do it - but I was. I feel dirty now. I feel disgusted in myself.

If you dont mind, I'm gonna go scrub myself with sandpaper.

Bad, Arneldo!

Sometimes it's irrelevant and uncomfortable to read. However, with one smiley or one word, you can be easily understood but since it's a forum, we do not expect someone to post one word as an answer. I don't see how you can share your views by one word, just give arguments, try to debate.

But I still think when you have a funny video, I can't see how you can write 5 lines about it or can say much that 'lol it's funny'.

i have to disagree. i only like to read short, quick posts, and i often cant be bothered reading someones post that goes on for half a forum page. id rather read something that's relevant and quick than longwinded and tiering.

I can understand the frustration but can't see any easy solution, its just a fact of life sometimes one word is the best answer.
Indeed sometimes ... you say it best when you say nothing at all

Now that could be made into a song title hmmmmm i wonder.

LOL!
Sometimes you are having a conversation in a thread, and its rude not to reply, but you cant think of a proper response, so you just put a smiley or summat

Although if its a thread like

"Isnt Bob a fool" and you write an essay on it
and someone replys with
":dog:" then ye can get annoyed

It doesnt really bother me to be honest, i think everyone should have their say whether it is a one word post or a 500 word post.

You need to have a balance, i.e. giving your opinions where relevant but not going on and on if not necessary. To be honest, I don't think people put that much thought in before they post (as in... 'should this be long or short?') - they just type what they have to say and that's the end of it. But I think since abolishing post count in Chat&Games, the posting for the sake of it has gone down - I used to post smileys and stuff and they counted.

You see the point I am making here is although I agree(and feel the need to say so to show overall what we all think about any subject),
One or a mere  word may have been deemed pointless but a just to say I agree without the right to use one word has turned into a bloody long winded and quite frankly boring answer like this one, which if I'm not careful will have everyone falling asleep.

Then what will I do for the rest of my day?

Yep, good point Ash :laugh2:

Yours was about "pointless threads" in general, and was in a thread of itself which you deemed yourself to be pointless.

This is about posts imparticular, and is in the correct section where things should be done about it.

Also, Matt08 posted this in April so yours would've been a replicate anyway if it had the same point (which it didn't).

I closed your thread because it was deteriorating into arguments and personal insults against yourself which I thought were unfair, though, rather than it being about the thread itself :spin2:

But the thread did have a point, and the point was pointless posts like "ZOMG I saw Freds willy <.<"

and people started dissing her writing style, her personal writing style, which she is identifed by

Which means the thread went off topic

But this is why I closed it. There were unfair insults against Nicky and it was offtopic anyway. Plus this thread here now is from April.

It was kind of out of order for everyone to just have a complete go at me ..

(and Thanks Lauren for closing it) x

All having a go about x's was stoopid - It wasnt a post to have a go at me about me!

I think the subtle difference is your title. yesterday your title was "Utterly pointless threads" this has been called "Constuctive posts"

Ones a negative (looks like your more annoyed than you might be) One is positive (does not make you look as annoyed as you might be)
I dont think you got bitten but perhaps it may have been again the tone people percieved by the negative title.
This has not been nodded with aproval, but because the tone is subtley more positive its opponents are not so defensive and are instead using sarcasm instead of bold objection.

Either way my response has been the same on both threads.
I also thought it was worth mentioning which you did very well yesterday.
