We have heard the very sad news that yesterday our member Romantic Old Bird has passed away. As some of you knew, she had been ill with terminal cancer and was diagnosed six months ago. We had known her on TiBB since its beginning in 2001 and aswell as being a close friend to many of our present and former members, she was a much loved member of the TiBB family.

Wendy was a great person, very articulate, intelligent and engaging, both when you met her and in her writing. She was a fantastic writer as you can see from looking back at her posts and the wonderful, witty stories she wrote.

She even had her own area on the forum called 'ROB's Little World' where she could post her stories. Everyone used to look forward to the next one and her posts must have been one of the reasons I started posting on these forums in the first place. Even when writing about her ill health she retained her characteristic positivity and good humour.

I personally think back on all the fun she brought to the forum and also when I met her at a BB final in 2003. They were great times.

We will miss her very much and I send my best wishes to her family.

I can only echo the sentiments of James on this really sad news. Wendy was one of the original members back in 2001, and really was a driving force in making TiBB what it is today.

I met her twice...once at the 'TiBB Meet' and once at the BB Final and both times she was the life of the party and was as friendly and caring as a person can be. I remember the moment where she reached out and touched Dermot's hand just after BBLB had aired live and how happy she was :)

Wendy posted in the admin forum after hearing the bad news that she was being brave about it, and I know for sure in her last few months she got the things she wanted to do in life done, and spent it with those that loved her.

It's a real shame, and I do hope she is now at peace.

- Mark

Like James and Mark, I too met Wendy in person. It was in 2002 at the one and only TiBB convention in Manchester. Wendy bought me a drink and for her karaoke did "That old devil called love" or something along those lines.

We also corresponded over TiBB

Wendy also had a way of inspiring others, just like James refers to. I remember when along with other members one time they decided to go on a fantasy trip to where her favourite couple were at the time. They posted in the style of the KGB, so I posted in the style of the CIA. On posting a picture of the eternal flame in Arlington Cemetery ROB suggested I start my own threads dedicated to cemeteries. Which I duly did, and dedicated it to ROB. Ever much the way she was, Wendy did not take any offence and even became a contributor to that thread and movingly wrote about a trip she took to a World War One cemetery.

Wendy was a much loved character all round here and on Malachi Cush from Fame Academy forum (http://malachimad.xmbforums.com/index.php) and will be sorely missed, especially by those of us who had the privilege to meet her in person.

RIP dear ROB........

I never got to meet Wendy but felt I got to know her here on these forums over the years. She made me laugh with her funny little stories - what a great writer and such a fabulous, witty imagination.

She shared with us in the "Admin Section" how she had been diagnosed and popped on when she could to tell us how she was responding to treatment. She always seemed so brave even though she knew she was dying.

This really is quite hard news to take in even though we were prepared that one day we would hear of her sad passing - I will miss her.

This is such sad news, I knew she had cancer and this is still saddening.

ROB was a very charismatic lady who always knew what to say. She had such a wonderful vibrancy about her, even when she was talking about her illness she would sound so upbeat and lighthearted.

She had such a sense of humor and I fondly remember her passion for Paul and Helen from BB2 and especially remember her wonderful dry comments on Maxwell and Saskia from BB6 being chavs and having lots of little chav's as offspring.

RIP ROB, you will be sadly missed

Wendy helped me through a terrible time in my life. She gave me such support, and encouragement during my illness.

When I knew she was dying, I let her know exactly how she helped me and how I have come through the other end. I only wish I had met her in person, and told her face-to-face what she did for me.

I think the world is a sadder place without her, and TiBB just a little bit less of a community.

God bless you Wendy.

Oh Wendy would have so loved reading your lovely posts. Thank you all for your lovely messages.

I met Wendy through TiBB and although I haven't posted on here for a long time now I contributed a little bit to Wendy's wonderful posts about Helen and Paul back in TiBB's early days. She always called me Bunty the bold.

Wendy and I had some wonderful times together and great nights chatting on msn. We went on holiday together several times and used to meet up for days out together. Every day with Wendy was fun filled. She was such a warm giving person and I loved her so much.

She was such a talented person and her early death is a tragedy to all of us who knew her and I know she will be missed by you her cyber friends too.

Rest in Peace Wendy, we will miss your sense of fun and your wisdom.

Sticks mentioned that Wendy posted on Malachi's forum too and so I put up a photo of her with him a few years ago.

Love to you all, Jan xx

I heard this news earlier today and was so, so very sad.

Like James and Mark have already said we heard about Wendys illness in TIBB towers some time ago. Even though we knew that Wendy was dying I dont think any of us ever really expected her to die if that makes sense!

Wendy was such a wonderful member and one of the reasons I stuck around after joining TIBB. She had a nack for making people feel welcome and part of something great. I always enjoyed reading her stories, I think her mind was an amazing thing.

Wendy I hope they have those big old plasma screens in heaven, you were so happy when you bought yours.

Sleep well Wendy, heaven is richer and we are much poorer without you.

This is truly upsetting news. You just never expect to hear things like this about members on a forum you know so well. Since I joined almost 2 years ago, I was lucky enough to read some of her posts. I only wish I got to know her personally, but it's nice to hear the memories of some of you who did and knew her well.

I never knew of her illness, so she was clearly a fighter and battled through everything with a brave face.
Best wishes to her family and friends. May they stay strong and cope with this. RIP Wendy. xxxxxxxxxx

This is very sad news. I think in the towers we all thought she would go on forever even though we knew the end was inevitable.

Wendy was a lovely person. Funny and witty, intelligent and wise, and creative and talented who made the best of life even to the end. The little messages she left in the towers told of an incredibly strong and courageous women living her last months of life to the full.

Wendy worked hard behind the scenes as moderator but more than this as one of the early members of the site help shape TiBB into the wonderful site it is today with her posts.

Wendy touched a lot of people on the site with her magic and I like many here will miss her and hope she is having as much fun and she did on TiBB where ever is now.

Good lucky Wendy and rest in peace.

What could I add that hasn't already been said.
When I first found out that she was ill I talked to Wendy about it and couldn't believe just how strong she was.The thing that was always so special was her sense of humour and even when she was soo ill she managed to retain it.She told me she'd had a wonderful life and was blessed to have had a very loving husband and a family that she was proud of.My thoughts go out to them all.She injected such life and good humour into all her posts right from the start and was always a source of amusement. She was a very intelligent special lady and a good friend to many of us.I'll miss her very much as I know lots of others will too.

Rachb popped next door to Absolutely Brian to tell me the very sad news about Wendy(ROB). Like me, many or our members that knew ROB will be saddened to hear she has passed away.

I smile now remembering the early days after BB2 when there were some heated discussion between the Helen, Paul and Brian fans, when many of us didn't see eye to eye, as is the case now with each series.
However as the years have rolled on we have all either mellowed, or realised there was only a small family of BB2 fans still around on the forums, and we bonded together to chat about our favourite year and defend it as a series against subsequent shows. I am sure ROB wherever she may be now will still be telling everyone how brilliant BB2 was, especially her favourites Paul and Helen.

My condolences to all the family, and her close friends on TiBB.

R.I.P. Wendy.

Wendy and I shared a great admiration for the whole H/P thing.

She let me know about her illness back in October, and I was heartbroken.

Perhaps we should remember her great, witty posts, rather than a sad demise?

Can we send flowers or a card? I don't have an address so would rely on others, if possible?

Very saddened by this news. Like many others I enjoyed her posts and followed her stories, it's the end of an era for TiBB.

I remember a few of her posts. But never spoke to her directly. It seems she will be dearly missed by those who new her, well it must be because it seems like a whole TiBB reunion in this thread with all the old-school TiBBiers posting, half of them I have never seen. It seems there is more to a forum than just gossip and argument, sometimes there are very special people.

I had word of Wendy's death from Jan ( Bunty the bold) whilst away this weekend.

I 1st met Wendy through Jan and have many happy memories of our 'girls' activities together as well as many happy nights chatting on MSN.

Anyone who knew Wendy will know how true the sentiments expressed here on TiBB are. The words used to describe her tell exactly how well liked she was and what a HUGE character she was too. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Goodbye old friend. Look down on here and read all the wonderful post written in your honour and of the memories you have left us with. Your talents as a writer will be missed but your friendship and kindness will be missed more.

I understand that today is the funeral, which I am told is a private family affiar.

I suppose after this we will probably need to move on.

I was looking for a poem, and as "Stop all the clocks" has been done

I picked this

Remember
Christina G. Rossetti 1830-94

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Good bye farewell, Adiue Mon Amis

Shirley (Boris) and I are just back from Wendy's funeral and what an 'event' it was. The church was packed with friends, family and all her colleagues from the various hospitals she'd worked in.

Her family had arranged that all the music she loved was playing as we went into the lovely old church she knew well. Vincent was played and Fields of Gold, two songs we both loved.

Her coffin was made of wicker and covered in pink bows and flowers, all very ecological and very, very, Wendy.

We all went up to the front of the church and lit candles in her memory and for all the people we'd lost but the emphasis was very much on thanksgiving for her life and the lives she'd touched.

Her two sons gave a fantastic eulogy. A joint effort, very poignant in parts but also very funny. They have certainly inherited her sense of humour.

We left the church to the playing of Coldplay's 'Fix You'. Very appropriate for a woman who had spent her whole working life trying to fix everyone whom she came into contact with.

It was a sad but uplifting day.

Bye bye, Floss old bean. R.I.P.

Love Bunty xx

Jan has said it all in her report of the day.

It was a WONDERFUL thanksgiving service , full of the wit and charm that Wendy herself would have enjoyed so much; but also a day full of emotion.

It was a privelige to know Wendy and also to be there to share that final day with her family and friends.

Love to you all.

Goodbye Wendy, wish we could have 'fixed' you too.

I cannot put into words my feelings for my dear friend Wendy. Such a loss to everyone. My heart goes out to her dearly loved husband, sons, daughters in law and grandchildren. I know she felt it was important to say goodbye to them all properly and I hope she had the chance to do so.

I have so many memories of Wendy, not least of many late nights sharing hopes and worries about those two BB lovebirds as was Paul and Helen. We even spent an evening in Nottingham putting the world to right as only we knew how as far as those were concerned.

Wendy brought so much happiness to everyone she touched, both at work and in her home life. Her contributions to TIBB will never be forgotten - anyone who read her little stories would leave them in tears and laughing at the same time. A very special lady!!! A big  for her up there.

Just seen this myself, and although I didnt know the lady I wish to add my condolenses to her and her loved ones.
Although the cause of her passing is scary to consider with my presant circumstances, reading her tributes here has made me stronger knowing so many do care, and that care will always make Wendy remembered and treasured forever.

For some reason I was thinking of the famous poem, Stop all the Clocks by W H Orden, made famous by the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, and it reminded me of Wendy

Is there anyway we can honour ROB as we finally say goodbye to her and 2008, the year she died by making her a posthumous member of the Hall of Fame?

Apologies for the thread necromancy, but we were talking about people we miss on another thread, which prompted my remembrance of Wendy in this post (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9254424&postcount=785) there

I will once again let this thread sink back down to the depths.

It is nearly nine years and still we miss her
