View Full Version : Davina McCall quits Big Brother to be an actress (Article)
BIG BROTHER House, this is Davina —I've decided to McCall it a day. Please do not swear.
The reality TV presenting queen will quit Channel 4's BB hit to launch a serious acting career, we can reveal.
The chirpy host, who has been evicting celeb wannabes since 2000, will dramatically reinvent herself when the ninth series ends in September.
Mum-of-three Davina, 40, has ditched her previous management to kick-start the turnaround, which will begin with a serious acting role in a major TV drama.
Her new agent is Michael Foster, the man behind Billie Piper's transformation from bubblegum pop kid to top British actress.
A source close to Davina told us: "She has finally realised the time is right to move on.
"After doing so many series of Big Brother, she's become seriously bored.
"She's very excited and convinced that Michael can turn her into a serious actor."
In recent months, even Channel 4 has refused to give Davina—who also stars in a TV hair dye ad— work outside of Big Brother. It was rumoured that bosses also believe the best of her presenting career is behind her.
So last month, Davina decided to cut ties with her long-time agent John Noel. He's her closest link to Big Brother and has also shepherded the careers of Dermot O'Leary and Russell Brand.
She has made one attempt to move into acting before—flop ITV sitcom Sam's Game in 2001. It was canned
Last night, a Channel 4 insider confirmed: "Davina has had to make some very hard choices. There is an understanding at Big Brother that it's very unlikely she'll be back.
"How many times can she keep on saying, ‘Big Brother House, this is Davina. You are live on Channel 4. Please do not swear.'? This really is make or break time for her."

Well well well - the annual "Davina-is-quitting" rumours have resurfaced. Do you think they're for real this time?

Hmm...on one hand I think "This is the NOTW, it's probably bollocks" but on the other, she has been around for a long time and I'm surprised she'd want to stick with it...it must be quite boring now.

She loves the show and has said she will never leave unless sacked. These are just the stories about her quitting from last year with a lie about acting added onto it.

I hope it's true - it's what BB needs, and it's what Davina needs - and although I'd like to be heading into this series with a complete fresh start, including new host, it would be great if it is a success and Davina can go out on a high note. She's done the show proud, but it's time for her to move on.
As for replacement, the safe choice would be getting Dermot back in to take on the main role, and his X Factor contract is after this year, though it wouldn't really clash anyway, so he could easily do the both.
Holly Willoughby I think would be a favourite - she's itching for a major show of her own, and with Dancing on Ice she's Big Brother's neighbour. And with her it's as simple as if the ratings get low, just lower the dress!!!
Only other serious candidate I'd consider ATM anyway is Lauren Laverne - a BBLB regular and a very capable presenter who'd bring something a bit cooler to the table than Davina and most the other names you could mention.

I don't want to believe it, and nor do I actually believe it anyway.
Davina said she would not ever leave the show unless she was sacked. It is 'her baby'. She certainly doesn't fake her love for the show, she wouldn't just forget it for a career which may flop.

B*ll*cks, BB is her career, if she quits she can wave bye bye to it. To be honest, I couldn't give two hoots if she did leave, but she won't.

She has been confirmed for BB9 so no worries about it.

Davina makes BB. Anyway, She wouldn't risk quitting such a big show for a possibly failed career.
it says says shes quitting in September when BB9 finishes so TBH is be suprised if she didnt quit...

Davina must stay!
I hate to say it but to be honest I feel that Davina has just lost it in the last two series. I wouldn't be supirsed if she quit at all. The show needs to be freshened. If it survives untill BB10.

Both have got to think long term. BB isn't going to be around for ever, and Davina needs to make sure she's got a plan - and it's best for her to make the move now rather than wait for BB to be axed.
Similarly, Davina can't host it forever - if BB were to end in a couple of years, I'd love Davina to front it to the very end - but I don't want it to end in the next couple of years, and to be blatantly ageist, Big Brother isn't a show that should be fronted by someone in their mid-40s.
The show now needs to look to the future - and a new host would do just that - just think how much new life replacing the host has given the show in Australia. Regardless of what happens in their current series now, the future of the show seems more secure than it has done for a number of years.

Yessssss!! finally she's leaving!! She's bored, we're bored and she can't present any more. If you look back at any BB5 or BB6 evictions she's 100 times better than anything she's done from BB7 onwards.
Now to find a replacement... I don't thin a man would suit presenting it (On his own anyway) And they need someone young, jumpy, bubbly, hyper and attractive, so perhaps look through all the new female presenters in in the UK

Love her, I really do. But part of me thinks that maybe the time is right. Nine years, thirteen series. That's a long time. Like Brekkie said, she has done the show proud and has stuck with the show no matter what, and has defended it.
If this is true, and I dont think it is, then I will look forward to seeing Davina do one more series, and wish her luck in her acting career.
It would be strange seeing somebody else take over, but if I had to decide I'd say pick somebody like Holly Willoughby would be perfect. She has proven herself on 'Dancing On Ice' and it would be nice to see her front her own show, instead of being in the shadows of somebody else.

As if more chance of it raining cats and dogs.
I don't think Davina will quit. She might want to become an actress but I don't think she'll quit purely based on the fact that this rumour pops up every year.
If she was to quit then BB wouldn't be the same for me because I really like Davina and with the mangle () she is the only thing to stick with Big Brother from the very start.
For a replacement I would not like a male presenter. Because we have had Davina for so many years, I've come to think that the show needs a presenter who is experienced but still getting on a bit with a presentation style similar to that of Davina. Kate Thornton instantly fits the bill. I like Kate but by using her, there would be no point in Davina going in the first place because they are practically identical. Like others, I'd like to see Holly Willoughby present it. I've always liked Holly and I've followed her career from the start. She is deserving of big things and something which will continue to throw her into the public eye rather than Dancing on Ice for 10 weeks a year.

Davina will NEVER leave Big Brother. The only way she'd leave is if she was sacked, and then she'd be going kicking and screaming.
By the way, great video Matt!

Sorry but I would HATE Holly to present the show, however I love your suggestion of Lauren, she would be perfect! Holly is far too kids-tv for me but Lauren would be great, very funny and witty and well matched with this show.
But I doubt Davina will be leaving any time soon, I got a bit tired of her during the last one but I think she does a great job and it would be weird without her. Anyway I'd say if she was going to leave it would be after the 10th series because that would be the perfect time to go.

davina is, in my opinion a brilliant host however the past two years she hasn't been that good with her interviewing skills and poresenting alltogether. I don't think she will leave but c4 should give her a co-host, male or demale i don;t know but let me know what you think

Daily Star covered it today too!
artical below
BIG Brother host Davina McCall will reportedly quit from the show after it completes it's ninth series this summer.
The 40-year-old has hosted the show since it started in 2000, but it appears she now feels the time is right to move on.
And in a further shocking turn of events, she wants to leave presenting behind to become a serious actress!
To help her, she's taken on Billie Piper's agent, who has turned the former pop star into a TV sensation.
A source said: "She has finally realised the time is right to move on. After doing so many series of Big Brother, she's become seriously bored."
An insider at Channel 4 said: "Davina has had to make some very hard choices. There is an understanding at Big Brother that it's very unlikely she'll be back.
"How many times can she keep on saying, ‘Big Brother House, this is Davina. You are live on Channel 4. Please do not swear'? This really is make or break time for her."
Davina had previously announced she had signed up to front the show for the ninth time.
So they essentially copied the News of the World?
I still don't believe it until it's confirmed by Davina.

Surely she's not quitting to become an actress. I saw Sams game. She can't act.
Matt, you rock!
And we always get rumours of Davina quitting but that's all they ever remain, rumours.
