Education Question

Okay.
Basically, I'm in yr11 and about to do my GCSEs in a week's time.
My school doesn't allow any study leave whatsoever.
We will have nothing before the exams.
Then when the exams take place, we have to go straight to lessons afterwards and complete a full school day.
Exams go on for 2 months [may/june] so this obviously means, no chance of extra revision at home which will help me more than sitting in a classroom being distracted by mates and talking bout the last exam.

I was wondering if there's any sorta... law, rule or even a loophole that means I can legally leave school now [I'm sixteen so I could leave school now] and go back JUST for my exams?
My dad's like. furious?
&he was considering phoning up the school to tell them that I'm only going in for my exams but he didn't want the headteacher to be like 'well, he can't even come in for those?'
He's only been headteacher two years.
and the year before us got study leave.
as did all the years before with the previous headteacher

I would actually learn more at home than at school.
&I'd actually study.
My super nice head of year that'd listen to me is away.
and all the teachers I trust at my school have left during this year because of the headteacher.

I really don't know what to do and could really do with some advice, or information, which would probably help more.

I doubt if you was conveniently 'ill' they would care because you are in year 11.

There are no laws saying schools have to give you study leave but out of interest did last years year 11 get it?

I was considering the 'ill' idea but I disregarded it.

Yeah, last years got it.

Find someone from last year and see if they got told the same. It happened to us. They said the government had put a ban on study leave and pupils had to just go off timetable for their exams. A week before they all started we had an assembly and got kicked out.

Their reasoning was that they didnt want us planning a rebellion of some sort so dont give up hope just yet.

Schools don't have to give you study leave, my school wasn't going to do it this year because it affects their attendance records but they changed their mind and let us have it.

We get study leave, some teacher told us that our headteacher found a loophole and we just go back in for exams.

Write a formal letter and attach some signatures to it. Just explain how staying off will boost grades because you can focus on subjects you are weaker at etc.

If that happened over here,there'd be outrage! But our exams do start after school finishes(school finishes end of May,exams are 4th-20th of June). I've never heard of any school not hvaing any study leave.

If I were you,I just wouldn't go in.

a petition signed by year 11 students would be a good idea:cheer: most year 11 would sign it i think they'd prefer studing at home! if that doesn't work u could always go to the doctors and get signed off with stress of exams and school work for a few weeks! :wavey:

I'm in the same situation as you, my GCSE's start tomorrow and we're not allowed any study leave atall. So we don't actually leave until everyone's exams are over, which is late June. But it is optional if the school decides to give you study leave or not. Some don't give it to students because they can tell that the majority won't use the free time for studying.

We tried a petition once in school, everyone who had signed it and the person who had created it got into heaps of trouble, luckily I didn't sign it.

You dont have to be in education when your 16; well you do but they cant force you to stay, if you dont want too.

Darenn, as for not allowing you to do your exams, I don't think they are allowed and would actually do that. Last year in my school a few people got expelled around January but were only able to come in for their exams, so either it's illegal to not let you sit them, or my headteacher just decided to be nice, which I doubt because she's a bitch.

I'm sure it would be illegal, since he'd be messing up my future?

My mum spoke to the headteacher of the school she works at today, and they gave her a number for the education board because she seems to think something should be done too.
