BEFORE I START.
I'm a HUGE fan of Jesse.
I've got both of his past two albums, and eagerly anticipating the next one, whereas I couldn't care if I ever heard Leona again.
so obviously I'm biased.

but IMO.
his version is much better.
Obviously, he can't really match Leona's vocally.
but for a male, he shows outstanding vocal ability and has a beautiful falsetto.
ALSO, you can hear a lot of emotion in his voice [afterall, he DID co-write it]

Therefore, I'm addicted to Jesse's version.
I wouldn't care if I never heard Leona's again.

not expecting anyone else to like it since TiBB is like.
Leona-dominated.
but otherwise.
opinions?

I personally prefer Jesse's.
For me, it's more than just the vocals.

I'm glad he's released his interpretation because I've always wanted to hear it.

I loves it.<3

leaving the fact that Leona has a better voice and that she puts wayy more emotion in when shes singing. i think its for the best that Leona got it.if Leona didnt get it then it would have flopped and this song is amazing so it doesent deserve to flop.

xDramatick
08-05-2008, 08:45 PM
Glad I ain't the only one who prefers Jesse's.

I think the song would only have flopped because Jesse's not well known here, not because of his vocal ability.
I'd disagree with the emotion? Jesse wrote it about Katie Cassidy and how he missed seeing her when he was away that it'd 'cut him open' and he'd 'bleed love' for her? [can't remember where I read that though]
I guess it's hard to say as we haven't seen him sing it live.

Arneldo
08-05-2008, 08:48 PM
No, but we have heard it recorded, and Leona's recorded. I personally think there is no competition. Leona has more vocal talent in his little finger then Jesse has in his whole body. However, he is obviously a very good songwriter.

But surely you can't deny that vocally Leona is of a much higher standard!

Obviously.
However.
It shows a superb vocal considering he's male, what with the falsetto and showing off his range.

&I agree that he's a great songwriter
But I still prefer his to Leona's.

It's an okay version but the production and vocal on Leona's version are far superior.

He sounds so nasal. He might as well sod off and buy some Vicks vaporub ASAP.

1. He had faith in it, but it didn't suit his musical direction. If you listen to clips of Departure, it actually wouldn't fit in with the style [considering he was going for a Prince/Michael Jackson sound]
2. Would have gone nowhere because he's not well known here.
3. Sold it to Simon/Leona after hearing about HER talent.
4. He didn't want it back. It's just a bonus track on the australian version of the album.
5. Why would he want to "spong" [dictionary plz] off Leona? Wouldn't it be the other way round seeing as SHE'S singing HIS song. Not the other way round?

gameset&match plz.

2. No thanks, its called an opinion.

yeah but this isnt a matter of opinion.somone either shows emotion or they dont.thers no "opinion" about it.

I dont really think you're getting it, as it's all a matter of "opinion", IYO, she performs with great emotion, in mine, she performs like a cross between a wailing cat dragged through a hedge, and a cardbox box, so yes it is an opinion.

so you think a wailing cat being dragged through a hedge shows no emotion??hmmmm this just proves my point that you need to look up "EMOTION" in the dictionary.

LMFAO NOT REALLY. Its all a bit BLAH, IMO, (thats in MY opinion). It just all sounds the same. And no I dont i know what an OPINION is. #

lo read my last post again

No I odnt think SOUNDING like a cat being dragged through a hedge shows emotion. BEING a cat dragged thorugh a hedge, yes but not sounding like one.

is that acceptable enough?

you said ...."she performs like a wailing cat being dragged through a hedge".

Ohh yeah. I meant to write sounding like, it was cos you said about seeing her perform live

and tooperfect I didnt say that atall?

I like Jesse McCartney but i think this version is a bit dull, it's missing something i think. It's lacking a hook i think.

Dreadful. Pure dreadful. Leona's is so much better, if Jesse released it I doubt it would of done well here I mean, nobody knows him really..

That has got to be...the worst song i've ever heard

It sounds like one of them stupid remix songs which makes the artist's voice sound high pitched. Dancing in the dark style...if you get me?

It's really bad.

Don't like the actual song itself but prefer his version rather than Leona's, I just generally find her annoying and when she performs she has no stage presence.

Darenn, no disrespect but you have to come to terms with the fact that Leona Lewis is just MUCH better than he ever could be!
