When I am back for good in the summer, would anyone here be interested in taking part in some sort of short story compertition?

I know members like Sticks, Chewy, TooPerfect, Darenn and proberlt many more are very creative.

If someone else wants they can do it, as I would like to write!

EDIT....

Ok, Someone else can run it if they wish, I wouldnt mind beinga competitor instead,

It could run two ways...

1. We add a story, say under 2000 words and then everyone votes for their favourite, crowing us a winner.

or

2. Each week we add part of a story, and each week, one writer is removed from the game. They then cant finish their story untill a winner is crowned. This is more competion.

I'd be interested but it would all depend on how busy I was, I'll probably be able to drum up an idea if this goes ahead.

What would be the rules?

What would be the criteria?

I did wonder if we could add a special fan fiction award to the annual TIBB awards

We should ask Corkie!

Yeah, or maybe give a individual award like the winner of say NTM gets.

I suppose it would need to be under a certain amount of words, and thats it. Unless we did very short storys/or parts of a story each week, and run it as a competition so each week someone was voted off, and we dont get to see the rest of their story?

I have been thinking about the next Mystical Realms Saga, but I am not sure if what I do counts as a short story as it is serialised.

You could do a special one-off episode with new characters

But that stifles creativity? especially with people like me who do these in serial form.

Aye true...
I have no idea what I will write

Is there any point in me starting my next saga if I am not allowed to complete it due to a vote?

So is Magic proposing that if we are working on a creation, and a vote is taken, then the person "voted off", has their thread locked by a moderator, even if they were not declaring to be in the competition.

As I said earlier, I was working on my next saga, but if I will not be allowed to complete it, because of this "competition" and "voting off", there is no point me starting it now, and I might as well pull the trailer I had constructed. Please let me know, so I can amend the various threads here and delete the file from YouTube if that is how we are going to go.

No sticks, i proporly wont run it, but it could run to ways.

1. We each submit a short novel, eg under 2000 words.

or

2. Each week we each submit part of a story/novel, and each week someone goes. The members vote for their favourite story, say along with a judge. After the competition you could submit all of your story in one thread.

Does anyone have a preference of how it would work?

It could be like, you could give a genre every week and then we write a story to match it.

i'd probably say the first one, the second could be quite time consuming depending on how long each installment has to be.

Are all posters in this Fan Fiction section to be considered in this competition whether they want to be or not?

What was wrong with the original idea of adding a special section to the annual TIBB awards at the end of the year?

If there must be a competition, could not the competition entries be single stand alone single episodes, allowing those not taking part in the competition to do their serialisation without their threads being locked by popular vote?

This is a seperate idea. We each make stand alone stories to enter. Those that one to enter, can enter.

I suppose it would have to be stand alone, so as we all understand it.
Under a certain amount of words
And unseen on the forum before.

And those doing their "normal" sagas out with the competition would be free to do so, without the threads with their creations in progress being locked due to some popular vote related to this competition?

It did come across to me that all submissions in this section were to be involved in this "competition" whether we intended to compete or not.

No, this is a seperate thing.
I think it is best if we each just submit one short story and the favourite is voted for.

So what is happening on this now?

Is it going ahead with entries being stand alone single episodes?

Hmm, this could be fun. There's a couple of problems with something like this though:

The main problem is how few people here that seem to have interest in writing? For contestants that's fine as too many stories would just be too much on a TiBB members attention span but in terms of the judging I'm not sure how it'd be done as most the people interested I guess would rather be writing than judging. If it was a "public vote" then I don't think the majority of TiBBers could be bothered to read through 1 short story, let alone multiple ones.

Otherwise, I think this could potentially be done, it would just need a lot more interest.

I think Ukt was going to something similar once...it could have been poetry but it didn't happen, not sure if it was lack of interest....I agree it needs a lot of thought to make it work properly

Unless you incorporate it into the annual TIBB awards
