Ofcom, the broadcasting watchdog, said it had received 120 complaints from viewers since the ninth series of the Channel 4 reality show started last Thursday.
Most viewers contacted the watchdog about bad language and bullying, with others complaining about scenes in which one contestant took her clothes off and jumped in the pool.
An Ofcom spokesman said: "We will be looking at all the complaints and will launch an investigation only if we think the complaints are properly justified."
The latest series of Big Brother got off to a shaky start with ratings for the launch night down by one million on last year.
The opening programme drew an average audience of 5.2 million last Thursday, peaking briefly at 5.9 million mid-way through.
By contrast, Big Brother 8 launched with an average 6.2 million viewers and a peak of eight million in 2007.
Last night's episode pulled in 3.2 million viewers, around the same as this time last year.
The new series features 16 housemates, including the show's first blind contestant, radio producer Mikey Hughes.
A Thai massage therapist, a female bodybuilder and a Girls Aloud reject are also among the hopefuls.
For the first time, the series features a couple.
Mario Marconi - a Sylvester Stallone lookalike who was christened Shaun but changed his name because he prefers to sound Italian - is dating Lisa Appleton, a tanning product sales rep.

Its BB what do they expect and everyone knows swearing takes place so why are these people watching?

Don't people have anything better to do than complaining that someone jumped in a pool?

In my opinion, showing any signs of bullying, racism, swearing or nudity after 9pm, isn’t a bad thing at all. If the viewer has a problem, simply don’t watch it, simple as that!
The whole idea of Big Brother was a social experiment and to see how a number of people who are complete strangers to each other would cope living together in a totally different environment that they would normally be used to.
The show reflects how different people from different backgrounds socialise, or not, how they react to different events or people or even living in somewhere completely out of the ordinary. Bullying and Nudity are just some examples of what is happening in Britain today. It’s sort of like an show that has a hidden secret message. This is all going on in Britain today. Like the Race Row in CBBB, we all know that people get bullied, especially regarding race and culture, but it’s all crammed into an entertainment package to make it enjoyable.

If they don't like it then don't watch it.
It's a simple as that, no point complaining!! Millions of people enjoy watching it.

I basically agree with Liam except I'm not sure I'd say it's 'enjoyable' to watch people being bullied or abused... Fascinating admittedly, and if people's conduct on the show helps highlight social behaviour that's basically unacceptable (and subsequently comes in for public criticisim) that's a good thing....
But complaining about nudity and swearing? Tha's Bleek!

What idiotic reasons for complaining. It's Big Brother, not Buckingham Palace - of course there is going to be swearing.

Ofcom, **** off! All you do is ruin every British TV show on after 9.00pm. I hope you're office blows up with everyone inside.

I think it's funny, cuz if this was shown in the US all of the cussing would be censored, as well as the nudity.

But have you seen the US live feeds? They are far more vulgar than anything the UK HMs come up with. When you consider Emily got kicked out completely for jokingly saying the N-word, and some US contestants have said worse on a daily basis and made it far with no warning.

I've actually never watched the US Big Brother. But for some reason here, it's like the internet is open domain, but something like Janet Jackson's nipple at the Super Bowl is like the end of the world. It really doesn't make any sense to me. Just like music videos can show girls in thongs all over MTV, but a complete naked backside is unacceptable.

Not on Showtime. They show everything, every night, unedited, on television.

Well yeah, Showtime, HBO, that's a whole different story. But Big Brother is on CBS and that wouldn't fly.

BB in America is a joke! It's like watching a movie. All spliced, music added, dramatic effect, etc. Everyone looks like models. Such a boring show.

No wonder it gets so many complaints and such a bad reputation, these days they just keep putting in scummy chavs and letting them loose on each other. It's not good television really.
This programme used to be so much better, many years ago.

That is ridiculous! I cannot believe people are complaining about swearing and nudity, if the show is on at 10pm (and the nude scene was aired at near to 11pm).
People need to get out more.

These people piss me off, ****ing stupid do-gooders.
The show built most of its fan base by nudity and band language. If it bothers them that much why do they watch?/

OH for godness sake! complaining about someone jumping in the pool???? she had her knickers on! its not like she sat at the pool side and spread em'! Folk must know there is gonna be some nudity involved...what are folk just not to have fun...undress...play games for like 94 days???
I can understand people complaining about matters such as bullying, racism and alike.

I do not like to watch people being abused by others, but I would not complain as it is kind of part of the show - BB, though, has to take control of these situations.
You see worse things just walking on the streets anytime of the day!

I do and don't agree with people complaining swearing and nudity doesn't bother me it's what i expect from any BB show but when it comes to the bullying and aggresive behavior and i'm sure there was a little racist attack in there last night i do think ppl have a right to complain. I personally don't watch BB to see that kind of behavior.

Haha, I can't disagree with you there. I think that's why I'm really enjoying BB9. Definitely different than any of the shows I've watched over here.

Spot on. Ofcom so called independant Ofcom is simply a tentacle of suppressive government control freakism.....Regardless of political party they are all as bad at having organisations that pander to the late Mary whitehouse and Jon Beyers control freak dictatorial mentality.
If people want to complain to Ofcom they should complain about the existance of an organisation that can allow a handfull of people complaining out of a population of some 60 million which can result in that handfull along with the government stooges at Ofcom dictating what the masssess are allowed......Disgusting hypocrytical organisation which should be disbanded and the Ofcom enforcers jailed for crimes against freedom of choice..

The majority of people who complain to organizations like Ofcom, probably need cranes to get their obese asses out of their houses. :laugh2:
