the americas i think is used to cover the whole area from north to south. Canada does fall into the americas. England is in europe and canada is in the americas.. But its known as north america and south america that makes up americas.

It all stems from the US calling itself America when no other countries in the "Americas" do.

So saying, "Not America, Canada" might seem confusing but they mean America as in the US.

I'm from the US and to my knowledge Canada does not define itself as America, only North American (when referring to the whole continent).
