View Full Version : Song you want played at your funeral?

I know this is a rather morbid topic, lol, but is there a specific song you want to be played at your funeral/wake?

Perhaps it's a sad number, or something that epitomises you? Or maybe it's something more upbeat to try and cheer people up?

I personally have never thought about it. I'm not sure, to be honest.

Spice Girls - Goodbye.

I love the song. Ginger was my favourite Spice Girl aswell -- I know the song wasn't about her (so they say) but it's in memory of her.

I hate talking about funeral songs =|
My boyfriend sent me a song his favourite song of all time [Great Gig In The Sky - Pink Floyd] and then was like ''it's my funeral song'' and I was just like 'don't. you'll make me cry =('

AS FOR ME
I'm not sure.
Maybe Radiohead - Street Spirit.

Countdown theme tune.

Seriously. Everyone thinks I am joking but I have told both my parents and my boyfriend that when I being cremated that as the curtains close on the furnace the conundrum song plays.

That, and "Could it be Magic" by Take That.
Everyone's invited. Party of the year.

Anyway for me I want something ****ing depressing like I want everyone to cry. I hope they will because they will miss me. If they won't I will really be pi$$ed off.
The song would be The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony.

Had me fallin asleep after a minute, it would'nt make me cry but it would stop me going to any other funerals thats for sure.
If I played this till the end, I'd probably end up at my own sooner too.

On a sub-topic of this, what do you reckon is the most inappropriate song to play at a funeral?

[Just so we don't feel too depressed]

I'd say Mousse T - Horny?

That is total BS Hallelujah is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and is very moving. This Imogen Heap version by not be by fave (jeff buckey will always own it sorry) but she is a wondeful singer and has keept it nice and simple.

When my coffin is being taken to the front by french midgets then I want Take That. When my coffin is at the front after speeches etc I want Backstreet boys. And then countdown when I'm in furnace.

Also, you're male - you're not allowed to die first cos I refuse to be a widow.

Went to my friends funeral about 2 months ago, they played 'We're all in this together' because she loved musicals, and Johnnie Fiori, the actress from Hairpray in london sang 'I know where i've been'.

I seem to notice that all these songs feature in the o.c  So how about Jeff Buckley-Hallelujah??

My mum wants a gospel group to sing that 'oh happy days' song. Seriously. And my friend wants Greendays time of your life.

Ive never thought about it. I think i'll make my 'guests' sit in silence and grieve for their great loss.

I have 3 already chosen, even though I am only 23.

Petula Clark, Downtown.2 versions one at the start and one at the end,(her original 1964 recording and her new slower version she released in 2013).
That song is my own personal anthem.

Simple Minds, See the Lights.
The Calling, Our Lives.

Kodaline - Everything Works Out in the End

I never seen it coming
I couldn't read the signs
And now I know that it means nothing
But you are always on my mind

You got me treading on the water
'Cause I've never learned to swim
Now I know that it's all over
I better learn to start again

The DR Who theme as I really, really like it, and even if I am gone and won't hear it, don't see why everyone at the funeral shouldn't be made to listen to it :hehe: also the updated version of Over the Rainbow, and Fields of Gold would be nice :)

Loving the idea of the countdown theme tune.

"They're coming to take me away" is definitely one to consider.
