Thought i'd start a thread about the upcoming Wimbledon..

Nadal's looking impressive in the Stella Artios, He's just about to play Djokovic in the Final. I know grass isnt his best surface (clay is) but i have a feeling he'l beat the mighty Fed this year..

Anyone else agree?

I like Djoker aswell. He has a big chance also.

I reckon whoever will win this match between Djoker and Nadal will go on and win Wimbledon.. :spin:

I'm sure Wimbledon wil be as good as Roland-Garros this year, I was glued to my TV. I didn't even go to school in order to watch it.

Federer's not in the best form lately but we all know how good he is on grass.

I've got a feeling that Andy Murray might actually do well this year if he can stay injury free.

Kore

Oh no Djoker is beating Nadal 3-0!!!

i can see Roddick winning wimbledon this year as i feel that he is bk to somewhat his best and he loves playing on grass

Mike

Can't wait for Wimbledon to start, each year the tournament just get's better & better. Federer wasn't great during the French Open but then when it comes to Wimbledon he plays some of his best tennis. I reckon Roddick/Djokovic will push them but I'm going for a Federer/Nadal final.

Loukas

I always back the outsider in Wimbledon. LOL.

This year i'm backing Marcos Baghdatis

What do people think of him? Do you think he has ANY chance :laugh2:?

Kore

LOL i think baghdatis has lost his form to be honest..

I'd like to see him win though

I am rubbish at tennis but love watching it and ball girled for Stella Artois tennis 3 years ago. I think it will be between Nadal and Federer again but hopefully Murray will go far as well. What date does is begin?

Kore

Starts June 23 through to July 6

Cheryl-cole-hottie

Mike
24-06-2008, 04:37 PM
Was good to see Sharapova go through, good first game, bit of a shaky second game but she kept going and eventually got the win. Venus through as well, played some great tennis as always and looking in good form. In terms of the mens Nadal had a much tougher game than I thought, i know he won by 3 sets but that third set especially was a close one. So far so good in terms of the tennis being played - looking foward to round two.

BigSister
24-06-2008, 04:40 PM
I missed sharapovas first game Mike was at work just caught last set of Nadals but it looked tough i agree

Dan_
24-06-2008, 06:54 PM
Murray through to the 2nd round after a straight sets victory over Santoro.I thought it was a really good start to the tournament from Andy.

BigSister
24-06-2008, 07:33 PM
glad Andy won and theres another guy maybe going through a qualifier hes 2 sets up anyway

Dan_
24-06-2008, 07:42 PM
Oh yeah, Chris Eaton. He's doing well for someone so lowly ranked.

BigSister
24-06-2008, 07:47 PM
yeah him and yeah hes doing well

BigSister
24-06-2008, 07:58 PM
Hes just won ^_^. Well done him

Dan_

:cheer2: I watched the end of the game on BBCi.Got one of the seeded players in the next round.

BigSister
24-06-2008, 08:17 PM
Yeah i think he was henmans nemisis. Scary really as he went to the same school as henman

Dan_
25-06-2008, 03:32 PM
3rd seed Novak Djokovic went out to Murat Safin.Quite a shock but it goes to show that Safin still has a bit left in the tank yet.

1st seed Ana Ivanovic has just struggled past Natalie Sechy.I have to say that Dechy was very unlucky.

BigSister
25-06-2008, 04:24 PM
Yes she was lucky she was one point down from going out
I was quite shocked at safin winning but i thought maybe he had a bit of a chance. Federer is currently playing at the moment

Dan_
25-06-2008, 04:49 PM
Federer looks like he will cruise through again.

Any other shocks today?

BigSister
25-06-2008, 05:13 PM
not at the moment no but theres still time

Kore
25-06-2008, 08:08 PM
LOL cant believe Djoker went out to Safin!
Expected the wins from Nadal and Federer!

Glad Murray won too!

Yay Murrays just won again ^_^

Dan_
26-06-2008, 05:05 PM
Very comfortable victory for Andy Murray. He just seemed very calm and controlled throughout the whole match and everything flowed because of that. He's looking in very good form at the moment.

A massive upset just happened on court one.Former Wimbledon champion and 3rd seed, Maria Sharapova just lost to fellow Russian Alla Kudryavtseva in straight sets.It was a very determined performance from Alla but Maria was well off her game today and just seem to get demolarised at the errors she was making and she never really recovered fully from that.

James Blake just went out and all.

BigSister
26-06-2008, 05:15 PM
I know was very very surprised at Maria going out. Was quite surprised at James blake going out as well a few seeds going out today

BigSister
26-06-2008, 07:13 PM
Now Roddick is now out!

Dan_
26-06-2008, 08:50 PM
Wow.I really think this is going to be the year of the upsets.

Chris Eaton did well despite losing,he was marginally close to winning the first set but it became difficult for him after that.He still showed a lot of spirit to come back from 5-2 down in the final set to get it back to 5-4.I think he's got a lot of potential and it wont be long before he really starts going up in the rankings.I bet he's a bit overwhelmed with things at the moment, going from an unknown playing on one of the tiny courts to playing on court 1 infront of a big crowd with a whole load of support.

BigSister
26-06-2008, 09:58 PM
Yeah ni know what you mean Dan if he was on maybe court 2 or 3 you never know but i think hes one for the future

Kore
26-06-2008, 10:04 PM
I hope Safin or Murray win it! or Nadal.

Dan_
28-06-2008, 06:31 PM
Good win against an expeirenced opponent.I thought things might turn in Haas's favour after he won the 2nd set but Murray pulled it back and then took over.

BigSister
28-06-2008, 06:44 PM
Yeah i got worried at 1 set all but it all turned out good

Jack
30-06-2008, 08:55 PM
Anyone watching Murray and Gasquet right now? They're now playing the final set. Murray pulled back after being 2 sets down, and is 2-0 up in this set. It's a very exciting game.

Dan_
30-06-2008, 09:36 PM
What an epic game that was, fantastic comeback from Murray.I really thought he was being outclassed and expected him to lose in straight sets but he pulled it back and from then on it was pretty much one sided.Best game of the tournament so far.

BigSister
30-06-2008, 10:55 PM
I know i thought he was out for it for sure but he pulled it back. Dont think he can beat Nadal though

Mike
30-06-2008, 11:07 PM
Murray was class, thought that was it when he went 2 sets down but he kept going, won the third set, won the fourth set and then took over in the final set. From what I have seen up to now I think he will give Nadal a good game but can't see him winning. Still think it will be a Federer/Nadal final.

Loukas
30-06-2008, 11:13 PM
Baghdaits was knocked out today :(

But ******* me!! Murray was an absolute STAR! WOW! He was truly amazing!!!! :spin: :spin: :spin:

Kore
01-07-2008, 07:59 AM
omg! i watched that murray match yesterday. I thought he was down and out! How wrong i was!!!! :cheer2:

Can't see him getting past King Nadal though.

Dan_
02-07-2008, 08:28 PM
Murray out in straight sets then.It was always going to be a big test against Nadal but he never played at his best and basically got overpowered.Nadal and Federer are just on another level to anyone else right now.

BigSister
02-07-2008, 08:42 PM
Yeah i agree Dan think its gonna be those 2 in the final

Dan_
03-07-2008, 12:28 AM
I'd be incredibly surprised if it wasn't.Only interesting thing will be to see who wins the final.

Come on Serena and Venus, what a final that would be.

I'm hoping like mad for them both today:thumbs:

Dan_
03-07-2008, 01:05 AM
I'm pretty sure both will make the final.Zheng has done very incredibly well to make it to the semi-finals but I think Serena will overpower her.I can't say I was overly impressed with Dementieva in her last game, she seemed to fall to bits in the second set after Petrova broke back. Her serve seems very weak and I can see Venus exploiting that quite easily.

AngRemembered
03-07-2008, 01:10 AM
Thanks Dan, you seem to know your stuff, unlike me I'm not a great fan just been watching the highlights of these 2 over the years.
They have met at Wimbledon before in a semi, but at there stages of respective careers now it would be wonderful to see them in the Final.
A chance for Serena to gain revenge for that semi defeat too.

Dan_
03-07-2008, 01:25 AM
I've really gotten into it this year.Venus is one of my favorite players and I've watched all her matches in this tournament. They've not shown so much of Serena up until the last couple of rounds but she's looking in good form.I'm really hoping they both reach the final though as it makes for quite a spectacle.

Serena beat Venus two years in a row in the final of Wimbledon back in 2002-2003.It will be interesting to see the outcome if it happens this time around.

Mike
03-07-2008, 01:46 AM
Been a good tournament up to now. Federer & Nadal have shown again what great players they are, both nice genuine guys off court as well as we see in their interviews. As for the womens tennis a Venus/Serena final would be great to watch. On/Off the court their also such likeable people.

Venus has made it to the final with a straight sets victory :cheer:.First set was pretty much a walkover but the 2nd set was much closer but Venus prevailed.

After a rain break, Serena won the first set against Zheng, 6-2.Clement vs Schuttler has gone to a 5th set.

Serena is a very good player, but Venus is that much fitter now which gives her the edge. I bet on Venus and I'm glad she came through because not only did I win my money, Venus actually deserved to because Serena had beaten Venus 5/6 of the last times they faced each other in a Grand Slam Final (5/7 now )

Holy CR4P!

I woke up at 6pm after a nap thinking, "Meh, Nadal must have won the championship by now" only to find out that there was a rain delay final set after Federer just got going to even things up.

Tense final set; wanted Roger to win just so he could have 6 in a row, but Nadal was a more than deserving winner.

My knees were tensing up and my heart palpitating as if I was the one playing. Good game.

Mike

What a match that was. Both played some great tennis, shame there had to be a loser but at the same time nice to see Nadal take his first Wimbledon title. Credit to Federer, not only on his tennis and getting it back from two sets down but also for being a great sport with his comments.

A huge peak of 13.3 million watched the final last nigh
I never knew it was so popular
The final last year only got about 5million so its managed to get about 8million more viewers this year.

That final was just woahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Had an amazing time. Most people wanted roger to win on the hill i didnt i wanted rafa ^_^
Only thing wasthe coach people said once the scheduled matches had finished we had to go back. So some people thought the mixed doubles were a scheduled match so they watched that while everyone else came on the coach and were listening to it on the radio. So if we knew we could have watched mixed doubles i prob would have watched ifinal on hill as the atmosphere was so good
