Viewers have complained to Ofcom about Big Brother’s sponsorship adverts.

The broadcasting watchdog has received several complaints about the "ageist, homophobic and sexist" Virgin Media idents, which are shown during commercial breaks.

However, Virgin Media defended the ads, arguing that they "feature people from all walks of life" and include a humour suitable for a Big Brother audience.

A spokesman said: "They are intended to be irreverent and thought-provoking but also to make people laugh. At no point would we ever want to cause, or encourage, offence.

"Virgin Media is yet to receive a single complaint about this year’s idents, either directly or through Channel 4, but if this happens we will listen to what people have to say, take on their comments and feed back as appropriate."

Virgin Media has been the sponsor of Big Brother since the eighth series of the programme began last summer.

This is ridiculous!

I find them hilarious! especially the Doris and Phyllis one!

''Phyllis uses her Virgin Mobile to send pictures to her lover Doris''

The stalker woman is great as well.

''Calls her ex on the hour, every hour.''

I do not understand however someone could deem these offensive. Its just a bit of fun. Plus, it's not like Virgin are gona go out to try and cause offense when advertising their product.

Some people will go crying to Ofcom for anything nowadays...

Exactly. It's just pathetic and tedious now.

I think I'm going to start a thread titled "What people will complain about next?", so people can offer their suggestions.

I'll get on to that now. ;)

EDIT: Here it is: http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=86334

I find this ridiculous, and if you're watching Big Brother, surely the break bumpers can't be the most offensive part of the program. People will complain about anything these days.

Yeah, said a similar thing earlier.

The only thing offensive about them is they're actually meant to be funny!

They're crap!
