Further to a discussion in THIS (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=86710) thread, I thought it would be interesting to see what the general opinion is in the forum.

One of the housemates refers to women as "bitches". Do you find the term offensive?

I personally don't find it offensive. The vote is mixed already though. It should be an interesting result.

Yes. Put it this way, if a friend called me that, they would no longer be my friend.

Maybe it's because I use it in a joking manner to talk about my friends (male and female) that I don't find it to be offensive.

If I were in the BB house and someone used the term directly at me, then I'd have an issue with it. I think it's one of these things you can say in general, and you can use on your friends, but not on people you don't know very well.

No, I like the term and am always using it.

Depends what context if its said offensivly than obviously but if not then no, all my mates call each other bitches. If its just a joke it shouldnt matter.

As a joke I call my girl friends for worse things haha.

If it was directly to me, then yes. (Unless as a joke).

If it was a general term about women, then no.

I think the housemate in question only uses the term in a general way. I could be wrong, but I don't think he's referred to any of his female housemates as bitches.

I don't find it offensive since I'm neither a woman or a feminist.

However I do find it ****ing retarded as it makes no sense when used as a term of endearment by stupid women. When a man uses it though it pretty much sums up what most women are.

Yeah, I cry whenever it's said

That word is used so freely all the time, that I don't find it offensive anymore.

Sometimes I use it in a jokey context. Sometimes I talk about a close friend and say to him/her "You're my bitch", you know? They don't find it insulting, as they know I'm only kidding.

But if a friend of mine called me a bitch directly and in a serious manner, I would find it offensive. But the word is thrown around so much nowadays I really don't know what to think of it to be perfectly honest.

The word itself would not offend me, its usually the words with it and the tone its spoken that would.

Anyway how would you get on in a pet shop, would we ask for the little Alex in the window perhaps?

Two things to point out: one, your bringing up "feminist", as it's somehow a bad thing. And two, "when a man uses it... it pretty much sums up what most women are."

Thanks misogynist. Run along now.

Of course it is not offensive, when used in the proper context of refering to the female of the Canus Genus
When applied to a human, it is an insult, to those animals of the Canus Genus

In context or out of context words are just words and can only offend if you let them. Free speech is far more important than the sensitivity of political correctness drama queens....

Nope. I use it all the time.

But to quote someone

Freedom of speech does not entitle you to shout fire in a crowded theatre

What do we do then ban the word "Fire".

That is hardly an example of what free speech is about...Is it!!!!You can surely do better than that......

There are better things to get angry about that the words someone uses.
