View Full Version : Is there anyone intelligent in the house?

I liked Jon Tickle, Derek, Eugene, Kemal, Lesley. They were all intelligent and whatever their faults, provided intellect to the show.
What do we have now?
Dale, Darnell. Vacuous with no brain.
Jennifer, Sylvia, Bex: Shallow and common girls who have no depth
Lisa and Mario: What a waste of older housemates. Plastic and transparent.
Rex: Arrogant and dull
Katreeya: Obviously going to win, but such a gimmick
Luke: Token gesture nerd, but where is the intelligence?
Mo: Nice enough guy, but not an awful lot up there.
Rachel: Meh, false in my book.
Stu: Another dull one
Dennis: Seen no signs of intellect or depth from him.
Why not put some intelligent, analytical people in? All they do all day is sit around, talk about who they fance and bitch.
Boring. Where's the debates, the intellectual arguments, witty banter that previous housemates brought us?

I think you are wrong.
Lisa, Ratchel, Darnell and Stu are not dumb. Believe me.

Well fine, but what have they said to make you think that? If I was in the house, I would be talking about philosophy, politics, sociology, psychology, history.....they are a pretty vacuous bunch. I haven't heard one intellectual conversation from them. Any of them.

If anyone in 9 years was intelligent, we would have known it. This is the Big Brother house.

There are only like 2 that are dumb, they are Dale and Bex

Bex is stupid as proved on BBLB but theres no evidence suggesting otherwise about Dale.
Just because someone is dull doesn't mean they aren't intelligent.
I think Jennifer is quite intelligent- she came across in her VT as it.

It depends what you class as intelligence... someone may not be academically strong but this doesn't mean they aren't intelligent

What have they said to indicate that they are not intelligent?

Derek?
Derek wasn't smart. He just thought he was, and because he spoke in a posh accent everyone fell for it. Plus in a house with people like Anthony, Vanessa, Sam and Lesley - it's not that difficult to look smart.

I joined mensa when I was 26, about three years ago, I don't see the relevance though.
I certainly don't class intelligence as academic ability per se, but intelligence presumes some ability to be able to have some sort of conversation of depth.

I find Mario and Lisa to be particularly stupid- oblivious to everything outside their own little fantasy world where Mario is an amazing team leader and has 14 million fans...

they tend to only have fairly below average people in the house.
frankly the silly small talk gets tedious and is devoid of any interesting subjects.:yuk:

yar i can really belive that!
a person who can't even spell fancy
having a conversation "of depth" with somebody is not intelligence, people are all different and if two for instance can't talk about something in depth they are not uninteligent ,just different

It shows how unintelligent YOU are, if you base my intelligence on not being able to spell 'fancy'. I am sure I spelt it wrong somewhere, but it doesn't take a genius to work out that people do make typos, and it doesn't take a genius to see that I am extremely literate and therefore am unlikely to be unable to spell the word fancy.
I AM a member of Mensa (IQ: 138), but I don't see why you had to bring up such a stupid argument, then dispute my honest remark.
When I say 'in depth', I am referring to a number of cultural issues in society. These buffoons sit around and talk about NOTHING all day. There is no way that an intelligent person could sit around and do nothing all day, there would be SOME attempt at intelligent conversation by now. But there has been nothing.

If you're 'dull' and 'fake' it doesn't mean that you're not intellectual. Although you listed Stu, Rachel, and Rex as boring/fake, you didn't provide a valid reason as to why they're not intellectual.

True. Being dull and fake does not mean they are not intellectual. I admit that. But it is more an absence of any intellect on their part that I am referring to. They should have shown by now some willingness to discuss other matters rather than the surface things they have focussed on. I also suppose it is a bit judgemental but I get a strong feeling and get no impression of intellect from the three you mentioned. It is possible I may be proved wrong, though.

Is this thread about intelligent HMs or the intelligence of forum members! can we keep this thread on topic please?
I have to say I am in many ways in agreement with moses. Not one of the current HMs would stimulate me into a meaningful conversation. Is there not a world out there that they have lived in.
I don't agree when it comes to Rachel and possibly Rex though, they seem to have a little more about them.

I studied latin and hated it, and internal anatomy is not my strong point I'm afraid. I can't followm through on your request, as much as I might FANCE (Yeah, I really can't spell that D'OH!) it.
So what this is BB I am watching. There is no reason why there can't be some issues of world politics and other mind stimulating conversations, rather than the vacuous, shallow things we are shown. Why not have a better mix of a few more highly intelligent people, as well as all these dullards. There CAN be a Lisamariomoment, AS WELL AS some intellectuals on the show.

Assuming this is meant as a genuine query, and not an attack of my validity, I will answer. It's quite simple, really.
I was given a book 'Mensa Puzzle Book', by a friend, and it had a test to fill out, split into different categories, testing antonyns, meanings, opposites, etc. I filled it out, and sent it to the address given, with a fee.
That's it. I'm a member, but play little role in mensa. The only reason I bought up the subject, was because the poster who is challenging me sarcastically told me to go and join Mensa, and I merely told him I was already a member.
Book in question:
A second Mensa Puzzle Book (Victor Serebriakoff) (Chancellor Press, 1993)

That I can accept. I admit that editing can play a part. But I still find the housemates intellectually unstimulating. I am willing to admit there MAY be more to Rex and perhaps Rache (but being a teacher means nothing, I am a teacher, and some of the teachers I work with are really thick, believe me!) However, that is still a very small proportion of people, even so.

I was 'exaggerating' but it is a bit annoying that you insist on quoting the last 10 or so replies, filling up half the page every time you just want to add a line onto the end.
