I feel kinda silly asking, but I've trie working out these 'problems' myself and for a few days now I can't:whistle:
So, can someone please help?
1, What is Karma exactly?
2, How does it improve or go down, I noticed I had some then lost it  what did I do on each occasion.?
3, How do I put a new topic in its relevant place
For anyone who can help I'd much appreciate it, especially the topic solution as I cant forever rely on good and quick moderators to always nurse maid me in placing them in the right area, it dont seem fair on them with so many other things they need to do.
Whilst here I would also like to say how much fun this place is, with my husband and daughter both away for 2 months this has been a truly wonderful godsend to gain the company of so many really nice people.
Its also very refreshing and heart warming to read from so many young views and appreciate just how charming and respectful they in general can be.
A well deserved tribute to all those who use the forum and to those who give up there own time to moderste it also, I think you all do a marvelous job.
Thanks and kind regards
Angela

1, it is like a rating system
2, to rate other members you press plus to give them one or minus to take one away, but by taking one away dosent mean it is yours. there has been somone going around takin other people karma of but dont worry, cuz they will bored eventually.
3, all the forum section on the home page there is a sub froum for each past and present housmate
Karma is a system for users to rate other users. Members with 500 posts or more can raise or lower another member's karma once every three hours.
If your karma is raised, it means someone likes you or one of your posts, or if it is lowered, the opposite. However, some (*cough*idiots*cough) go around the forum giving people karma or taking it away from them for no apparent reason.
If you don't like the karma system, you can turn it off. Here's how:
- Click 'Control Panel/Options' in the top right hand corner
- Click 'Edit Profile'
- Find the 'Turn on Karma system to rate members?' question and select 'No' from the drop down box beside it
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the 'Edit Profile' button
As for the thread thing, you basically have to go by your judgement. There are many sections on the board for many things. If the thread you want to post doesnt fit in any other forum, it should go in 'General Chat', or if it's really off topic (such as a forum game, quizzes, questionnaires or off-topic chat threads) then it should go in 'Chat and Games'.

1. Karma is a system that's meant to allow other members to rate the quality of your posts. If someone agrees with your point, or thinks you put it across eloquently - then they will + your karma. For the otherwise, they will minus your karma. However, it's become very petty and people come on solely to minus peoples karma, and more often than not - the people with high karma only have so because of cliques and friends that are in agreements to up each others karma etc.
2. You've probably done nothing. It doesn't really mean much if someone minuses your karma unless you've been outright rude. I'd suggest you turn it off (you can do so in your control panel) so you don't worry about it too much.
3. To post in the right section, you basically just go to the right section and click 'new topic'. For example... if you wanted to post about... Lobster recipes, you'd go into General Chat and click 'new topic'. If you wanted to post about Luke's ears... you'd go into the Luke subsection (you can see them all on the homepage of the forum listed) and then click 'new topic' in there. etc etc.

Thank you guys:kiss: all very helpful, my initial guess on karma proved correct aswell as the reasons why it goes up and down so inconsistanly consistant :conf2:
So pleased now I know where and how to post new threads, thats going to be a great help.
I think I will keep the Karma thingy, just to gauge some kind of referece as to how people percieve me.
However I don't worry to much( honestly) and it will be viewed with a regard to margin of error on both sides of the + and - system, I had noticed this with some of the Eurovision song contest type voting in another thread :laugh2:
Thanks to everyone who helped,
