A big screen adaptation of US sitcom Friends is reportedly being lined up for release within the next 18 months.

According to the Daily Mail, the spinoff has been inspired by the success of the Sex And The City movie.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow are all apparently keen to reprise their roles in the film.

"The box office success of Sex And The City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right," said a source.

"Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions."

The insider added: "What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people worried that Jennifer had simply become to famous to play Rachel again.

"But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again."

Friends aired its final episode on NBC in 2004.

I think the success of the SATC movie has definitely shown them it can be done.

I kinda doubt this will happen as the only confirmation is from the Daily Star and I look on a lot of film sites and would have heard of it.

I read it on Digital Spy, sorry I shouldn't have put DS. But yeah, its probably just another rumour.

As we revealed in this week’s heat, plans for a Friends movie are gathering speed – and it’s now emerged that Jennifer Aniston has finally been persuaded that it is a good idea, meaning that production could start within 18 months. It’s thought that the huge success of the Sex And The City movie has inspired Jen to sign up – so now they just need to make it official. “Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions,” says a Hollywood source. “As the biggest star of the Friends franchise, Jennifer can't help but look at what's happened with Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex And The City film and be a little jealous. What's held back a Friends movie so far is that people were worried that Jennifer had simply become too famous to play Rachel again. But the truth is that Jennifer is finally willing to do it, and she'd love to work with that whole team of actors and producers again. She says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie, and if deals can be made with them, everything else can fall into place rather quickly. In that sense, it's Sex And The City all over again. There's no movie unless you can reunite the whole cast and keep them all happy financially.” We’d definitely be first in line to see the Friends movie, even if Central Perk has to be transformed into an old people’s home by the time it becomes a reality. But what do you think – is it a good idea or not?

I said the other day they should do one.

I think they most definately should. I think it would be fantastic, IF done well.

It could ruin 10 years of amazing TV.

Talk about flogging a dead horse.

I suppose I should be used to movies being made from TV shows but I never will get used to it. Having said that, I think it will be good if they get the right writers so all in all good luck to them.

Last time I read something like this, Jennifer Aniston wouldn't play Rachel again because she didn't want to be known as Rachel forever.
I'm excited and I can't wait to watch it :colour:

Just thought I'd bump this to say its not happening, which I think is good cos how would it work without the canned laughter? They should do some sort of thanksgiving reunion one-off episode and pretend the disaster sitcom that was 'Joey' never happened
