View Full Version : Should people vote to save?

I had an interesting idea. It seems like people love to vote out big characters, but that might just be because they vote for people they notice. If Big Brother instead had people vote who they wanted to save, perhaps the results would be better for those of us who like being entertained. If people voted to save, it would be the ones who weren't really noticeable who got evicted because people wouldn't vote to save them. As it is those people make it far because no one notices them to vote for them.

What do you think?

I was thinking about this the other day, and I came to the conclusion that BB probably wouldn't make as much money from it.

I think that's a great idea, they should have a special week where we vote to save, could have a twist where they don't tell the HMs until they had said who's been evicted... I like it!

People have been asking for this for years on here.

This is one that comes up time and time again. There are at least 6 threads around the subject in the last 12 months maybe more.

As I see it at the moment the system works well for Big Brother and I can't see them changing it.

The whole system including nominations is based around getting rid of unpopular housemates. Changing the system we change the nature of the show and would give the public a tool to over ride the majority vote by the housemates. I don't think this would be best interests of the Big Brother format in the UK.

Interestingly, when you have only two people up then the it doesn't matter what system you use. The result will always be the same. So in tonight's eviction it wouldn't matter what system is used.

if people would vote to save, not as many people would vote, because many people would not care enough about certain characters to SAFE them

but will be the save, voting to save, doesnt make as much difference, e.g people who dont like jen will vote to save rex!
voting to evict, people who like jen would vote rex out!
so its will be pretty much the same!

and how does that work when we get down to the final four - the whole point is us getting rid of someone we don't like bit of a utopian view about saving the one we like - hate is a stronger emotion than love. Sorry dude its a bit a hippy idea

Even if there were two people up, it could still have an affect on the outcome. It's a psychological thing. People vote for those who they notice. So a lot of people vote for Jennifer because she's noticeable. But if they were voting to save they'd still vote for Jennifer for the same reason.

Vote to save would help immensely. Those who disagree just watch the first half of BBAUS this season versus the second half. All of the boring ones got cut in the first half but when they switched to "vote to evict" all the interesting ones started dropping out.

It favors people leaving who aren't noticed, as opposed to those who are noticed for negative things. I think it's at least worth a try, because the interesting ones do always tend to go.

Vote to save would help
Even if it didn't save entertaining housemates it would make eviction nights much more exciting.
It would only really work if 3 or 4 housemates were up for the entertaining one to stay.

Yes they should have a vote to "save" but only if they change the rules so that there are always three housemates up for eviction. When there are just two a vote to save or evict won't make any difference....

More than two up for eviction and it is more difficult for the hate brigade to effect dispropotionately the outcome of the vote when voting to save.... Also makes life harder for the bookies and gamblers which is a good thing as they have a disproportional influence on BB voting results...

At the end of the day the so called public result is not actually that. The public result can only be known if the proportion of multiple voting for each housemate is known....

Under the present multiple voting system it is quite possibl for housemates who have majority public appeal to be votied out by a minority that do excessive multiple voting either because of an intense dislike or to win a bet...

Yep, it would solve the problem that voting to evict has and it would make the votes more even

It would be quite bad. Remember the Best Friends week in BB7. Somehow, Suzie and Imogen stayed in a vote to save againt Spiral and Michael, who were much more entertaining. But of course that could've just been a one-off.

I actually think Suzie was very entertaining (remember when she nominated with automated BB?) but I see what you mean. I think that might just have been because Spiral and Michael were new, though.
