View Full Version : Are you happy with your body?
Rocko

Today's society is more focused than ever on vanity, glamour and unattainable beauty. You're bombarded constantly with the pressure from such high expectations that it's inevitable that you question your own appearance to the extent of wanting to change it just so it resides within the media's personal definition of what is attractive.
So, the lead in question:
Are you happy with your body (including face)?
Is there any part of you that you're particularly happy with?
Is there any part of you that you're particularly unhappy with and would like to change?
_______________
For me, there's a lot of things:rolleyes:. My biggest issue, apart from my honk of a nose which I can't do anything about naturally, is my weed like frame, which I'm just going to spend the summer trying to bulk up. Not insane bulking up, just start to add some definition.
I'm quite happy, but I hate my hair, my face and my nose.
I'm pretty happy with my body though, I wanted to be massive (muscly) at one point but then I didn't want it to take over my life, and I realised big was gross. I'm quite active though (do boxing and stuff like that) and supposedly I'm mesomorphic so I don't really have to do much which is quite good.
My nose pisses me off though. I used to walk into lamp posts when I was little so I've got a bump in it now . I plan on getting it took out at some point ...

Tom - I am glad you realised big muscles are gross! Eurk they look so sick.
Personally, no - I am unhappy with my body. But I am in control of it, so I have to only blame myself for my unhappiness. I'm not largely unhappy though, just would rather it were a nicer figure.
Quite happy with my face etc.
Don't really like my hair cos it's goes frizzy but it's ok.

This is a really good thread Rocko, should dispell a few myths for people at an age where they may, (if trusting the media) be getting overly concerned with what is normal, and non better to get normal people to answer it.
I've always loved my body , as I've always considered it my parents best gift to me so Ive respected it as best I can like any other gift they have given me. I consider it perfect for me and thats not being selfish, but just a matter of fact.
I worry about losing my right breast soon due to inevitable surgery, and like any woman will feel an important feature to my gender has been lost.
However this only makes me more determined to compensate somewhere else, like my face and a ive made a vow that I'll always be smiling more after this opp, as a happy face is ALWAYS a prety one.
I appreciate I won't win Miss World or would ever have come close  but I truly believe real beaty is found when you look at yourself with a good positive attitude and a happy charector.
So even if that fails to impress people at least there will be, always one whos got it right as far as looks go, yourself.
The only thing I'd like to change is now beyong changing sadly, but its a great opportunity for me to get a happier and pretier face out of it all

I am not and I suppose never have been happy with my body. When I was younger I was very slim, then I had 2 children and put a lot of weight on. After a few years of yo-yo dieting which is made all the harder by the medication I take I finally got my figure back to where I was almost satisfied. NOW though I hate my chest which has shrank after 2 kids and isnt as full as it used to be. I also had that little baby pouch as I call it that never seems to quite tone back to how it used to. I have to work so hard to maintain my current weight that I often wonder if it is worth it!
I suppose my best feature is my eyes and I have a nice mouth, they are my favourite features on my face. I dislike the scarring I have around my right eye from a nasty dog bite when I was younger, it doesnt spoil my actual eyes, just to the side of it.
I worry about the obsessive society we live in as I know I am as much a part of it as anyone else. I worry about what I eat and worry about what my family eats. I worry about the effect it has on my body long term.
No, I hate my nose, my body and my bum.
The only part of my body that I really like is my legs and feet.
I need to tone up alot in the Summer.
Meh I dont hate it... I dont love it. Im quite self conscious about it I dont walk around without a top or anything. I wish my chest wasnt so hairy, but hey... some women love that lol. I could lose a couple of pounds and get rid of the beer belly but im just too lazy :D
I used to be alot bigger when i was younger so im not gonna complain about my size, i think im a very good healthy size.

I don't know anyone whose completely happy with how they look physically. I hate my height, I don't think I'm short (5'7) but everyone around me is 6'0 and they got those long legs and torso. It sucks I'm not growing anymore and theres not even an option of plastic surgery (not that I would do it)

I'm the happiest I've been in a few years but there's still room for improvement with my body. I had some extra baggage and lost some, but started on the weights before I'd lost as much as I'd have wanted to, so although I'm not flabby, I could have done/do with losing a stone or so. I'm pretty happy with my stomach, there's no flab on that but my chest could do with toning up a bit.
As for my face, I'm pretty happy with it, providing I don't put on weight then I'm happy with my face. There's no features like my nose etc that are odd or I dislike. I had really massive, pointy ears which I hated but I got them pinned back as I hated them so much, under the knife at age 10. I'd happily get plastic surgery if there was something that later in life I wanted to change about my face though.
My hair though, I hate it, it doesn't grow like a normal head of hair. It grows in such a wierd way that I'm not willing to leave it more than 2 weeks untill I get it cut again, it's horrible.

I'm not that happy with my body at all, I'm low in confidence and self esteem and I'm so conscious about how I look when I go out, I guess there's nothing wrong with that I take pride in how I look but I'm always self conscious with what people think of my appearance.
I'm not fat at all and if I were I would feel even more bad about myself, Im just not happy with my body generally there's nothing I like about myself at all, the thing I hate the most is problem my skin, at the moment its completely clear but when I just have the odd spot or two I will try and prevent from going into school because I don't want people to see my skin bad.

My metablolism is incredible, I can eat all day and stay stick thin...sounds good?
Its hell... its made me incredibly weak.
As for my face. lol.
But in general, I am who I am, I don't want someone to date me for my looks anyways.

Nope. I have however, lost a stone since May 22nd. Im one of these people who everyone says 'omggg you dont need to diet' but I know myself that I really do.
Like a lot of people, I hate my hair LOL. I can't get it right cos of the size of my head. Its massive.
I'm nearly in the 9 stone boundries however, and ALMOST happy.

Um no i'm actually quite confident in myself for a 14 year old lol, i love my hair and my eyes, i have spots and i hate them but at least i know they'll go, in time. I don't mind the shape of my legs, they have hairs but i just wear tights and i personally don't think i have OMG SHE'S SO GORGEOUS kind of looks but i could definately be worse lol
I'm a little on the small side and i wouldn't mind looking older than i am but these are all things that make me me, so i don't mind having them.

I hate my stomahc,I need to lose weight there but I like my legs.
Yes, I'm happy. I'm healthy, relatively fit and my body works just fine. I've seen enough people with debilitating illnesses to be thankful for what I've got.

I'm happy with my body but I'm extremely self concious?
I won't go out unless I feel I'm looking good and I've been known to take over an hour to get ready .
I used to not leave the house without eyeliner which my boyfriend's put a stop to [thankfully]
&I get frustrated if I can't get my hair to go right [naturally straight, just sometimes doesn't style how I want it] and I go crazy if a few strands fall out of place and stuff.
I'm not vain, I don't think I'm good looking at all but I wanna look my best?
My boyfriend reckons I have nothing to be self-conscious about but he [i]would say that.
It's got better recently though.

I have the same problem with the over active metabolism. Not tried weight gain powder, just things the doctor recommended, increasing calorie intake (duh) lots of bananas, meat, milk.
At times, I like the slinky 'figure' but then I see people like Stu on TV and I'm like...yeah you could work on not being able to fit in girls clothes anymore.

Yes, I must just have a high metabolism. I did try some of that when I was about 18- didn't really work and it tasted awful! Think I'll just always be thin, so now I just accept it.

Well I'm pretty happy but I worry about my body even when I don't need to. I tend to cover most of my body and not show much skin because I'm very self concious.. but generally I don't think there is anything I'm terribly uncomftable with.

I have some days when I look in the mirror and actually think I look half decent, but most days, no, I don't like what I see :| and no matter how many people say to me "your not ugly" "your really pretty" I always think they're lying, just to be nice, cos I genuinely don't think i'm in the slightest good looking!
I quite like my eyes, cos of them being blue.
I also like my hair&piercings
I hate my nose, and stomach and legs.

I was obese a few years ago and now I achieved to do something very well with my body, there is no secret: you want it ? You get it.
My life changed since and I cannot imagine myself now with my previous body. It was hard but I got what I wanted so there is nothing to change about my body.

I'm especially unhappy with my cheast and arms, my arms are really skinny and my cheast is...well different to anyone elses but it's to personal to go into I would love to have a muscular cheast and arms.
I'm happy with my legs, torso and my hair.

It depends on your body type and by the sounds of it you're ectomorphic (really skinny with a fast metabolism finding it hard to put on weight whether fat or muscle) so if you're after gaining any weight you'll have to have a strict diet with lots of protein and a regular hard workout routine, but don't overdo it. 2-3 times a week is plenty because your body can only cope with so much and at first you will grow quite fast but then after a while you'll slow down to the point you think you've stopped. The more you work out in a short space of time then the faster your body gets used to it and stops growing. So although it sounds bizarre you will actually get bigger by working out less. The problem is if you do that, grow then stop working out you will shrink again.
This page might be of a bit of interest to you if you're trying to get bigger, just found it on Google

Some articles aren't the best though.
I think as long as you have 4 - 6 meals a day mainly small meals like just aprotein drink nad you train you will make good amounts of gains obviously working out and making sure to train stomach.
Even starting though its hard it can be good to shock your body with how often you train and what your doing to get good gains.
and like it says keep doing it you will slowly get bigger after a while. i came to a standstill a little while ago but now im back to gaining,
I didn't read the article, it was just the first thing I found on Google. All that I said was just off the top of my head but the main thing is to remember to not overdo it but at the same time still push yourself. I'm not too sure about the diet/protein side of things though because my body type just happens to be the one where I can gain muscle really easily without doing much so Willz is best listening to someone else, like 30stone, for advice on that front.
But I cant stress this point enough, the key thing is less is sometimes more and if you're just interested in getting bigger and not interested in being a body builder or whatever in this situation less is more. People just seem to think that doing as much exercise as possible will help them grow faster. Well it won't because your body needs time to recover and it can't if you don't give it time.

yeh as i struggle to gain weight lol
but yeh i agree like if you spend more than an hour and a half in the gym your doing to long, but then i feel if your not aching the day after your not pushing yourself.
i spend around and hour and been sick twice and passed out 4 times when ive got home. lol its not good for me but the gains are great because of the effort put in.
and as for the recovery thats exactly what we do, chest mondya arms tuesday.
legs wednesday for resting the upper body.
Shoulders thursday
back and tricep friday
and a bit of running on a saturday sometimes. but most people would do well with 3 days a week and doing back and bicep shoulders and legs etc..

No, I'm not happy. There are SO many things I'd change. I really want to tone up a bit at the moment.
When I was pregnant I wasnt to bothered about putting on weight because its going to happen wether I liked it or not, It annoys me so much when pregnant women are like ''Ohhh I'm getting fat'' Well Durrr you have a human life growing inside of you. God! Sorry lol
After I gave birth to my Daughter my weight dropped off really quick because I didnt have time to eat, cook ect ect plus I was always to tired to eat anyway! Now im smaller then I was before I got pregnant. I was a size 10 before i got pregnant, then went up to a 12-14 when I was heavily pregnant, now im a size 8-10 and Im happier with my body then I have ever been before.
I wouldn't change anything because for the first time ever Im actually happy with the way I look. I'm not saying I'm totally perfect, that's just daft but I'm happy.
Well im happy with my body cause im slim and quite tall, wanna be more toned though. When it comes to my face then uhoh, big forehead, stickyout ears. Not good. My hair hides them both though :)
Nicky.

I am.. I like me.. but the one thing I would change is the fact I can't lose weight, but yet I can gain in no problem!
I really have to watch my weight, like my friends can eat and eat.. and still be reasonably thin.. but yet if I ate and ate.. the pounds would pile on :( x
I suppose its a good thing having to watch your weight when your younger, then when you stop doing p.e and that, you know you still have to watch it x

Still though with the right training you would put on mass amounts of muscle. would be awesome

Fat doesn't turn into muscle though so its irrelevant if you're putting on [fat] weight and training. You'll just lose your fat.
