Its true - hate to say it but every muscly guy i have been with has not had two common sense threads to rub together!

Yeah they look good but all their attention span is focused on exercising and working out.

Don't you think that just a little stereotypical?

There is a lot of smart.. muscly guys.

maybe a bad example but owner of the wwe, is muscly and worked up 2.9billion dollars net worth... he cant be stupid?

and a guy im my gym owns 3, 5 bedroom houses just from working hard and being generally smart?

Jen
31-07-2008, 11:26 PM
Why do i find this so funny LOL

carlcon
31-07-2008, 11:26 PM
I used to work in a gym and have to say mixing both is very rare.

90% of the people i met were cocky meatheads so so far up their own arse.

You CAN mix the 2, but it's not a regular occurance.

*cough*

Well if you're speaking about common sense, I have none whatsoever.

But I'm pretty good at exams & stuff

It is true though, I agree with what he ^^^ said. When I'm in the gym some are pretty thick ...

Haha, I know this is not really what the thread is asking, but oh well.

Oxford University have a very high calibre weightlifting team. Ooh.

But yeah, that doesn't really prove a point.

Just another stereotype really just like blondes are stupid yaddy yadda. Some weight lifters just do it as a pass time, some do it as a lifestyle. Can understand why the stereotype has carried on and why alot of people meet stupid muscly people.

I meant their team (as in, the general team that do all subjects, not just their sports team) is one of the best.

Hmm I have a few muscly mates who are very intelligent.

30stone
31-07-2008, 11:42 PM
Also they it may not take too much intelligence, but being someone like Jay Cutler (google him if you dont know)

is millionaire from weightlifting. Which i thinks pretty cool.

thats not the point if your a millionaire your intellegent because your rich... id say footballers are smart because they done a sport that they know brings in a massive amount of money and with the paycheques they get... you could call them unintellegent but they'd just get in their

lamborghini/ ferrari and drive back to their mansion whilst your there in a focus...

I beg to differ, they are talented not intelligent.

Tom4784

I'd say they definately mix, I'd say I'm reasonably inteligent so if I went to the gym and buffed up I'd be a mix.

Like Fom said it's just a stereotype.

Tom
01-08-2008, 11:30 AM
I don't think money means intelligence. They just follow a career path they want to do, not necessarily for the money- just like the rest of us really.

I mean you could take this away from sport, there are loads of people in TV who have good PR agents that make them money but they're quite thick. Jade Goody springs to mind. She's not exactly Einstein but has made millions.

There are 7 different types of intelligence *smug look on face*

1. Linguistic
Children with this kind of intelligence enjoy writing, reading, telling stories or doing crossword puzzles.
2. Logical-Mathematical
Children with lots of logical intelligence are interested in patterns, categories and relationships. They are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments.
3. Bodily-Kinesthetic
These kids process knowledge through bodily sensations. They are often athletic, dancers or good at crafts such as sewing or woodworking.
4. Spatial
These children think in images and pictures. They may be fascinated with mazes or jigsaw puzzles, or spend free time drawing, building with Leggos or daydreaming.
5. Musical
Musical children are always singing or drumming to themselves. They are usually quite aware of sounds others may miss. These kids are often discriminating listeners.
6. Interpersonal
Children who are leaders among their peers, who are good at communicating and who seem to understand others' feelings and motives possess interpersonal intelligence.
7. Intrapersonal
These children may be shy. They are very aware of their own feelings and are self-motivated.

Thought I'd tell everyone and make everyone feel intelligent. Happy times for us all.

If I started a thread saying: 'pretty blonde girls and intelligence don't mix', I wonder if it'd last as long as this one has?

In fairness the OP did say she didn't mean it to offend anyone ... thats why I've not taken it so seriously and I should be what the OP describes

Lauren

The OP didn't make a statement that SHE believed was true, it was meant as a light debate as far as I can see?

Luke isn't intelligent. He just thinks he is.

To be honest, I think there is definitely a correlation but I don't think its a sweeping statement.

I half agree. If you worded it like "There's loads of jokes going around about how blondes can't be intelligent, what are your views on this?" it'd be a bit like this.

Studies by the British Medical Association have shown that intelligence decreases proportional to increased blondness. Fact.

Sort of true? That's ONE example! :joker:

It'd be like saying- there's a blonde on bb that's smarter than a brunette so that sort proves that blondes are smarter!

Doesn't mean anything.

True, except this thread wasn't worded that way either.

"Muscles and intelligence don't mix.. discuss if you wish" does sound like a statement to me!

If I'd have worded it:

"Blondes and intelligence don't mix.. discuss if you wish" it'd be treated worse!

I could say I didn't mean to offend later on in the thread but needless to say, some blondes would probably still have been offended by that statement.

If we're talking about academic intelligence, we only need to look at Oxford Universities participation (and often winning) in certain sports to see the statement is not exclusive.
