He's said on numerous occasions that he is from Somalia - and therefore that makes him 'black', although I tend to just say African.

The afro kind of gives it away - not to mention that in general he just doesn't look Indian at all. But ignorance is rife, I guess. I agree with David_Purdy that it doesn't really matter.

He was born in Somalia and then moved to Kenya, Yeman, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya and Dubai before moving to the UK with his family.
