The president of games firm Crytek has said he believes the next round of consoles from Sony and Microsoft will launch in three or four years' time.
During his keynote speech at the Leipzig GC Developer Conference, Cevat Yerli said: "The PlayStation 4 and Xbox '720' will arrive in 2011 or 2012, we think.
"This is just our estimate - we don't know, and even if Microsoft and Sony told us, I couldn't say because it would be under NDA."
He added: "But we think in three to four years' time, although there are good reasons why it should be 2010 already... but we'll see."

Got a long time to go yet lol, but I wonder what they will be like XD
I hope the new XBox is earlier than that because it came out earlier than the PS3 anyway.

I wonder which will be the bigger one, and which will be better?
I bet it swaps over again
PS4 - Bigger, more popular
Xbox 3 - Better, but less popular

The 3rd xbox should have blu-ray.

The xbox 360 is eventually gonna get taken over by the Ps3 I think. I think the Wii has pretty much won this time. It'll be interesting to see who comes out on top next time. I'm betting on the Ps4, although the next nintendo console will probably win.
Scarlett.

I dont really count the Wii, its got rubbish graphics and games lol
I think the PS3 is for hardcore gamers, normal gamers will get the 360 (like how most familys had a PS2)

Anybody that is going to buy the 80gb PS3 should wait for few more months because the 160gb PS3 will be out and will only coast £40 more! £40 for extra 80gb is worth waiting for.
I hope the new Nintendo console will be good, I wonder if they'll stick to the motion sensors ?

I'm looking more forward to the Wii 2 which has just got under development
i think the PS4 will be better online and the Xbox 720 will have blu-ray. And both will have some kind of motion sensoring controls. Apart from that i can't see how they could improve.
The Wii 2 will beat them in sales anyway like it has this generation
Scarlett.

Nah, the Wii 2 will just be more of the same, I cant see how they can improve it

Theres loads of ways the Wii 2 can be improved
Better graphics, better online, be able to play DVD's, more media options. The list goes on
but it will be hard to improve alot and still keep the cost down to appeal to the usual non gamers.
Apparently the Wii 2 could be here much sooner than the others maybe late 2009 early 2010.
And there are rumours of a new Sega console to challenge the Wii 2, even though Sega said they weren't going to make another console.

Online is one thing Nintendo need to improve on. The motion sensor system could also be improved alot. There have already revealed better Wii Remote at E3 called the MotionPlus so who knows what they could do in the future.

Thing is, it should have had all them in the first place
The new game consoles can improve loads, there will be new disc drives (an updated Blu ray) and bigger memory better graphics, longer games, possible montion sensoring (There is a new 360 motion sensoring controller under development)
Theres so much more to improve with the gamer game consoles

I have heard the rumours of a new Sega console
I think thats just rubbish though because there is no way Sega would be able to afford bringing out a new console
Sega have just got back to making brilliant games and they should stay to what they do best and not compete because they will just fail

There was whispers about panasonic having plans for a console... It may have been them teaming up with sony in the market.

Plus with the global credit crunch many companies cant afford to invest so much and gain so little... It will take a console with new tech that will blow sony and microsoft away but that takes money investment and time... Sony do that all the time, even the playstation would have been out before 1994.

Yeah, but the credit crunch would be history by the time of 2011

I heard the original Wii was Nintendo's last project. I'd be suprised if we saw another one.
MR.K!

there are too many people who dont even have the PS3 to even talk about a PS4. Personally i think the PS3 is amazing and i love the blu_ray
Scarlett.

Nintendo's last project?
Im sure they'd make another console, perhaps not the same as the Wii, but a new one non the less

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has told GamesIndustry.biz that he believes a higher spec, HD-enabled "Wii 2" could be on the shelves "in a couple of years".
Pachter's comments came in response to those made by SEGA executive Scott Steinberg, who expressed concern about the long term future of Nintendo's console.
"I think that a lot of people consider the Wii a "fad", and attribute that conclusion to the type of people who have been attracted to the Wii so far," Pachter said, observing that many publishers "don't know what to do with" the new demographics of female and older gamers.
"Sega, of course, has games like Sonic that resonate well with this audience, so I'm not singling them out as having an issue, but it appears to me that these non-traditional consumers baffle most of the publishers," he continued.
"As they are unaccustomed to dealing with them this early in the cycle, they have to justify their oversight in not anticipating the strength of the Wii with this group by labelling the group as having no staying power, resulting in the labelling of the Wii as a fad."
With regard to Steinberg's suggestion that developers are reaching the limits of creative possibility when it comes to the Wii's remote control, Pachter said, "I can't begin to imagine what is on the drawing board for the Wii, but I can say that most developers I've spoken with are extemely excited about the potential for the console... I believe that we've only just scratched the surface.
"Also, Scott's analysis presupposes that we have seen the last in hardware innovation from Nintendo," he went on.
"I disagree. It's easy to envision a Wii 2 in a couple of years that runs at full HD, and has both a Wii-mote and an analog controller, so that all games can be ported to it.
"If Nintendo were to introduce such a device, it would be fully comparable to the Xbox 360 - perhaps it wouldn't have Blu-ray, so a comparison to the PS3 may be unfair - and would likely have most of the same third party content as the other two devices."

Nintendo was beaten by sony and microsoft... Sony even put the last nail in sega's coffin even though the dreamcast was ok. Nintendo went back to the drawing board and went into a new market of family friendly games, it had to change tactics or face the same fate as sega! Nintendo have been around a very long time and at first they made playing cards over hundred years ago and always have changed with the times. If nintendo made a wii2 then it would sell like hot cakes.
Sony need to work on there network site (home) looks amazing and should build into a huge 3D online world.. Multi console multiplayer would be better.. PS3 players v PC players v Xbox360 players.

Yes but thats the enthusiast speaking... to me, a casual gamer who plays games once in about 2 weeks I love the wii... its fun and it is just a different thing to do. I get so bored of sitting playing a game on a normal pad. I get such a cool little buzz when I get to swing my remote about and bash people over the head with my remote.
I personally cannot WAIT to see what nintendo comes up with next, although it is a while away... they are not even half way through with their ideas for wii yet! The possibilities are endless and you can do so much more stuff on the wii than any other console.

Its not a fad, it appeals to lots of people and if the Wii 2 continues to do that then its going nowhere.
Most of the peoples Wii's that are gathering dust are probably hardcore gamers who are more suited to the PS3 or Xbox360 and they aren't the target group for the Wii.
Scarlett.

It'd be great if they did something new though, and not just repeated what the Wii did
Nintendo are good at doing things differently
I still love my Wii, they're great for playing light hearted games with the family and they are definetly the most fun. I have a 360 but I'm not a mad gamer so I don't play on it all that much and when I do its mostly sports games. Overall I prefer the Wii

I think they will keep to the Xbox name and have a different subtitle
Did you know it was oiginall going to be called the "DirectXbox" XD
andyman
24-08-2008, 04:19 PM
Directbox? Oh my days! Lol.
They have already used a good name for there black console.. Xbox elite.. Would have been better saving that name for a later date.
*2012 comes the xbox elite* lol.. Too late now.

I feel sorry for anybody that just bought a new 40gb ps3... When the 80gb is out at the same price... And still 2 months from now sony are bringing out a 160gb for £339. Lol best to know what there doing before spending the cash.
A console with built in 3G mobile tech would be good... Play online games anywhere, download games anywhere...

I kinda find it disapointing, quite a few people have a rotten atitude and ruin the experience. Plus you gotta play to play online which I hate. It's one of the reasons I really want a ps3. FREE ONLINE PLAY!!!!!! :cheer2:
