New judge for American Idol Season 8

SIMON Cowell faces more girl power on US talent show American Idol with the introduction of a new female judge.

Songwriter Kara DioGuardi will make a line-up of four with Simon, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul in the eighth series in January.

Kara, 37, has written lyrics recorded by stars including Christina Aguilera and Kylie Minogue.

TV network Fox, which airs the show before it is screened here on ITV2, said: “Paula has been the only girl judge for years but now she has some back-up.”
