I'm currently watching the final set of Gasquet vs Haas.I think Gasquet's a really talented player but just doesn't seem to have the mentality to win a major. He should have finished Haas off by now but just let that 4th set slip away.

FANTASTIC back hand! I agree, he has never really had the mentality to finish off big big matches, look at the Murray match at wimbledon.. he completely let go of the match near the end. I wouldn't mind Haas causing the latest upset  he's had decent results this year

Aye, he just seems to fall apart under the pressure.I cannot remember which tournament it was but he started to fall behind and just quit, said he wasn't feeling well but I cannot say I fully believed that.

Haas is closing in on the win now, just broke Gasquet's serve.

Locke.

Marc

Pretty straight forward results on day 2, most seeds through only exceptions; Gasquet, Kiefer, Berdych (very annoyed about this) for men and Razzano and Hantuchova for the women

Absolutely ****ED off, cannot believe people paid to go see that abysmal performance from Ivanovic. She is definately not worthy of no.1 position in the world and she will definately lose it after the US Open - and deservedly so! Ridiculous!

Good to see Murray through despite a bit of a sloppy performance.

Just done watching Monfils vs Korolev, pretty entertaining match.I've not seen too much of Monfils in the past but he seems a pretty fun guy to watch.

Well we're at the stage now where seeds meet seeds, we've had a few causalities in the women's side and men's
Davenport [23], Azarenka [14] and most shockingly Kuznetsova [3] and for the men;
Safin and Haas, both in great form at the moment.

Today's order of play looks very good
Both Williamses, Nadal and Murray. I am excited :cheer2:

She should get to 1000 then call it a day.She came back into in the 2nd set against Bartoli but she was totally outplayed in the first. At her age and after all the injuries I just don't see her getting back to a level where she's going to be competing well against the top players.

Well when I watched the highlights I found it really funny to see what similar games they both play, angels, depth, flat, powerful and lack of moment it was like watching Davenport play a younger, slightly different version of herself

Good first set tennis in Murray/Melzer match... shame Murray lost it 7-6

Dan_
30-08-2008, 10:37 PM
Murray through after a real struggle, lost the first two sets and had to win a tie-break to stay in it.

Marc
30-08-2008, 10:50 PM
hahaha typical murray! put us through the mill - emotions everywhere! Jurgen got cramp in the start of the 4th set - very good for British supporters!
I'm just thankful that Wawrinka had a 4hr match, will mean that both him and Andy would have had long tiring matches! Bring on monday!

Previous h2h: 3 - 3
Last match : Murray def. Wawrinka : 6-2 0-6 6-4.

(NB: Out of the 4 matches played against each other in 2008, Murray has won 3 of them)

BigSister
31-08-2008, 04:51 PM

Marc

David Ferrer is out! woohoo! he was the strongest contender in Murray's quarter.. should be good! Hope Murray can beat Wawrinka

Marc
02-09-2008, 10:20 AM
Murray wins 6-1 6-3 6-3
Excellent result!

But up next is VERY in form Juan Del Potro who comes into this US Open after winning the 4 consecutive tournaments! Beating the likes of Haas, Roddick, Fish, Melzer and Gasquet on his way to those 4 titles. Any tennis fan will know that they are a very diverse bunch of men! When I first looked at the draw I thought that Del Potro will go very far - possible semi-finalist. But lets hope Murray can prevent that!

BigSister
02-09-2008, 11:45 AM
ooh yay murray won
hes equalled his record hasnt he as he got wimbledon quarters this year(grand slam anyway)

Murray through to the semi-final! 7-6,7-6,4-6 7-5.That game felt it was never going to end, obviously a hugely close game and Del Potro seemed to gain confidence as the match went on and I really thought it was going to go the full five sets.Great job by Murray.

Marc
04-09-2008, 12:46 AM
First grand slam semi for Murray.
I am so relieved that match was over.. throughout the whole match it seemed that Murray was definately the better player, during the first 3 sets I wasn't worried or anything. But then he lost the 3rd and throughout the 4th it was anyone's game! But finally Murray won (most of which was down to the fact that Del Potro looked like he was dying lol)
Nadal or Fish next! ... likely to be Nadal

BigSister
04-09-2008, 12:51 AM
Yay first semi for Murray ^_^
Bound to be Nadal though and he will probably lose but you never do know

Marc
04-09-2008, 01:29 PM
Nadal! haha yaaay  should be fun, just hope Andy rests from that marathon match.

In other news; Serena wins all Williames quarter final (THANK GOD IT WONT BE AN ALL WILLIAMS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL!!)

yeah, so he's used to finals
I dunno actually, the bottom half is very open, federer, roddick, djokovic and surprise qualifier muller! though I'd go for... Djokovic/Federer final, if there is to be a shock win in the bottom half it'll be Andy Roddick prevailing

Dan_
04-09-2008, 03:50 PM
I'm finding hard to choose out of Federer,Roddick and Djokovic.I know Muller's having a great tournament and even with Federer's downturn in form of late, I just cannot see him beating Fed.

I'm looking forward to Roddick vs Djokovic though, should be a highly competitive game.It would be good to see Roddick advance in home tournament and kinda put himself back in there right at the top level.

Dan_
04-09-2008, 07:59 PM
Murray and Huber lose in straight sets in the mixed doubles final.

BigSister
04-09-2008, 09:11 PM

I would like Roddick to get to the final though

Dan_
04-09-2008, 10:36 PM
Federer through to the semi-finals after a straight sets victory over Muller, certainly didn't sound straightforward though.

Marc
05-09-2008, 04:50 PM
Woop Woop!! Djokovic won!
I hate the US crowd! so loud and so rude! So glad that they have been silenced! and hopefully Dinara will be able to beat Serena tonight :thumbs2:

Shame about Murray/Huber but they are going up the rankings! Very good result for them both, Semi at Wimbledon and now Final here. :hello:

Dan_
05-09-2008, 04:54 PM
So the soon to be top 4 ranked guys are through to the semi-finals, that doesn't happen too often at the majors.

BigSister
05-09-2008, 05:21 PM
yay i know Djokovic won as well i quite like him
lol its either gonna be a federer. nadal final or a murray dijokovic final i mean it could be a federer murray or a nadal dijokovic final though
When are the semi finals tonight?

Dan_
05-09-2008, 05:28 PM

Dan_
06-09-2008, 06:13 PM
Murray wins the first set 6-2.He's been absolutely brilliant so far, really taking the game to Nadal and returning the serves aggressively. It seems to have thrown Nadal off his game.

6-2 7-5 6-2 loss for Murray, but I'm not disappointed.. he's done so well to get to the final this year and this is just a taster of what is to come, he's clearly waiting for Wimbledon '09  I think he got a little tired and overwhelmed by Federer's display - which I must add is the best performance I have seen from him in a very long time! Well done Federer, 5th consecutive US Open title, very well deserved.

Well Done Murray also for doing so well :dance2: - New world No.4
