View Full Version : Does BB need a rest?

I hate to say this, but I will.
This year we have had a great series, fresh twists, fresh housemates and a fresher format. However, the ratings are much lower, despite it being a good allround series.
IMO this series has gone on to long, and I have lost interest in places. Therefore, I think we should have no BB next year, or instead just a smaller allstars addition. And then we can have a BB in 2010/11, and it will be "ITS BACK" not 'Another one...?".
Sorry if this doesnt make sense
Yeah I wouldn't mind a break, they probably need it in all fairness

If the producers decide to make a rest for one year then it will be a disaster, people will completely forget about the show because new shows would have been on. Even today's fans won't be there to watch it.
The 'rest' idea is not the solution to ratings. A complete change of format: yes !
Look at French BB: Series 1 was a huge success, series 2 in 2002 was a flop. It comes back 5 years later with a MASSIVE change and the ratings breaks records.
That should be the case for BB, a new format.

Remy IMO that condradicts itself.
You said if we had a rest people would forget about it, then how come after 5 years the french BB was such a sucess.
Shows like Gladiators came back well after rest breaks. People remember shows from decades ago clearly.

Nope i didn't contradict myself because if French BB was back with the same format, it would have never worked (the producers even said it) then if the current format was adopted in 2003, it would have kicked some ass !
I know Gladiators is really popular but it was a success before it took a break (from what I read) so it's not the same case as BB.Taking a rest will kill the show for good.
I think the more the producers have pressure on their shoulders, the less efforts they make (BB8 for exemple). So can you imagine the huge pressure they will have in 2010 ?

I disagree.
It could come back in ten years and could still be a hit, provided we arent over killed with Reality TV like we were home makeover shows.
If it came back in a few years with a diffrent format I think it would be more 'WOW' than if it came back with a diffrent format next year.
Although I would miss it.

In 10 years ? Reality TV will not last forever, people are getting bored with it (depends on the show).
It's their job to make it 'WOW' with a new format, not ours. The lack of publicity for BB8 and BB9 shows that people don't even know when it's on or what is new on it.

Really ?
Where are the billboard, big magazine deals and all this stuff who made this show a huge event like from BB1 to BB6.
I do agree we had more adverts than last year but still.

We had some stuff in Heat, and forgot the other one.
And we had Billboards for BB7.

Yeah sorry for BB7, typo mistake, I do remember them.
I hope you get my point, like, it's not an event anymore in the nation. The show will never attract 10 millions or 7 millions anymore.

Yes ratings are slipping but it won't stop or rest until something equally huge is created to fill the gap, and that won't happen for a long, long time. The novelty has worn off but this has been a good year (I never got into the last two) so hopefully it signals an upturn in fortunes.

I agree. The producers made great efforts for BB9 so it's encouraging for the future.
I still think they should have done better because as BB:CH was an experiment, they should have taken some ideas from it: Purple Ninja or the song when a housemate is evicted.
